Intro to Theology - Tribal identity (Seminary Scribblings)
Here are some of my scribblings from seminary (actual assignments I've turned in!) that I'd like to share here, in the hopes that it will encourage you in your faith, and perhaps even help you to ponder whether seminary might become a part of your own journey with Jesus. I began my studies in January 2023 at Emmanuel Christian Seminary (Milligan University), Johnson City, TN, studying remotely with a cohort in the M.Div. program (Old Testament, New Testament, Theology, Church History, and Practical Ministry). I'm loving it! Emmanuel's strengths are: a strong and supportive community; a willingness to engage in the hot topics of our day; commitment and devotion to Christ unapologetically; a solid grounding in the authority of Scripture; excellent scholarship; diverse readings across times, places, and cultures; unity in the body of Christ, connecting with the community; and doing authentic life together, with all of the accompanying highs, lows, unpredictability, and messiness. This journey is a gift from God for me that I freely share with you!

I believe and am confident that God is unchangeable in essence and character, forever good and trustworthy and true. God's love is perfect and complete. We are to trust in the faithfulness of Christ, not our own faithfulness.

God is a title like men or woman.Also there are many gods. The almighty is Jehovah god found in psalms 83:18. Please use his name. I am sure the person reading my comment has a name❤❤
By "God" I am referring to the triune God who lives and acts in mutual self-giving and community-forming love (God the Father, Christ Jesus, Holy Spirit). This is in accordance with orthodox creeds throughout the history of Christianity. The central Christian message is the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the incarnate, crucified, and risen Word of God. Thanks for your comment ... I get what you're saying, but keep in mind that God has revealed Godself through a variety of "names" throughout Scripture, as a way to reveal to individuals or groups some aspect of who God is (e.g. "I Am", "the way, the truth, and the life", "healer", "wisdom", "Emmanuel", etc.) ... our understanding will always be incomplete, but God has provided many helps in Scripture ... as an aside, even though I have a given name, I am also called by other names when it comes to certain relationships in my life (e.g. Mum), an experience common to many people!

(My husband and I have celebrated 38 years of marriage, so very grateful) - as you know, unity between two is not about uniformity or conformity but about pulling together in the same direction while remaining distinct individuals with personalities, experiences, gifts, graces, etc. (there's probably better ways to describe all that) ... The unity of the Trinity is even more beautiful yet also mysterious ... because we are finite, it is not possible for us to perfectly comprehend God who is infinite. Jesus Christ's life, miracles, death, and resurrection (as fully God and fully human) opened the way to God's new world, abundant life here and now and forever. We are called, invited, and welcomed into eternal communion with the triune God, into the eternal embrace (some call it an eternal dance).
