ACE 8F Battery DCC sound at NSME

Despite having lived in Northamptonshire for 4 years, not forgetting over 4 decades in neighbouring Bucks! I’ve only recently discovered the Northampton Society of Model Engineers. I was invited by a fellow Gauge O Guild member to come and have a look and maybe run a dead-rail train. There is an extensive live steam 3.5, 5 and 7.25” run but also a garden railway for the ‘tiny’ 32 and 45mm gauge...

Recorded another video with better sound…that is, with the sound turned up! 😜 The loco is powered by 3 Lithium batteries and a Pololu booster and is charged via USB. I have been trying various receivers in the tender, its currently using a Fosworks device Full conversion details available at tinyurl.com/batterytrains

Notice the front pony wheels appear still on the spiral - that's an effect of the frame rate....no it's not, they're rubbing on the steps! I thought I’d get away with it on these 5’8” curves but not quite….minor adjustment needed there. I must admit sitting in the middle of the spiral and watching the train go round me is a nostalgic reminder of sitting cross legged inside an oval of 00 track m...

Notes from Filverstone No.5 - Hornby HM7000 in the Battery-Powered Dapol 7mm 08
Переглядів 6229 місяців тому
When I tried the HM7000 in the battery powered O gauge 08 I was disappointed to find it incredibly unreliable, continually disconnecting and working only 10% of the time...turned out to be user error! 🙄 Just goes to show if all else fails - RTFM! This video is just about what I did to make the HM7000 work, see my other videos for the actual conversion of the loco: Part one is here: ua-cam.com/v...

This kit is almost ready...here's an overview of what fits where and what's involved in getting everything inside the loco. The kit will consist of 2x protected Li-ion cells, PCB which includes a booster to lift the Lithium to 12v, and a daughter board with charge port and power switch to go under the loco’s dome. Double iPhone speaker. Firebox mount with flickering orange LED. Add a decoder an...

Addendum to the last video regarding the Dapol 08 battery conversion board/kit. It is also available for the early version shunter, the edition that came with directional marker light at the centre-top of each end, it has 6 lights in total. This board also has 3-pin sockets for the shunting lights (rather than 5-pin) and an 8 pin decoder option. When using 8-pin, it can be configured with a jum...

Pleased to welcome my friend Arry for a flying visit to Filverstone. He tested a newly-converted F unit set, which has power in the B unit (Tam Valley battery-powered DCC) and one driven-motor in each A unit. During our ahem, somewhat extended lunch break, we also fixed stuff with a bit soldering and a razor saw!

