You Need an Accountability Partner - Why the RIGHT People Will Help You Accomplish Your Dreams
With each new year, we like to make promises to ourselves that this next year will be better than the previous.
Unfortunately, the New Year comes and suddenly our optimism goes away and it seems so hard to get out of bed and do what we said we would.
Have you been there? Feeling unmotivated, undisciplined, unengaged, constantly dreaming about what could be, but never putting in the time to make it happen? You feel burnt out. Then you feel frustrated for feeling burnt out because you haven't accomplished what you wanted. You know you can work harder, but you're tired.
I've been there, am there, and will be there. Those feelings don't go away, but having a friend in your party who will push you along and encourage you is a sure fire way to overcome those feelings and accomplish what you set your mind to do.
If I want to see my dreams comes true, whether personal or professional, I need allies who will help me along the way. I need an accountability partner.
Party up! Find others who will help you along the creative journey. Because together, you can turn your escape plan into reality.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility - Finding Purpose in your Gifts, Talents, and Skills
Переглядів 944 роки тому
We're all super heroes. Our powers come from our gifts, talents, and skills we develop. We can do things others can't. We can see life from a lens others can't see through. Yet despite our super powers, we see our gifts go to waste, either unused completely, or used in a way that brings us no joy or fulfillment. If we have super powers, why do we waste them? When Peter Parker first received his...

You have a dream. Maybe it's to become a comic book artist. Maybe you want to develop tabletop games. Maybe you want to start a UA-cam channel or stream. Whatever it is, it's big, and probably very scary. You probably question your worth, if you're good enough, if you have the knowledge to be successful. That's the question, are you good enough? The short answer: No, you aren't. The long answer...
Cuphead | Be True to Yourself and the Audience Will Find You

There's a common trope we see in shows. Generally a new kid at school is trying to make friends. To them, they look for the perceived "cool" kids and try to be their friends. In order to do this however, they have to become something they're not. This eventually leads to some discord and the eventual realization that they have to be themselves to find friends. The moment they embrace who they a...

There is nothing new under the sun. Look at any art form. Everything is a derivative of something else. And yet, our world is still filled with original and unique work. How? In Austin Kleon's book, Steal Like an Artist, he talks about the concept Genealogy of Ideas - it's the idea that our work is the product of our inspirations. Meaning, any creator you look up to has their own inspirations, ...
Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy - Why Following your Dreams is so Hard

Life's hard. There. I said it. Sometimes the thing we want the most means going against convention, taking on risk, and sacrificing security. It's not the norm, which means it's not a straight shot to our destination. Perhaps you want to start a business or become a content creator. You know it's possible, look at all the people who are doing it. But all the guides, tutorials, how-to's, and bes...

When on the creative journey, many find themselves stuck at the starting line trying to figure out who or what they are before they even begin. One of the great existential questions we ask ourselves is, “Who am I?” While searching for my own answers, I stumbled on “Steal Like an Artist” by Austin Kleon, a fantastic and succinct approach toward accepting that it is okay to emulate others and th...
Walking with Monsters | The Shadow of Doubt

We're all familiar with monsters. As children, we fear them. But as we grow older, we recognize the power in those monsters comes from our own belief in them. We learn to explain them away, and like magic. Poof! They're gone. Yet, what we come to find is those monsters take a new form as fear, self-doubt, anxiety, depression, and so on. And they take deep roots in our lives. These monsters are ...
The Escape Plan | Why you should run towards your dreams, not from your reality

Like any good heist movie, in order to successfully escape from the confines of jail, you need a good escape plan. Without one, you are doomed to end up right back where you started. Or imagine a horror film. The victims often zig-zags about, trying desperately to escape from a big bad. They're doing everything they can to run from the big bad. Ironically, despite their efforts, they get caught...

Anyone that has known me for more than a minute knows I am never lacking for words to say. In truth, I often struggle to fit all the words I want to say into any one particular sentence. Yet when it comes to talking about something so painful and personal, each time I try to speak up, put words into action, I get lost. Lost in the fear of people knowing that I am a fraud, not as strong as some ...

We've all wanted to have the keys to the castle. Wanted to be able to play with someone else's toys. We've all imagined what it would be like if we could tell our own story through IPs like Batman or Star Wars. Telltale had the keys to the castle. They were afforded the opportunity to play with notable IPs like Batman, GoT, the Walking Dead, and more. Through it, they were able to build a brand...

Endurance is having the resolve to overcome hardships and persevering through difficulties to reach a goal. Sustainability is the ability to endure for a lifetime. Yet endurance without sustainability ultimately leads to one outcome - burnout. As we explore Telltale's journey, we see how the lack of sustainable practices led to divisiveness between upper management and the team. This type of re...

Our creative pursuits are like training for a marathon. You don't run a marathon every day. You take time to stretch, run, eat right, and just as importantly, rest. Telltale Studios sprinted. After their success with the Walking Dead, the studio exploded in size as they took on multiple projects at once. Driven clearly by their desire to succeed, they forgot the importance of slowing down, refl...

Can you become trapped by success? In Ed Catmull's Creativity Inc., he talks about The Beast, a creature with an insatiable hunger for more and more success. This Beast, which drives us towards success, is the same creature that stifles innovation, creativity, and progress. Unless you reign in the Beast and allow new ideas to foster and grow, it will consume you. Telltale Games is a cautionary ...

I am definitely guilty of never feeling there is enough time. I let that stress chain me down almost every day.

When I saw TellTale was going to be gone I remember being so heart broken! All I could think is how does a group that makes such amazing stories disappear! I just didnt understand! I even went as far as questioning myself and how much support did I show.

I still remember reading the article the day TellTale closed their doors. I cycled through all the great memories of some of their works of art! Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, Tells from The Borderlands, and more! The lose of TellTale was a heavy one for the gaming industry. I can remember about a month or so before they shut down, Telltale announcing Wolf Among Us 2. You could see how excited the creators were! Loved Telltale and their wonder stories.

Animation is so dope! I'm so very glad to see you guys stuck with it due to all the twist and turns "the literal bee path of the creative journey" and kept striving. Great message from two great people of exceptional character. I would like to see your characters animations facing down these things we face as creatives. I'm sure you've already thought of this and I know what an in-depth time consuming monster it can be but just a thought from the peanut gallery as to more cool visuals to feast my eyeballs upon. It would be really cool to add that much more value to an already positive and thought provoking (as to being a student because none of us are always right) video. Keep it up guys.

Thank you good sir! We certainly look to continue the journey both physically and over time within animation and other realms of art.
