Myers Allotment Reserve 10th Anniversary Celebration Day
Переглядів 913 роки тому
On July 7th 2021 Lancashire branch of Butterfly Conservation held a day of celebration for the 10th Anniversary of running the Myers Allotment reserve in Silverdale. Due to government restrictions in place at the time we were sadly still restricted on numbers so felt that inviting volunteers and partners involved was important, however we will plan to hold a more 'open' event in 2022.

Moth Trapping and Recording - Manchester Festival of Nature 2020
If you can learn the common name of these English moths, why can't you learn the real name, the scientific names? Settling a poor example for up and coming Lepidopterists, I believe.
Thanks for an informative video. I repaired my father's old Heath trap and got it going again as a project during lockdown, and have been using it every year since, in my garden in Hampshire. It isn't as powerful as a Robinson (only 8W) but I've found 123 species so far, and still getting the odd new species.
Hopefully I'll visit this place on our way back from Arnside first week of June.
Great presentation Trevor
stunning 🙌
Really enjoyed this. Thanks Steve and Lancs BC branch.
I lived for some years in Lancaster & enjoyed the local nature. I caught several of the species you described in your video yesterday. I now live ( since 2019 ) in Western Russia but still bird watch & run a moth trap. You might not remember me, but we met several times ( speaking to Pete Marsh ) my name is Pavlo Zaltowski. Hope you are doing O.K & I wish you well.
Great to hear from you Pavlo! Pete certainly remembers you. It would be lovely to hear some more from you particularly about the moths in Russia. If you could drop me a line at chairman@lancashire-butterflies.org.uk initially, to establish contact, that would be fantastic. All the best from Lancashire BC.
Absolutely amazing video
Interesting that you mention the lack of variation in Heart and Dart. This year seems to be an exception, and I've had some unusual individuals.
Thanks very much everyone for tuning in! To find out more about the Lancashire Branch of Butterfly Conservation and our virtual Saturday morning moth sessions, check out our video description for more details!
When is the best time of year for moth trapping?
Hi Lorna, thanks very much for your question! You can moth trap any time of year, but between May and September is the best as you'll see more moths in the warmer weather. There are moths flying in every month of the year though, so you could still give it a go! Do you already have a moth trap?
@@lancashirebranchbutterflyc3217 Thanks for answering my question. I've not got one at the moment unfortunately!
@@lornawilliamson4363 There is lots of useful information on how to start looking for moths on the Butterfly Conservation website, including light traps and other ways to find moths: butterfly-conservation.org/moths/recording-moths/how-to-record-moths Do let us know what moths you find and also keep an eye on our website/Twitter page for upcoming events to learn all about moths! It would be great to see you at our next Saturday morning moth session :-)
Does anybody already moth trap in their own gardens? Would you like to learn more about where to start? We'd love to see and hear all about what you are up to! Comment here or share photos over on our Twitter page @BC_lancs.
Hello everyone! Welcome to our moth trapping session (recorded thankfully before all this rainy weather!) Feel free to ask any questions here or on our @BC_lancs Twitter page!