East Lancashire Railway Summer Diesel Gala 2021
oh wow. My brother and I started to consider doing this if we aquired one. Very nice to know theres people out there who have done this and share it willingly.
Fave version ever made ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉
A stunning garden 0 guage layout and with a wonderful Ellis Clark Black 5 locomotive and tender with a lovely rare of coaches. The locomotive is so realistic and fits the garden layout well. 😊
WOW its evens slower than the newer shunter or looks like it. 😃😃
WOW 44 seconds with Stay alive that was incredible, I'm also I'm also impressed with the Lima 08 shunter, lovely motion and speed control, thanks for sharing
Great work Fil, is coming on well.
Great run there Fil. Your garden railway is certainly getting bigger by the month mate. Good on Brian for suppling 'proper' liveried loco's 😁.
Garden really coming on Fil 😊
Well done! 👍👍
Very nice Philip👍✌️😊💜 Has your line been extended, there looks to be more of it🤔🤔
Yes gradually progressing around the garden...about halfway now I reckon.
@@fildowns Excellent stuff!
good stuff
Do you like the loco overall? Looks excellent
Yep it's a lovely model. I'm no rivet counter but the difference with the scale wheels and running gear lifts it above the coarser models I usually run. I could do with a wee bit more traction but not at the cost of a sprung chassis I guess so all-in-all I'm very happy. I will probably get some front steps on and mount them slightly further forward/outward as a compromise.
Nice!
Very different from my day ..... and for the better! Well done!
Great video. Lovely garden layout and amazing performance from the battery powered (gorgeous!) loco! Thanks for sharing! Ross @EastCoastDCC
Cracking video mate and a great piece of work too converting to battery power.
Brilliant video. 👌
Excellent video Fil ❤
Very nice. Is the Black 5 RC/dead rail? Wish I could stretch to one🙏🤞🤔
Yep like it says 'Battery Powered'. None of my track is powered bar a short test track inside the garage.
It's rather nice but c'mon where's the crew, Ex railwayman.
Looks like a good time was had by all 👍😊✌️
Wonderful Phil - It works a treat - Thank You. The HM/DCC App needs some work to be Perfect! 😃👍
Very impressive
Philip so realistic thanks Michael
Superb !!!
Glorious Phillip, thanks for sharing, looks like a lovely time was had by all. Sorry about the derailment 💜💜🤞
Hi Fil, are these HM7000 chips suitable for any O gauge loco or just the low amps small stuff?
They only do 1A Phill so little stuff. Maybe Bo-Bo with one motor and a light load.
Hi great video. Do you need to change CV12 to dc or this automatically recognised ?
Version 7! Pfft! Now on v9 🙄 😂
Just wandering how you get lights fitted to it, i have one without any lights and would like to know
Did you see at 0:50 ? This one uses my own fibre optics for tail lights from LEDs in the centre as well as standard LEDs mounted in the nose. There are some kits available though which are easier to install. Have a google search.
@@fildowns what would the light mounts be called so i can narrow it down
@@1964catt this search produces the usual providers: www.google.com/search?q=lima+00+lighting+kits
@@fildowns oh thanks
Hi Philip, Is this all dead rail? Impressive running - love the spiral idea - that's neat engineering 👍✌️😊💜 What system are you using now, I can't keep up✌️👍💜😊😀😀
Hi Yes I haven't had powered 0 track for 20 years now! This is my 4th (and final!) garden layout...I'm only about a third of the way round so far... This Western had a Fosworks receiver at the time...it now has a Pro Mini Air (was Tam Valley) as I'm using Fosworks in all my metal steam locos as they have the best range by far (can bury them in metal tenders in amongst the cells and still work fine) and also I generally want a lot more functions from diesels so use an Rx that allows control from more conventional DCC controllers. Thanks, as ever, for your interest!
This is completely brilliant - genius! Exactly what I've been looking for. Adore that slow running capability - totally outstanding. Bluetooth control from my phone or tablet with battery power enabling locos to crawl across complex, dirty pointwork is the promise of HM7000 fulfilled. We can now paint our rails all over in a rust colour and let the wheels wear that off where they will. Hopefully the penny will drop with Hornby to provide battery options for OO and even TT, and all the scales can move to "dead rail" and freedom from the tedium and frustrations of layout wiring. Do you sell this as a kit? Got a Dapol 08 waiting for just such a conversion.
@@fildowns thank you, Philip. I'll check to see whether I have a late or early Dapol 08, (per your web form) and get an order placed with you.
Fantastic Fil. My conversion (helped by you of course) already has the 12 AAA batteries in so is already at 14.4V so can I assume this should work straight away mate?
Yep should go straight in there pal 👍🏼
More ingenuity Philip 👍✌️😊💜
Lindíssima música 🎶 🎶 🎶 🎶 🇧🇷🤝
Great video Phil, very helpful, more like this please!
Brilliant Fil!
Nice neat installation Fil✌️👍💜😊 A few questions: What make of soldering iron are you using, it seems to have a very fine tip compared to my assortment of ancient irons🤔 Also may I ask what brand of Li-Ion batteries you're using please (are they guaranteed to not burn down multistorey carparks and/or shipping)?🤔 I take it that your controller there is the US made TVD type? Thanks in advance - looking forward to seeing more about WiFi options 👍💜
Thanks for your feedback! It's a pretty budget soldering iron but it did come with a selection of tips. Here it is from the rain forest: amzn.eu/d/5JHcF96 The Li-Ions are unbranded ones but through a process of experimentation I have found a source of reasonably consistent quality examples. All are capacity tested and come out around 1700-1800 mAh. You could use 2 square packs of 4x AAA however the runtime would be reduced by at least 40% plus once the batteries are worn (maybe only about 30 charges) you would find the loco unable to provide torque for real work owing to them simply not being able to output sufficient milliamps once they were less than fully charged. Tiny shunting layout with a handful of wagons no problem but ours are often on pilot duty and required to shuffle rakes of 7-10 coaches. The transmitter is my own Roco mouse system converted to battery power. It runs off 1 Li-Ion cell and is charged via USB, contact me on my email to learn more.
@@fildowns Thank you Fil. I'll look at the soldering iron (Rain Forest👍😀😀😀). Clever ref your controller, also interesting info about the batteries, that's a big difference in output and usefulness, surprising really. I'm just getting my head around the concepts and kit👍✌️💜😊
Is that powercar a kit?
Very nice Phillip. Can you tell me you're idea behind the glass section please 🤔✌️👍🤞💜 It all runs very well and nice and quietly too👍✌️💜
The perspex bridge is a temporary structure...that has been in place for nearly three years....there will be a box girder affair there eventually...😬
You lucky boy! I'd be happy with a couple of power cars running light engine🤔🤞🤞👍👍✌️💜
Not my model and I think for me at least the novelty would wear off pretty quick like it was after first seeing the real ones...never been a fan, at the time just thought of them as over-blown DMUs robbing us of proper loco workings! 😅
Lovely Phil. But it's crying out for lights and sound at the other end...
Ah well that's up to the owner...but to be honest it's been such a battle I hope it's at least a year away!
Wow I’d love one of them😊
Great explanation of how it all works, look forward to seeing your next video. See you Saturday!
Brilliant. Looking forward to when you’ve got them all sorted…….then pulling apart a brand new Dapol 08 🤣
I admire your dedication Phil✌️👍😊💜
Version 7.....then there was all the X.x minor corrections in between...I only changed the primary version number when I added or completely changed a feature...there's been at least 20 versions made! Even this one...did you see the small bit of wire soldered underneath? That's due to a mistake...I've already taken delivery of v7.1 !! 🤣😂
@@fildowns That's truly dedication 👍✌️💜🥴😀😀
Very interesting. I have 0 gauge clockwork locos needing this DCC system. Could youhelp me? Paul. South Liverpool
Hi Paul, please see the first link in the video description above to contact me. The Tam Valley DCC system is no longer sold but has been replaced by something better and lower cost.
@@fildowns Very good. Will contact you after work then. About 7pm
Absolutely love this idea. The 2.5 amp fuse built in saves a lot of expense Brilliantly thought out Fil. 👍
Cheers Dave!
Really enjoyed that video Fil, very interesting
Great video Fil and very informative. May I make a suggestion on ways of getting sound on deadrail loco's using the Micron Control/RC Trains MR603 receiver/controller please? if there is a simple and cheaper option that is. Cheers. Paul
Excellent work as per usual!
