I was picking between Dulens APO Mini primes and DZO Arles. This one convinced me to just get the Dulenses. I just need to be aware of the limitations.

They share some similarities of Cooke lenses but they render really nicely. The rainbow flares can be an issue for some people but this is about as bad as it gets, the 43mm is the one with the most rainbow flaring.

2:53 - BTW when I say “mid point” I’m referring to middle gray. I accidentally inverted the directions when I said it. Your Mid-point goes up as your ISO goes down, then your Midpoint goes down when your ISO goes up.

I like 60-65 IRE. They tell us to expose at 55 but 60 to 65 is safe. also, I disagree with not using a lot of light use a lot of light just make it look natural and soft

Thank you for taking the time. This just popped up in my recommendeds. I hadn't thought about the darker skin assisting with roll off. That's a very significant feature. However, most of my work with darker skin has been indoors. Some years ago we did not have very good lighting equipment, and we were trying to light a black actor in a diner scene (behind the counter) and our lights were not doing the job. I also did not know at the time that warmer lights are more effective on darker skin, and Vern is quite dark. So we kept setting up and turning on more lights. After a while Vern finally said "It's because I'm black, isn't it?" We had to take 5 minutes to laugh our asses off. It's only been in the past few months that I learned there are specific lighting techniques for darker skin in order to be effective, rather than just throwing on more light. This information will make me a better Gaffer, when I am in that role, or even DP. Now I'm going to look at more of your videos.
