[SCHOOL PROJECT] What Is Breakcore?
It's like if that kid from Whiplash and a psychopath had a baby

If any information in this video seems to be incorrect, I'm sorry, but I did my research, and there's no changing the video now. :)
I (USED TO) HAVE NO IDEA WHO MADE THE INTRO SONG TO THE FAKECORE SEGMENT! I just had some random mp3 file on my laptop named flushcore3933029030, I honest to god have no idea where it came from. If you made the song, PLEASE TELL ME SO I CAN CREDIT YOU! (UPDATE: THE TRACK WAS MADE BY @SVYVKVSVZVKI !)
0:00 - Intro
0:38 - The History
3:31 - What Is It Though
6:53 - Fakecore?
8:32 - Breakcore + Neurodiversity
12:41 - Subgenres
19:25 - Bye
I do wish that I had more time to touch on the subject of the artistic value and symbolism in breakcore, but since it wasn’t the focus of the video, and I had a tight time limit, I prioritized purely the history and explanation of the genre.

XTRA FUN FACT: Venetian Snares just called his music "Extra Cool Jungle" in his early days of producing, as there was no actual name for Breakcore yet!

Custom ULTRAKILL Levels are INSANE
you spelled blksmiith wrong😭
Boss boko there design is just so interesting and they are very challenging
noo you forgot the OG breakcore scene prior to the post-2000s internet p2p breakcore scene, which developed alongside jungle and later DnB from breakbeat hardcore!! it's so over for you bro!
its so over 🥲
Imagine if no one heard that break and thought « Lemme chop that up » imagine all the music that wouldn’t exist
I love seeing School Projects go viral
Silksong playing celeste?
hi twig
hi milk
Try to blj with it💀
pro dx‘ed autistic person here. (possibly ADHD too) breakcore goes hand in hand with my neurodivergence
This is so good for a school project because you actually get it! So many people have no idea what breakcore really is, this is a great video my man
i love you <3
you need to do one on femtynal
U know what, its been a while since I find new breakcore artists that I like, I've been years stuck to Bye2, Rory in the early 20's (which funny enough, I always thought was an arbitrary year selection), Machine girl, Goreshit, Venetian snares and the usual [2 released songs from just a couple weeks ago] artists like Zzkillme, iera, Crxw (the one I'd reccomend the most out of the little ones for its similarity to Rory's music which is the one I'd recommend the most in general)... Sure enough, breakcore is not the only thing that I like to listen to, but it's also definitely the one that motivates me the most to do stuff apart from rotting in front of my pc, and I think I've listened so much to the same artists over and over again that I got to a point in which I don't get this feeling out of it anymore. Maybe all the problem is that I just usually wait for songs to come at me instead of searching for them, but maybe if I do it it's because it works, like when this video appeared in my for u :). But I digress, the point is, cool video essay man, I loved pretty much all the music u used to make it and Ima go and check the artists u recommended rn, also, I'd like to recommend some non-breakcore music that I think u'd like: Iyowa, some of DennokoP, some of Muship, Femtanyl, Awerewa, Metaroom and some of CheapeX, being this one the one i recommend the least.
0:12, my personal favorite way to describe is, although very simple: Metal on a blender
😂 This is pretty funny
i feel like folks always forget abt schizophrenia when it comes to discussions of neurodivergence
Does someone know the name of the outro song?
Riajuu - Magical Girl Puke-tan! ua-cam.com/video/oEw0iq2__KQ/v-deo.html
@@twigplaysstuffThank you!
good video
oh hi temma, your music is awesome :)
please tutorial for model you use in videos! Please!!!
Sure! It may take me a while tho since I'm doing a lot right now lol
@@twigplaysstuff I WILL SO THANKFULL FOR THAT
my older brother makes breakcore music and i never really understood until this video, thanks :3
What is the intro song?
Jungle Tools - Reizoko CJ! ua-cam.com/video/Tos2X-sJabQ/v-deo.html
good vid except you didn't credit the outro song (Magical Girl Puke-tan by Riajuu for anyone wondering) which might be my favourite breakcore tune ever
No idea but I’m starting to make it with no idea of what I’m doing :/
Ultrakill brainroted me so hard that i can't hear a fast drum break or beat or simply an amen break with not imagining a derranged blue robot tossing coins rapidly
I wouldn't spent so much time working on a school project and make it so long unless I would really want to
Yo, I even have Rossz Csillag Alatt Született on CD, it wasn't exactly cheap
if this was a school project, WHERE ARE THE CITED SOURCES??????
Woah, this is one of the best youtube documentaries I saw, the amount of information you put in such a short time is shocking, another shocking thing is that I just found out that what I have been listening to, and what I produced was wrongly labeled as breakcore, and after watching this video there I have a dilema going on inside my head, what should this new genre be called?"Fakecore" just sounds unpleasant, and ambient jungle is misleading, I saw a comment suggesting a name atmospheric dnb/breakcore, and its honestly the best option. Thank you for such great video, and I hope you got the highest score out of your class.
I love the audio Visualizers as the visuals. (I can word correctly, yes)
