Repairing the Stringers
Today we dig into the stringers, or what's left of them. Are they even worth saving, or should I cut them out and start from scratch? Stick around to find out.

Will my homemade gantry hold or will I be scraping fiberglass off the shop floor? Today I attempt to flip the boat over to start working on the bottom. #aquasport #aquasport222 #aquasport240 #boatrestoration #fiberglass #boatrepair #seahunter #classicboat #boatflip #gantry
Bye Bye Bottom Paint
Переглядів 1,6 тис.26 днів тому
Now that I have the hull flipped, I can start working on removing the old paint. To keep the damage to the fiberglass to a minimum, I skipped the sandblasting and instead opted to use a few gallons of Citristrip and a trusty scraper. #aquasport #aquasport222 #aquasport240 #boatrestoration #fiberglass #boatrepair #seahunter #classicboat #paintstripper #citristrip #bottompaint #bottompaintremoval...

Welcome to my channel and the first video of many! Follow along as I dive into the restoration of a rare 1975 Aquasport 240 Seahunter. Today I take a look over the newest project in the shop and start to devise a plan of attack. #aquasport #aquasport222 #aquasport240 #boatrestoration #fiberglass #boatrepair #seahunter #classicboat
What kind of boat was it and how long? Thanks.
Did you get it for free?

Curious why you wouldn’t just build new stringer system?
Great work
@@howellgrange8257 thank you!
Enjoying all the videos! Very fun project to watch so far

Thank goodness that factory foam was nice and dry! That could have sucked 😮💨
@@bryanbejar yup, the last boat I did took nine gallons of foam to refill them 🤑
Very good job mate That came up very good

Why would anyone in the 21st century be spraying polyester gel coat below the waterline ! Why not use epoxy ??? Which is waterproof unlike polyester resin based products that

beautiful boat! recently completed my 222, well.. is it really ever done 🤣
@SemiGloss222 nope, they are never done!
Great videos, keep um coming!!!!!
Awesome! Enjoying the process so far.
Glad to see someone else wet sands with an electric sander. …..
@stevejackson4136 haha, yeah, I really didn't want to listen to the compressor running for days on end. I remember throwing out a disclosure in one of the clips to use caution, but it must not have made the final cut. So.. use caution with water and electricity.
@@SomeDaysBoatworks yes,Sir. Well aware. That’s why I said” someone else”. Done it many times. JUT USE CAUTION!
Excited to see the process .
Congrats bro! Following along. Really curious how you flipped the hull with the gantry!! Could you use the transom mold i made?
Nice work. My 240 was a Cuddy Cabin version and the cap was very tall and awkward leading to me dropping it. It was heavy and the weight was all toward the front leading to it falling while removing.
Looking so good!
@@bryanbejar thanks bud
Great to see you on UA-cam now. Followed along for a few of your builds on the Aquasport Forum. I run a 222 and was starting a 240 rebuild but put it on hold while I build out a 31 Bertram. Looking forward to the channel.

Amazing work, i can really appreciate how thorough you are. I’m excited for when you flip her back upright.
Thanks for watching! Got her flipped back over now. More videos coming soon
Any footage of turning the boat over?
just found it
I used the 1k and then the 2k for a mirror finish on my Boat. It cuts like sandpaper. Fiberglass Supply Depot Aquabuff 1000 - Compound and Polish

@ thanks to you for this awesome content
Curious what pressure at the gun (triggered)? I have the same setup and will be spraying Duratec as well. Thanks!
@flatsixinc I want to say it was around 40-50 psi. I found the best results were with the pressure turned about all the way up and the fluid needle mostly closed. Then shoot at a piece of cardboard and adjust. Seem to get the best results when you can spray it thin and build a few layers versus a couple of heavier coats.
Плохая идея наносить гелькоут спрей в гараже , всё будет покрыто гелькоутом. Можно сделать легкую палатку из пленки.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Duratec is not for use below the waterline.
According to their TDS, it can be used anywhere you use gelcoat, including above or below the waterline. Thanks for watching!
I would like to seen you do the sides while you were at it
How did you mix the Gelcoat and Duratec? Sprayed them seperately?
@frankmelero5511 you mix them up together in the cup before you add the catalyst. Gelcoat is pretty thick by itself and the Duratec is designed to thin it out so it sprays easier.
How much coverage do you get per gallon and at what thickness is needed for it to be able to sand and buff...
@guyyates3284 I'm not sure exactly how thick it ended up being. I ended up using just under two gallons of gelcoat and a gallon of duratec and that gave me four good coats plus a little extra for the chines and keel.
I live in St. Petersburg and I understand your troubles with this weather. I just installed a brand new 2024 25 Suzuki on my 13 ft whaler and I’ve been dying to test her out. Finally went out yesterday and all of the local boat ramps had no water 😢 so I had to launch at demons landing down by the pier That water is rough as hell , got maybe 30 minutes to test the motor till the water got really rough , I hate this winter weather bs
@Whalermansteve84 those negative low tides are something this week! Thankfully the Florida winters are short lived. Thanks for watching
🤔we are drilling holes in the ice to fish ... you are complaining 55f in St. Pete lol
Really enjoy your work. I should have gone with the accuspray for my build. Hope everything keeps going smooth for ya.
I'm gonna be building a flats skiff myself sometime this year, everyone is pushing me towards paint for various reasons but I still feel spraying gelcoat would be better for long term durability. Have you sprayed gelcoat on a boat before? How many layers should I apply? How long should I expect it to last?
@kodijackson5466 there are pros and cons to both, and you will get a different answer from pretty much everyone you ask. Best bet is to go with what will work best for your situation. I went with gelcoat mainly because I will be leaving the boat in the water for a week at a time every now and then and don't want to risk the paint blistering. I've sprayed both gelcoat and paint before and either option will last if done right and taken care of.
Awsome, One day I will attempt this with my Wellcraft v20.
That is an awesome project, I love that Hull.
@@nymack66 thanks! I'm excited for this one

Looks really good... Show the wet sanding, and buffing process please.
Awesome project, which paint remover did you use? Citrous??
@@shoresharp8349 thanks! It is called Citristrip. You can find it at most hardware stores.
@SomeDaysBoatworks Thanks for the reply. I have a 18ft skiff that I've completely rebuilt from the stringers up. My last project is to remove the bottom paint!!!! I'm going to look for the stripper.
How long do you have before the mixture kicks in your gun? Do you just swap gun guts out and continue?
@jonm.7982 depending on the temperature and percentage of catalyst, anywhere between about 5 and 15 mins. It was cool out that day so I had plenty of time to spray it all before it started to kick. With that 3m gun, nothing gets inside of it. All the material stays inside the liner or removable tip so worst case you just swap those out and keep going.
Do you have the 3m part numbers for this system?
@jonm.7982 sure, it's the Accuspray HGP 16587
Just finished watching everything you've done thus far. Excellent work, please continue to upload.
Love it, Mike. Subbed. Can't wait to see where she goes from here.
