And most amusing of all ... you say "in Scotland, Great Britain". Well ... if you are such a hardcore Scotsmen who says anything Gaelic is automatically Scottish, and never Irish, then your Scottish honor should be even more offended by throwing Great Britain in there :D

1 - True, Dougie MacLean is indeed a Scot, not Irish. 2 - The "original" language of Ireland is ... Gaelic 3 - Ireland and Scotland both have a form of Gaelic as their heritage language 4 - Both are members of the (in Scottish) cànanan Goidhealach, the Gaelic group of languages 5 - The Latin word Scotti, refering to "the Scots", 5th century, was used for a Goidelic tribe that inhabited Ireland 6 - Since "The Gael" pertains to a person of "Gaelic descent" it does very much also pertain to Irish.

It was written in 1990 by Dougie MacLean and is called the Gael .Written about Loch Ness in Scotland. Dougie explains this himself as per the quote below Can you tell us a little about how you came to write "The Gael" ? Dougie: I wrote the song for the Loch Ness Monster Centre-- it was a commission for them. The monster in the loch goes way back to ancient Gaelic myths of seahorses (kelpies), and to write this little tune, I imagined a Gaelic community on the banks of Loch Ness, believing in such myths, and I thought about how real that would have been to them. I wrote several songs for “The Search,” the CD that contains “The Gael” and other songs about Loch Ness, including a song about the vigils on the loch in the 1960s. At the time I got right into the whole Loch Ness monster thing. I’m fascinated by man’s search for myth, and I was inspired by thinking of the Gaels back in ancient times, waiting for the monster to appear.
