Jeep commander! I just got one. Sitting in it now watching this. Mines the 4.7. You got the hemi?
Sorry for getting back to you so late. Yes, I had the Hemi. Last January I traded it in for a Gladiator. I loved that Commander and it was a very hard decision to make. I had also sold my Ram truck so I needed to combined the vehicles in to 1 so the Jeep Gladiator was the winner.
Hey, is there an official map that lays out the campsites? I’m looking online and cannot find anything

Do you need to replace both at the same time?
Yes, I would replace both. The bushing will be loose on the old one and tight on the new. It will likely affect your ride.
**PotomAc river Valley
It is a beautiful area.
We'll have to check that place out thanks for the video it been a while like the jeep 👍
Thanks Jason. It has been a while. We may not get back out till February. We are planning on going to Flag Pole Knob in February.
Is this a good trail for a dual sport motorcycle?
What do you ride? I think the off road bike touring is pretty cool.
Awesome!!!👠🚌👠
What size lift is that?
They are LT285/70R17. Yes, there is tire rub on the passenger side wheel well, even with the pinch weld mod. The A/C tubes that go back for the third row are in the way on the passenger wheel well behind the plastic inner liner. It's the tire width that is the problem, not the height. I am going to replace the tires with 235/85r17 BFG KO2. Of course, I have about a 3 inch lift too. The lift is a Rocky Roads lift. I plan to replace it with the 5 inch Jeeperf lift.
So these upper control arms work on a 3 inch lift? I want to get these and I have the 3 inch lift on my commander
Thank you! Heading there in my stock f150 this weekend. Lol
Have fun.
Been going to GREEN RIDGE FOR DECADES. THAT BUILDING WAS AN OLD HUNITING CABIN.THEY WERE ALL OVER G.R.MY GRAND FATHER HAD ONE ON MERTINS AVE BACK IN THE60S AND 70S.. GLAD YOU INJOYED YOUR STAY! CHEERS! FROM THE G R WOODSMAN...
Thanks for the info Doug.
i’ve been trying to get a bead on campsite 84, down yonkers bottom rd. wondering if i can get my 20’ camper down there…. i hate to get halfway down there, then not be able to turn around
Check out Gaia maps. I don't think you have to turn around. I think you can drive on through.
Wish they'd make the fly cove the rear better, the exposed inner walls will sweat in rain.
I haven't had that issue and have had it out in the rain a few times.
If you have/get the waterproof gazebo wind panels you can add those to the outsides of the tent and it works amazingly well especially for the areas the rain fly doesn’t fully cover.
Awesome video montage. I liked and subscribed. I lifted my Commander 9 years ago and it was an ordeal. I remember utilizing the $640 buck lift kit with Bilsteins or Old Man Emu. The back are Ranchos adjustables. The key component that I cheaped out was the ARB Control arms. I'm running BFG 265/75/17's. Do your tires rub? I added spacers and it helped a little. I almost attempted the "pinch weld" cut and hammer but I chickened out. My front CV joints need to replaced. I plan to order the RRO kit tonite. How is the fit, form and comfort? Thanks for the input and response ahead of time.
It is definitely a challenge to lift the Commander. I went with the Rocky Roads upper control arm. Replace my lower arm because of the bushings. I have quick release front sway bar arms, but I am not happy with them. I have 3" lift in the front and 2.5" back. I still need to do some work in the back end. I will have to do a video on my lift at some point. I also have wheel spacers. I did the pinch weld mod. It wasn't too hard. I do have rub on the front passenger side, but that is because they run the A/C lines for the third row seating there behind the plastic. I am thinking of removing those so I can get that needed inch back.
I was there a few weeks ago plotting out an Overlanding trip for my Bronco club. I was wondering about that pad site and how you would reserve it. Site 85 is nice but I like that one more. If you come in from the other side of Cliff Road from High Germany Road, the road has a small washout that a wide vehicle will have a problem. There’s a drop off there and a huge overhanging rock wall so you can’t go around it.
I think the only way to reserve the 85+ pad site would be to call and reserve it, but I believe all sites are first come, first served. The good thing is that it is not listed on the sign in sheet. I would just write it in when you get there as site 85+(pad).
Is there a way to sign in and pay for the 85+ unmarked spot, or would you recommend always getting permission from the ranger station first?
