How to Trim Your Curly Hair at Home | DIY Curly Hair Trimming for Growth
Hey Curl Friends, welcome back to my channel Outrageous Curls! In this video, we’re diving into the world of DIY curly hair care, showing you how to trim your curly hair at home. Regular trimming is essential for maintaining healthy curls and coils and promoting curly hair growth. Say goodbye to split ends and hello to luscious, bouncy curls!
Why Trim Your Curly Hair?
Trimming your curly hair regularly helps in several ways:
Prevents Split Ends: Regular trims keep split ends at bay, preventing further damage.
Promotes Growth: By trimming damaged ends, your hair can grow longer and healthier.
Enhances Curl Definition: Freshly trimmed ends allow curls to bounce back with more definition and vitality.
Maintains Shape: Keep your curls looking fabulous by maintaining their shape and structure.
DIY Curly Hair Trimming Tips
1. Start with Clean, Dry Hair
Ensure your hair is clean, dry, and styled as you usually wear it. This helps you see your curls' natural pattern and cut accurately.
2. Section Your Curly Hair
Divide your hair into manageable sections. Use clips to keep the sections separate and work on one section at a time.
3. Use Sharp Scissors
Invest in a good pair of hair-cutting scissors. Dull scissors can cause more damage to your natural hair.
4. Trim Curl by Curl
Take one curl at a time and trim the ends. Cut less than you think you need to, as curly hair shrinks when dry.
5. Follow the Curl Pattern
Cut your hair in its natural curl pattern. Avoid pulling or stretching the curls, as this can lead to uneven hair cuts.
6. Regular Maintenance
Trim your hair every 8-12 weeks to keep it healthy and free of split ends.
Curly Hair Tips for Growth
Hydration is Key: Keep your curls hydrated with regular deep conditioning treatments.
Avoid Heat: Limit the use of heat styling tools to prevent damage.
Protective Styles: Use protective styles to minimize breakage and promote growth.
Gentle Detangling: Detangle your hair gently with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers.
Silk or Satin: Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and prevent breakage.

✝️ Jesus loves you so much! Never forget that. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is coming back to this earth soon!
Do i have to dip the hair or just put it on the top ?
Thank you for your comment! You want some spare hair strands from your brush or comb, and then put it on top and it will either float or go to the bottom of the glass
Is the oil able to thicken the hair at the roots?
this is great!! tysm <3
Thank you for your lovey comment! And you're welcome!
Did you leave in the conditioner or washed it out?
Thank you for your comment! And I use this as a co wash cleanser and a rinse out conditioner 😄
I use it and I like it, I have a hair goal I want to meet by Dec
Thank you for your lovely comment! That is amazing! Loving this, how is it going so far?
@@outrageouscurls It's going great my hair is growing nicely
Can you use this along with the curl activating cream?
Yes you can use the Cantu Custard along with the Cantu Curl Activating Cream 😄
Curls seems fluffier and lighter with the mousse. But both sides look great!
Thank you for your comment! Yes you are completely right, that is what I love about the hair mousse option. And thank you! 😄💖
Can you do the difference between this and other butter from Camille rose please?
Thank you for your comment! Yes of course! I will get the products when they are on offer again and will do the comparison 😄
New Subscribers ❤
Yay! Thank you for subscribing! Welcome Curl Friend!
Beautiful....one of the bottles was outside your frame so we missed it. Thanks for sharing video tips. ❤
Thank you so much! I do apologise for that, the product was Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk. Awww you're welcome! Here to help!
do you get it cut? i haven't since i chopped it off completely almost 3 years ago and dont know any hair salons currently
I am currently just trimming the ends myself as it seems quite expensive to get a curly hair cut because they want to wash your curly hair as well. I have linked a hair salon here for you that is based in London - www.3thirty.co.uk/hairandbeauty.html I am not sure if they can do just a curly hair cut. They used to before
i also have pretty much the same hair type as you, also from the uk so i imagine in public you might get some of the same comments i get. they are positive comments from the public, but at one point i cut all my hair off because i was sick of being so 'out there' lol. it's grown back now to mid chest length, shrinks to near my shoulders. i love taking care of it, and i do love it. although i don't know what to do with my fringe right now because the curls there just don't settle right so i end up clipping it back. i never meet anyone who looks like me to talk about what it's like to have curly hair with lol
Thank you for your comment! Yay! A fellow UK Curl friend! Yes I do get positive comments from the public. Oh bless you, and that is amazing it has grown so well! And I am loving your confidence and the love you have for your natural hair! I do recommend 3 Thirty Salon in London which is good. I will admit the prices are expensive. I am not sure if they offer just a hair cut like they used to - www.3thirty.co.uk/hairandbeauty.html
Comment below, have you tried the Olive Oil Curlshow products?
