What liturgical year is it? A, B, C? 1? 2?!
Переглядів 2,1 тис.4 роки тому
How do you tell which "liturgical year" it is? Year A begins on the First Sunday in Advent in years evenly divisible by 3. Year 1 begins on the First Sunday in Advent preceding odd-numbered years. When in doubt, I usually check www.lectionarypage.net/

Using the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) on a Daily Basis: 3 Things You Should Know!
Переглядів 21 тис.4 роки тому
3 things you need to know to use the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) on a daily basis!
If you don’t want to use the apocrypha is there an optional reading ?
It appears that Forms of Prayer to be used at Sea didn't make it into the 2019 BCP?
The Anglican Compass site has been an excellent resource for me, as I am tired of concert and TED Talk-type church services.
Very helpful! Thanks.
Glad to meet you at Provincial Assembly and I am excited to see what happens with Anglican Compass in the years ahead with your leadership! God bless you Peter!
I got this book some time ago which is quite old from now, about 1940. The book I have was given to someone as a birthday present in 1940 and the giver said Congratulations in Roman. If there is a buyer, please tell me.
Would you be willing to provide your booklet in a PDF download? I think it would be useful to your audience.
Is this still available? I tried clicking the link, but no luck
Thank you for the infornation on the collects, it was very helpful to know you prayer the Sunday collect the entire week until the next Sunday, or Holy Day.
Appreciate this. I am a Catholic in Shanghai. I found an Anglican priest from the US of your tradition who led an awesome congregation with some solid catechism classes. I learned quite about and began to appreciate the BCP 2019 edition from the process and was drawn to it as a Catholic.
I was baptized into the Anglican Church 75 years ago as a baby and am a lifelong practicing Anglican. No matter how much I read the Bible or BCP I find there is always something new to learn. This video has been most helpful. Thank you.
Thank you. I am new to the Anglican Church coming from a Methodist. I am drawn to the BCP so that I will use it to improve my lacking prayer life.
Do you still offer these booklets?
I would like to help. How do I help?
Thank you for this video. I am a curious Charismatic searching for some liturgy
We have several charismatics (including my husband who is our priest and me) in our parish. We love the liturgy as it has brought us to what we would consider. “a deeper conversion”. Blessings as use the prayer book. It’s changed our lives!
Thank you!!!
One of the simplest ways to determine the cycle year is to add the digits of the calendar year and see if they are divisible by three. If it is divisible by three, then it is “Year C.” Once you figure that out, the rest of the years are easy to determine. Here is 2019 to use as an example. 2 + 0 + 1 + 9 = 12. Since 12 is divisible by 3, 2019 is “Year C.” This means that 2020 will be “Year A,” since it is a three-year cycle. However, its important to note that the liturgical year begins in Advent. As a result, the 2020 liturgical year started in December 2019. what about this? is it correct or not?
Thank you so much!!
Love this. Thanks for posting.
This is the best video on the book of common prayer’s , I have seen so far. I am new to the BCP and Anglican church. Thank you!
Besides reading the Psalms, I want to sing the Psalms as I do the Daily Office from home. Where can I find an online directory, website or CD with the Psalms being sung at home so that I may learn to sing them as I do the Daily Office?
I have the same desire to sing the Psalms.
You could take one of the simple tones and use it to chant all of the Psalms. Are you familiar with any of the tones?
Nice presentation. Can you point me where to get the PDF version of the Book of Common Prayer that you are displaying?
ACNA 2019 PDF bcp2019.anglicanchurch.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/BCP2019.pdf
U don't need it. Pray according to you needs and heart using scriptures
We do "need" it. It is not necessary for salvation but it is an important part of Anglican identity. It's just about the only thing that unites this quite divided church. To throw out the prayerbook in either private or congregational practice is to neglect to participate in the Anglican communion.
I sure hope that you don’t sing songs that other people have composed. Just sing your own made up.songs. 😅
Very useful, thank-you
Very Helpful!! I have the 1979 version (I think) given to me upon my baptism but never really used. Are the principles in this video basically the same? I'd like to use it. Or would it make more sense to order a newer copy? Thoughts?
As an Anglican I would suggest you get the 2019 BCP. It’s based on the 1662 prayer book which is considered the standard version. The 2019 version has updated language. I’m on my second book as my husband and I pray the Daily Office which is 4 times a day so the book gets lots of use! Having this daily rhythm of prayer and scripture reading has transformed our lives. We have been Anglicans for about 10 years and feel like we have come into what we would call “a deeper conversion“. May the Lord bless you as you pursue following Jesus in this very rich tradition of Anglicanism.