If the Ranger Station is closed, I would just write it in at the bottom of the check-in sheet they have. I believe there are blanks on the sheet.
They call them overflow sites and yes you write it in on a blank line as site 85 overflow or road name overflow 85 itself is a great site as well one of my favorite
What’s the torque specs for the bolts ?
Great question. I don't remember. I feel like a little over 100.
The buildings near the bridge were used to house German prisoners of war during WWII then later a juvenile detention area. This was later moved toward the interstate just as one enters the forest.
I did not know that. Thanks for the info.
My old boyscout troop did a trip to a camp site further up the road during the winter off season around 2015. Barely made it in a Lexus ES 350 sedan. It was a horribly cold night with a Wind Advisory issued. We stopped multiple times to move debris off the road for our caravan to continue up. All the while trees were swaying aggressively above us and loud cracking noises could be heard in the distance. Intense experience but it was so worth it. One of my favorite adventures.
Sounds like quite the adventure!
We have an 06 commander. What is the roof rack you have? Need to get one for ours. Been looking for options.
Completely custom build. We had to cut it up some. The weight was to much. I am planning to build a new one.
What is the blue cone looking thing?
Bathroom tent. That one broke so we bought a better one. The new one is in a later video.
I thought I wanted one, now I know I don’t so thanks for the video, I wish my daughter would go camping with us at that age, she stopped following us around 14 and finds us weird camping at over 50years old, miss spending time with the kids but alone time with mom is very relaxing
It's still pretty easy to put up.
I know this was posted in 2021 but May road now has been freshly grated and graveled. We camped at site 43 with an old dodge minivan, a 2022 tacoma 4x4 and a ford edge. No issues at all. Great video :)
Thanks for the update Alf. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Good job on the video. Looks like a blast.
Thanks 👍. It was a lot of fun.
He's looks good but I hate them jeeps junk
Nice. I'm guessing you're a Toyota person.
@@BananaRepublicAdventures no gm guy can't afford one tho
Fun video! I spent most my life in Maryland, and some days I even miss it :)
It's a nice camping area.
I don't stake down the footprint separately. I lay it out and then stake it down at the same time I stake down the tent using the same stake. I think it makes things a little easier.
Sounds good. Thanks for the advice.
Great video! I have to look this one up. Not to far for me in Silver Spring Md. Also, Marty is a cute name. Thanks guys!
It's a nice area. I think there may also be another road south of Rapidan Road that takes you into the mountain.
I enjoy your videos as much as Green Ridge! I just bought the T-4 plus and headed to site 70 or 43 on Tuesday.
Thanks! How did your trip go?
@@BananaRepublicAdventures The trip was fantastic! Chose site 43 and really tested the Gazelle as it poured the first night and most of the next day. Great tent! I found a place on Hipcamp that butts up against green ridge and 500ft from C&O trail, 3 mi from Paw Paw tunnel that Im looking to try out soon. Thanks for the videos!
Glad to hear. We used the Gazelle again in our next two up coming videos. Great tent.
@@BananaRepublicAdventures really is a great tent. I can’t wait to catch the next adventure.
Thanks for being a Subscriber!
did you have reception at this site?
I have Verizon and it does pretty good in Green Ridge State Forest.
@@BananaRepublicAdventures ahh ok, I have at&t and didnt have any reception at site 84 last time I went, which was disappointing. What are your top 5 recommended sites? Planning on going up on 4th of july and I want to get a decent site for my family.
Haven't been to enough yet. I do like the 40s. They are designated 4x4. I have a video on site 42. But site 43 looked better.
did this site have reception?
I have Verizon and have been pretty successful with coverage in George Washington National Park .
Any updates so far on how you like them?
They're good. The hasn't been any binding or other issues.
That thing looks like a pain in the azz, to put up.
It is the first few times. But once you get use to it, it goes faster.
Jeeez if you find this like too much work just rent a hotel room but i guess even bringing the clothes bags is allot of work HA HA HA. Better yet just stay home watching the maid do the cleaning and the yardman cut the grass. Like how lazy can a person be 😅😅😅😅🤣😂
@@mikep4823 HUH?
It literally can be put up in 120 seconds.. it’s one of the easiest tents to put up…
Come on man, In a hurry to get out there uh, your kid did all the work setting up camp, dude how bout doing your part instead of just walking around would have been done faster, but any way nice commander
Wow, guess I should have left the whole video up of settings up the tent. Definitely took a while to setup for the first time. Thanks for the Commander comment. It's a work in process.