Please post more this is so helpful thank you 😢😢
Thank you for your lovely comment! I am getting back into the habit on posting more! 💖
Thank you! I am considering getting the set
You're welcome! 😄 Sorry for my late reply. Did you get the set in the end? How were the products for you?
Good video! I love the shampoo and hair oil! My hair seems dry after the mask, so heading your way the store to get the leave in conditioner today.
Thank you for your lovely comment! Sorry for my late reply back! Oh no sorry to hear that. How did it turn out using the leave in conditioner?
😂😂😂 I laughed so hard at this this is how my hair is every time
Thank you for your comment! I am so glad you relate! 😂
This product stopped your hair loss?
Thank you for your comment and sorry for my late reply back. To be honest, II did not use it long enough to check if it does to be honest. I do know one that is super popular and great for hair loss which is Mielle Organics Rosemary and Mint Hair Oil
I love using these products.
Thank you for your comment! Sorry for my late reply back! Same! 😍Mielle Organics is amazing! What is your favourite Mielle Organics product?
Do you pour mineral water on ur hair after shower or mask? Or your water has already distilled
Thank you for your comment! Sorry for the late reply back, I am back in the UK and in an area where our water is already distilled and not super harsh
Comment below, do you hate how messy it can be to style curly hair?
Omg yes! It is ridiculous the amount of hair strands I found everywhere 😭
@@Mcnaught95 It is so annoying!
To be honest, I only went into the comments to see how many people said: CaNtU iS bAaaaaaaaaD! Btw, very good recommendations in my opinion. 10/10
Hahahaha lol, that is alright! Yeah Cantu is very 50/50. Since the change over, I know it has not worked from some people sadly, but for me it is is still giving me good results and it is very affordable! And thank you so much! 😄💖
do you do this routine with every product every time you wash your hair? and do you use the oil every day?
No not every time, I do change my curly hair products up. There are times I use just a leave in and a curling cream, a curling cream on its own or a curling cream and a hair gel to moisturise and define the curls. And every now and then but not all the time. I will be again starting from next week as I am trying to grow and thicken my curly hair using hair growth oils 😄💖 stay tuned for this!
@@outrageouscurls ok thank u sm!! actually started using these products a week ago nd i can already see a difference
Both sides are beautiful 😍😍
Awww thank you! 💖Have you tried either of these products before? 😄
Im your first like Pls pin me
Thank you so much! 💖
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous, I wish I could get my daughters hair looking as moisturised as that. I'm going to try these products & see if they help. I usually find that once I put products in it looks nice but then as it dries it doesn't stay looking shiny & moisturised
Awww thank you so much 🥰💖 these products are really good. Yes unfortunately curly hair does get dry quickly 😞 it is the downfall of curly hair. It is important to keep it hydrated so to refresh the curls, use some water in a spray bottle. Spray th water over the hair and smooth it out to help reactivate the curls and add hydration to the curls. It is good to do this for about 2 days maximum. If the curls feel super dry, put a some leave in conditioner in the water spray bottle and shake well to mix it. Then spray this over the hair 😄 I will share a video in a next couple of week on how to refresh curly hair during the week😄
love it! you're so gorgeousss
Glad you enjoyed the video 🥰 Awwww thank you so much! 💖
I finally found someone who has type 4 hair 🎉🎉 and are you mixed ???
Yay!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Welcome curl friend and yes I am. I am Jamaican, Antiguan and English 😄
Is that a piece you had to cut that got tangled? This happens to my 3c hair So much it gets so knotted
Yes it was 😭 it is so annoying when that happens!
