The truth about RIGHTS. We’re viewing it all WRONG. - Drawing the Line w/ Just Mic
#humanrights #blackliberation #panafrican It’s time to reframe the way we think of Rights. In this video, we’ll explore the concept of rights from a grounded, practical perspective that will help us to break free from the perception of “rights” as merely something that we hope for.
UPDATE: The UHURU 3 were found Not Guilty of being foreign agents. However, they were found Guilty of "conspiracy". So they aren't in the clear just yet. They will or course file an appeal.

    Brilliant video. While i would cite the Imperial Boomerang in terms of what is going in Palestine will eventually happen at home, within the context of the US, what is usually practiced on the black and indigenous communities will not only move to the larger society but will then be transported to other countries to maintain the empire. Great analysis

    How do we fund the work though? The issue many of our movements have is lack of funding or bad funding from a big donor who co-ops the movement and makes it impotent.

    • @justmicdtl

      @@AfricanMartialArts Great question! Funding is a huge limiting factor in movement building. I've found it to be personally quite frustrating attempting to get funding through big foundations. Iyve made it to the final round for a few grants, only to be told that my idea was too ”bold" (= too Black, too politically radical). I think I was made a finalist just so they could claim they accept "diverse" applications lol. Having limited resources means we must engage in 1) ingenuity and resourcefulness, and 2) resource sharing. At the heart of both is building trust and mutually beneficial relationships among people. There are so many separate groups doing similar work but struggling to make an impact because they are all using our limited resources separately. And when one group does develop an innovative approach, there needs to be a very intentional effort to openly share knowledge and help others to adapt and implement the innovative approach. I certainly don't have the answers, but I do have some experiences dealing with this and some ideas on how to address the funding issue. I will think on it a bit more and come up with some specific suggestions in a video. Thanks!

      @@justmicdtl Thanks brother for the thoughtful response. I’ve been doing a lot of community building over the last year and getting burnt out. I find two things at work: 1. Many of us don’t have the resources to pay for the building of institutions or just services to the community. 2. Even without resources, many are not resourceful or willing to support the work. I find that many of our people are content with the status quo. As long as they have enough distractions in the form of church, sports, and entertainment, they are perfectly happy with status quo. Even when presented with the truth, they ignore it. This to me has been my biggest challenge.

    • @justmicdtl
      @justmicdtl 2 місяці тому

      @@AfricanMartialArts I feel ya. Burnout is real and if you don't heed the warning signs, you may find yourself completely exhausted and, even worse, jaded. I have found that the best approach is to focus on quality over quantity. Find a few people (or even just one) in your area that you feel aligned with and come up with a simple, low cost project you can collaborate on. This gives you both an opportunity to see that you're about more than talk. Worst case scenario, the person flakes and now you know. Best case scenario, your shared work leads to a stronger bond between you and your collaborators. And by finding a simple way to take action you put yourself in position to meet more people who may become inspired by the action they see you taking.

    I think had Fred Hampton lived he would have done more than any other leader we have had. Fred had a way of speaking to every man the lay person that just drew people to him, and to open their minds.

    I'm interested in hearing your ideas on solutions. Your identification of meme propaganda is insightful. To me the question is how do you move the masses from a resistance consciousness to a revolutionary consciousness and it's not by organizing around issues because this capitalist system creates new issues everyday.

    • @justmicdtl
      @justmicdtl 4 місяці тому

      That's a great question. It depends a great deal on how one defines "revolutionary". Engaging with social justice issues is an important and necessary aspect of revolutionary struggle. For a movement to be sustainable, resistance (actions against) has to be secondary to the actual building of institutions (actions for) that are reflective of the values and principles we live by. Injustice can compel people to fight, but it can also demoralize and drain people. Building community institutions that provide needed material resources and are committed to revolutionary values gives people the infrastructure and inspiration needed to survive, continue to struggle, and ultimately usher in a just and humans society.