We need internet ministry.
Thanks for the note, James! You are right. Jesus went where the people were. Today people are on the internet. We seek to proclaim the gospel to all and in all places!
@@anglicancompass9943 Welcome. Blessings.
Helpful!
This is the ACNA, Anglican Church of North America, which is a breakaway group. They are not member of the Anglican Communion.
That's a good thing, given how woke and unbiblical they are at the top!
@@nicolapicola4502 Really? How so?
Very helpful!
Thank you for having us!
I am a Roman Catholic. I was drawn to Personal Ordinariate's bcp, book of Divine Worship. There i found out about daily office but it was overwhelming. Thank God an internet tutorial helped me navigating daily office using 1979 episcopal bcp. It is not as daunting as it was.
This is not the 1979 BCP it is the 2019 BCP. He is not an Episcopalian, he is Anglican which is a break-away group from the main Episcopal church.
Hi Wilbur, just wanted to clarify here. I don’t think Alethea was saying that this was an Episcopal priest or the 1979 BCP. I think they were just describing their experience Also Anglicans are not a break away from the Episcopal church. It’s actually the other way around. Hope this helps! Peace!
Some time in April of 2022, Anglican Liturgy Press will be releasing an abridged version of The Book of Common Prayer 2019. In this prayer book, most of all the sections that are unused by laypeople will be removed leaving behind the "bread and butter" for daily use. If you want to learn more about this book, watch this link's video ua-cam.com/video/7nGr84bvXwk/v-deo.html
This was so helpful! Thank you I am new to the Episcopal church and don’t really understand what is going on. This helped a lot.
Thanks for posting. Some of what you said here helped me in navigating the publication "The booke of common prayer, and administration of the sacraments : and other parts of divine service for the use of the Church of Scotland" from 1636.
Thank you so much for this very helpful video and the booklets. I have been feeling a call back to orderly confessions since the death of my mother and seeing her church which is neither anglican or denominational yet they have a liturgical order that reminded me of my past in an Episcopal turned Anglican Church. Additionally this month, June 2021 Tabletalk magazine from Ligonier ministries was titled The Confessing Church. I appreciate your thorough explanations and suggestions.
Just what I needed as a new Episcopalian. Thank you so much!
flummoxed!
When praying the Office by oneself, should the invitation to the confession be read (i.e. "Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God")? Also, in the opening versicles and responds, what should be done at: "Praise the Lord. The Lord's Name be praised."? And then later, after the Apostle's Creed: "The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.... etc."? And the last part: "Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God."? Are these parts of the Office simply skipped? Or are they modified in some way?
The General Confession can only be one by an ordained priest. Overall, 1662 is not designed for solo worship, but is to be used within the church environment. Versicles and responses luck everywhere!
Hi How do I get one of your booklets Thanks
Awesome, thanks for the video! You briefly mentioned it in the video, But how do you go through the Bible every two years using the book of common prayer 2019 edition?
2019? Over here in England we're still happily using 1662 in all its glory :-)
@@paulcaswell2813 Lucky you!!!!!!! The American prayerbooks since 1928 are terrible liturgy and theology!!!!!!!!
@@paulcaswell2813 What I've read is that while the 1662 edition still legally holds the title of being the official book of prayer there are many supplements that have been produced over the years that have drawn favour.
The 2019 bcp was published by acna for their use. Other anglican groups in north america still use their own bcp's.
this is a very belated response to your question from three years ago. Hopefully you’ve already started using this wonderful tool. You can use the prayer book to move through The Old and New Testament every two years by praying the morning prayer schedule the first year and the evening prayer schedule the second year. If you use the daily office as laid out, you’ll read through the Old Testament once, and the New Testament twice. It has been organized such that morning.prayer will take you through half of the Old Testament and all of the New Testament and evening prayer will take you through the remainder of the Old Testament and fully through the New Testament. Blessings as you do this!
This is very helpful! Thank you so much for your contribution to the Kingdom of God!!! Be encouraged.
Thank you made it so I understand more where can I get your pamphlets
This is the best video on the BCP I have seen thus far. I am totally new to the BCP and Anglican church. My head was spinning for days until I received your booklets in my email yesterday and now seeing this video. Thank you!
Thanks, Dylan! Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you for posting the this. It’s good to share with people in our congregations so that they are encouraged to organize their lives around prayer in homes and families.
Dylan, the 1928 is much simpler, and uses classical language. :)
@@hughmccann919 1662 is best muhuhuahahahahahaha :)