That looks like mielle?
Yes the first time I used the Mielle Organics Hawaiian Ginger gel it did give me flakes as I over done it, the second time around it worked pretty well. I did want to actually show that it was the Eco styler gel that always gave me curly hair flakes. I have tried them all and none of them worked for me 😭
Are you 3c/4a?
I have a mix of 3c and 4a curls 😄
Comment below, if you need any curly hair tips or advice, I am here to help you out 😄
Cold
It was so cold 🥶
I love earrings. I have a collection of all different ones from cute little gemstone drops to pickle rick 😂 lately ive been obsessed with things preserved in resin, but earrings. I got a pair of strawberry slice earrings and a pair of butterfly wings dipped in resin from etsy. Theyre adorable.
Same!!! Earrings are the best and I love the sound of the strawberry and butterfly earrings 😍😍😍
Comment below, 👇🏽 what is your favourite hair accessory?
Only 11 percent people have curly hairs unique ❤❤
Yesssss love this!!! 💖💖💖💖
Comment below, what is your favourite shampoo or cleanser at the moment?
My favourite shampoo is the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo as it cleanses my curls whilst moisturising my curls and it also helps reduce frizz!!! 😁
@@Mcnaught95 Yesss! that is a really good shampoo for curly hair especially thick curly hair! Good choice!
Comment below 👇🏽 do you ever run late for events or special occasions? 😂
Yeah sometimes 😅 I try my best not to. I swear time is always against me 😂
That mask looks so yummy. Your hair soaked it up instantaneously. Your hair is beautiful. Tfs.
It is! I love it and it was absolutely amazing! Awww, thank you so much 🥰💖
I tried mine it floated but when i touched it with the tip of my fingers like i want to move it after 3 mins they all sank. What does that means ?
Thank you for your patience on this. So this means you have high porosity hair. This hair type can take moisture in really well but it can also lose it very quickly which makes it feel more dry than it should. For High porosity hair, you need to apply a product and then seal it and apply another product to help seal in the moisture. The LOC method is the best styling process to get maximum hydration and moisture for high porosity hair. The LOC method means the following styling process, apply a liquid or leave in conditioner, then seal this with your favourite hair oil and then follow up with a curling cream. This process helps the moisture stay in your hair strands longer. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, I am more than happy to help!😄💖
well worked on my curly hairs 3c . recommended defintely
Yessss awwww so happy to hear it worked well for you too! One of the best curling creams 💖
It really works
It does one of the best curling creams out there! 💖
My favorite is Cantu Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque 😍😍😍
That is an amazing deep conditioner!
✨Comment below 👇🏽 what is your favourite deep conditioner at the moment?
Great tips !
Thank you! Glad you liked it💖
Hi I'm a guy starting to get on my hair growth journey and was wondering if you applied the leave-in conditioner on damp or dry hair? I'm assuming it'd be better on damp hair? Thank you
Congratulations for taking the first step on your hair growth journey! 😄. Always apply a leave in conditioner on damp hair and you are so right. This is because the hair strands are open and ready to soak in the moisture of the leave in conditioner. On dry hair you won't get the best results as the hair is not ready or prepared to take anything in. Natural hair is like a plant, it needs to be watered and hydrated first before you start feeding it moisture. I hope this helps!
Good advice
Thank you! Glad you liked it 💖
Does it come off after sleeping and friction against the pillow and how long would u say the colour stays on
I covered my hair with a shower cap to help prevent it from coming off onto the pillowcase. The first night it did come over and some of the dye did go onto the pillowcase. I do have a satin pillowcase whereas I think a cotton pillowcase might take more of it off. I found the colour was very vibrant for 2 days and then slowly faded during the week but the colour was still visible. I would say it lasts up to a week maximum. I did go over a few times to see how long it lasts but I personally would say a week at best when it comes to how visible the colour is 😄
Comment below, what curly hair tip do you want me to answer for you? I am here to help out with any of your curly hair problems
Thank you for these curly hair tips, I always struggle with stretching out my curly hair during the week and it gets super dry 😭 but I will definitely give a go what you said 😄