What an incredibly stupid comment. First of all it is very inaccurate and second letting his daughter participate is not only teaching her to be self reliant but also she enjoyed it… and you didn’t see him right along side her setting up the tent?
Interesting very flat but very beautiful. Might make a trip from Va.
It's a nice day drive.Drive. check their website before you go. There are times the offroad section is closed.
Nice to see another Commander out there.
Thanks!
Hello Campers. We also have a Gazelle T4 Plus, the original orange model. We have had it about a year and a half spending approximately 30 nights in it. It is a great tent and we enjoy using. However, just know that strong winds can and will collapse the hubs. Staking and tethering the five metal eyebolts helps with the hub walls. Yet, on two occasions, once while camping in Western Kansas and once in Alabama, wind gust have collapsed a roof hub in. In Kansas it happened so many times that we eventually retreated to the truck for some sleep. In Alabama, the wind was so strong it put enough force on the roof hub to push one of the fiberglass poles through a corner seam. Easy enough to repair at home, but ended that camping trip. Don't intend to sound negative as we love this tent, but just know wind is it's nemesis.
Good to know, thanks. I waited on buying it, figuring they would make it in green. Glad I waited.
I'm considering buying one of these. I like the green color better from the outside but I'm thinking the brighter orange color would serve better for inside lighting at night. I was hoping this video would change my mind but the camera never entered the tent.
I waited for the green because on the way everything inside orange and yellow tents are so saturated by those colors in the tent. The green tent just makes it a little darker, but everything inside doesn't look green. Yellow and orange tent sometimes give me headaches in the morning when the sun blasts those brighter colors in the rent.
I have the light green T3 tent and just received the T4 plus overland. We camp as a family with two young boys who race motocross. Luckily our T3 didn't collapse during very windy conditions camped next to the track. I think the large cover for the T4 plus will be very different than the T3, in a good way vs the wind.
Use a collapsible tent pole in the middle of the ceiling hub on windy days and you won't have that issue next time
You have to leave those refrigerators plugged in and running.
Yes. I need to get a battery system for my rig. Hope to pick one up later this year.
just discovered your channel today! Looking forward to getting out on the trails in the area when I get my new Bronco, this is great to see some of the opportunities here in MD and VA.
Did you get your Bronco, and how do you like it.
@@BananaRepublicAdventures just took delivery yesterday. Enjoyed some time cruising around Carroll County back roads today with the top down today, absolutely love it!
Great video! Looks like a lot of fun! I Definitely need to get this one under my belt.
Let me know, and we will head up with you if you want. Thanks for watching.
Did this site have a creek?
No. It didn't have a creek close to the site.
Hello is this southern Maryland or is in Virginia
No. This is Skyland Drive, which is in Virginia.
Did y’all stop anywhere to eat or shop?
No. We split off earlier then the rest of the group. They stopped off along the southern section.
I was at site 42 recently and saw a bear, have you had any bear encounters in Green Ridge?
No. I haven't seen any there.
I would like to travel some roads with you and maybe record a video together, I also have a UA-cam channel
We may have to do that. What's your channel?
@@BananaRepublicAdventures My channel is called FSJ Aventuras & 4x4, I am from Puerto Rico, my channel is in Spanish.
Just watched your videos. Looks like you all have a fun time. I don't know Spanish, but enjoyed them all the same. Looks like you are in Maryland too.
hello, are you from maryland?
Yes Raymond I am.
Thanks for the videos of Green Ridge State Park! We are interested in doing a family camping trip up there. I noticed you didn't get campsite 65 this second time, was it booked? Would you recommend or discourage any campsites for a family with small kids? It's hard to grasp the incline of some of those hills in the videos.
Site 65 was booked and is on a bit of a hill maybe not good for toddlers. The rest of these sites, minus the ones mentioned right on the road, would probably work for you and your family. There aren't a lot of big hill climbs in the park. The decent into and out of site 66 is a little sketchy if you aren't use to driving rocks and narrow roads.
Thanks for sharing! I plan to check it out soon. 🤙🏽
We are hoping to get back up there in the next few weeks to review another site.
What wheels are you running?
255/75r17 BFG Mud tire
Love your videos