Brother... Hands down _the best_ video essay about the genre. You basically boiled down to a 20min vid a plethora of topics and discussions about the genre, its origin and subgenres without leaning too much on technicality or the stuff said on Wikipedia, it was an honest surprise to actually listen to somebody talking about something they ACTUALLY LISTEN TO and every. Single. Example. Was on fucking point. Heck you even put riaijuu on the mix, i thought we were like...? 20 in the whole world? Who listens to them. Now about the examples, i actually began listening to breakcore via Reizoko Cj and Venetian Snares too, my first ever breakcore song was a recommendation from 20...13? 2012? ( I cant remember) And it was ULTRAVIOLENT JUNGLIST by yours truly Venetian Snares, the first time i heard it i was like "what the? Its like the music i like in midnight club 3( it was Soundwall VIP by Dom & Roland) but its really aggressive and... Absurdly well made" and it was love at first sight. Then a little after cirnoRHTL got recommended and i just became a hardcore fan of the genre, cirnoRHTL is just perfect. My main artists are: Reizoko Cj (yup, still), Venetian snares (original, i know), NEKOPHILIAC (I... Like lolicore too), LHK, pencil, HAWAWA(cmon, bananafishEP was my first ever album downloaded, i still love it) and at last nyojikko. I dont have a favorite between them, as everyone is a master on what they do (or did... Plase come back nyojikko) Man... Just thanks for actually showing people what breakcore essentially is, and although the damage is pretty visible already, i guess its just hype that's going to die down just like the techno that was actually EDM that actually didn't exist shit (i still cant believe people actually said that Marshmellow was techno, fuck no, techno is fanon flowers, WAX. , 999999999, etc.)
Yooo lolicore mentioned.
based minimeters user
ohhhh so that's why i fall asleep while listening to ultrakill
love this vid
I'm so excited to see someone put this all to something that's comprehensive. I try explaining all this to people at get looked at funny. breakcore is like another language to communicate in, Laura Les said it best in I wud nvrstop u, "u got me feeling like- into a hardcut to breakbeat." breakcore organizes all that chaos into songs about a specific group of feelings to experience in a curated enviroment, and makes an artpiece out of it that you can show to your friends.
1:11 in this Vidi-
not gonna lie i enjoy "fakecore" more because it's way easier to listen to than traditional breakcore. plus the core of the music is still made up of breaks, so technically it's break-core ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Although it lacks chaos
breakcore is autism music
if the song lacks a core that is broken then it's not breakcore
femtanyl not mentioned i am big sad
Amenpunk? I didn't know that song atsuo made on works spawned a whole microgenre lol
Yeah, it's not a really large subgenre (yet) but it definitely is it's own thing
I'd say Alec empire broadly invented breakcore in '93 / '94. Venetian Snares popularized a drill & bass / IDM influenced subgenre which came to redefine the genre as a whole when he got super popular.
At the end of the day... You end up saying "oh that's not breakcore! That's a new style of 90's jazzy drum and bass mixed with liquid drum and bass production!" Just like how some 90s r4ver nerd would get mad at you for calling vsnares breakcore when he's "clearly a drill and bass producer who incorporates hardcore rave influences into his music"
Oops I'm not saying you said that btw Im making a hypothetical.
11:32 noit isn't
little rough around the edges video essay, but still pretty good
Can’t wait for brokencore
once i learn drums i'm going to learn the amen break and play it outside your window at night ❤️ also with the autism stuff you mentioned that makes a lotta sense, i haven't been able to put it into words but it totally sounds like how stimming feels for me, and it's definitely like perfect to stim to :]
Probably weren't expecting a school project to blow up on YT, but the video essay lovers have arrived! My only critique is your voice editing. You didn't remove any of the breathing sounds and certain syllables randomly peak the mic as you try to enunciate clearly. FL studio has an automatic remover if you need a uh, paid for legal copy. Cough cough.
Oh, it does? I'll be sure to use that (with my very legal and paid for copy of FL) in the future, I had no idea!
Hey, how did you animate those little dudes? I remember a specific tool/website doing something similar, but if you did it on your own, then wow! It looks really really cool
I used shake art, here ya go! studionokoi.itch.io/shake-art-deluxe
@@twigplaysstuff Thank you!!
shoebill mention? You're cultured. Try listening to sorry about my face, please be quiet, axtrmnt, and chinesemidiboard, they are all some great artists worth checking out in the scene. edit: small correction on "fakecore": This actually blew up in 2019 and 2020, with sewerslvt leading the charge pretty much single-handedly, and other artists coming out of the woodwork to assist in pushing the style (sofțxoxo's, zenithlights, watering, salad, loli in early 20s (now rory in early 20s) and namii (now kyoumeni), are my personal picks, but the general soundcloud breakbeat artist community at large was responsible) edit 2: You're missing a subtype (I know you said as much, just felt like filling in my knowledge, I hope this doesn't come off as dickish, if so, my bad): Depressive breakcore. The artists I said in my reccomendation list are all that (minus chinesemidiboard). It's characterized by harsher breaks, comparable to type b, but low or hidden sample amount. And lower frequencies ("sorry about my face -... and thoughts of suicide" and "please be quiet - cherophobia" are both good examples).
the breaks are like your mind cycling through as many thoughts as it can, and it’s kind of relaxing
I’ve never thought of it that way 😮
fantastic video, about the adhd part i would also say as autistic that for me its like calming cause the impossibility to find a hook to remember something else, makes me stop from thinking about something that isn't relevant in that moment
