Lake Manatee State Park
Rather unassuming as you drive by, but I think this is an under-the-radar kind of place.

A haven for birds, a popular fishing hole, and an amazing little trail system.
Brand new! Bellini Preserve
Переглядів 152Місяць тому
639 acres of prime Lake Marion waterfront property - once at-risk of destruction for suburban sprawl - are now permanently protected. Conservation Florida, a dynamic driver of land conservation in Florida, joined with six dedicated conservation partners, including the Bellini Family, Polk County Natural Lands and the Department of Defense, to conserve a key piece of the Florida Wildlife Corrido...
Hidden Away: Old Miakka Preserve
Переглядів 91Місяць тому
Old Miakka Preserve is a rare remnant of longleaf pine forest and Florida scrub, most of which has been lost in Sarasota County. Just around the corner is Florida Native Plants Nursery & Landscaping where I found a few more additions to my Butterfly garden. Check it out if you're ever in the area! www.conservationfoundation.com/old-miakka-preserve/
Woodpecker feeding! Brooker Headwaters Preserve
Переглядів 82Місяць тому
From a few months ago, before the rainy season had a chance to flood the trails. Super excited to find ALL trails dry and walkable, and to witness this cute moment with a woodpecker feeding a sub-adult. hcfl.gov/locations/brooker-creek-headwaters-nature-preserve
Lost Places: Maynard Mine
Переглядів 137Місяць тому
Trekking through the Green Swamp Wilderness I stumbled upon .... an abandoned limestone mine! Even though the water looks inviting I've since been told that it's teeming with Gators. It's also allegedly a popular fishing hole with the locals. myfwc.com/recreation/cooperative/green-swamp/

Bell Creek Nature Preserve
Переглядів 912 місяці тому
Bell Creek Nature Preserve is a window to Florida’s vanishing landscapes. An abandoned paved road cutting through the preserve outlines just how close this property was to development. At the last minute, the project was halted and 470 acres are now preserved. hcfl.gov/locations/bell-creek-preserve
Brooker Creek Preserve
Переглядів 1522 місяці тому
Several prior trips to Brooker Creek Preserve were all cut short by most of the trails completely under water. This time it was very different, and I was able to explore the 4 mile loop in its entirety. Despite the urban environment and relatively short distance, this trail is definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Potts Preserve Camping
Переглядів 983 місяці тому
Potts Preserve provides lots of level space for primitive camping near the river with beautiful hiking trails, maintained by the Suncoast Chapter of the FTA. No drinking water on-site, and only one port-a-potty. Group camping possible for a rather large group. Make sure you bring your kayak! www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/recreation/potts-preserve

Nice! It looks like a good place to fish
I saw a UFO at 1:20! Kidding....great stuff, thanks for sharing
@@wgm4471 we have lots of those 😉
Medard is a nice little park, not many miles but fun things to do there.
@@813kengarcia it’s got something for everyone ☺️
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video! 👏🏼 Greetings from a Swedish youtuber! 🇸🇪
new camera...it seems like really good high resolution on this video?
Always enjoyed your hikes. Do you have a Facebook page?
@@FredericBonneauPhotography Instagram! @antsy_does
@@antsy_doesthank you. It would be nice to at least know your first name.
Thanks Alex! You are opening our eyes to many new outdoor opportunitiies. I am a big supporter of the Florida Wildlife Corridor! They are scoring some huge wins for Florida conservation these days!
very interesting..I am somewhat familiar with that area but I have never heard of this preserve before..btw the soundtrack is nice too!
was the preserve once a cattle ranch looks like cattle bone segments?
@@hikewithmike4673 I’m thinking a big pig but perhaps cattle? Not sure.
wow!...I have never heard of this place!.....awesome to have new preserves for wildlife corroidors..fight for the Wild!
Support the Florida Wildlife Corridor!
That a very extremely beautiful park I wanna go there and explore it and go camping there and get videos and pictures
Just checked my photo files. Haven’t been there since April 2017. Best I can figure, I spotted it on my way back to Sebring from Celery Fields visit. I may have to put it on my list to re-visit after the current rainy season.
i found a georeferenced pdf map of the preserve on the sarasota county website and downloaded it. looks like it works in the avenza maps app, which will show your location and also records your path.
I use Avenza a lot, maybe I will return. Thanks for the tip!!
Yay, this is the closest hike to me! Glad you found a quiet morning and saw quite a bit. It can get busy there. Lots of tortoises if you visit late in the day.
I saw maybe 2 other people on a Saturday morning. The heat definitely keeps most folks indoors :)
"I don't think this is the trail" love it!
beautiful video...I love that place especially when the wilderness trail is flooded..it is a great swamp walk
awesome!
the vegetation blowing in the breeze gave me the impression of a comfortable day temperature-wise...but i have to assume it was hot. how was it during your hike?
@@owlenfamily like a sauna.
Good timing on this one. Gotta be as dry as it ever gets.
@@AlafiaHiker It was. Probably not anymore 😄
Thank you. That was pleasant. I may try it one day.
right on!...fight for the wild...the urban sprawl is horrific!
I had the pleasure of helping to plant native species there recently. It's a beautiful preserve for sure!
That is awesome, thank you!
One of my favorite trails I love the wilderness trail it is usually nothing but swamp hiking which I love I am sure it is pretty dry these days without rain in awhile
It was super dry. Probably not anymore!
Nice video. How were the mosquitoes?
@@jpcarlyle3920 Almost none on that particular day. Probably much different today.
beautiful place!....I heard the night sky there is amazing very little light pollution...definitely gonna camp there one of these days!
Oh I bet there some moccasins out there, cool stuff!
Probably some snakes out there for sure :)
what a lovely spot!
Really enjoy your videos. You capture the beauty of a walk/hike in nature.
Every vid that you post is excellent.
The vehicle reminded me of an old pup wood truck!
Pulp wood truck, use to see a lot of them
Very nice video! My last time there was Easter weekend 2021. It is a lovely place. Next camping & hiking season we shall return!
Nice video... Beautiful spot. Airboats need mufflers!!
you were up in my neck of the woods!
Beautiful photos of local flora.....looks like your hike leader didn't always know where he was going.....
It’s always an adventure!
That's funny how you caught the crows fending off or picking on the hawk.
I really enjoy the day hikes that you film.....There is so much natural beauty in Florida that is worth taking the time to explore!!😎
Agreed :)
Me and my buddies have camped there many times...nice place!
Wow. Gorgeous trail. I don't know how i missed that one. I thought I'd done all the trails in Lake Wales. I didn't see any bear signs on the others 🤔. Luckily i had my faithful protection, chihuahua hiking partner with me.
Looks like a nice place for a small groip to hike and camp......just gotta find someone who's been there to take us......
I might know someone…..
another place on my bucket list to hike and camp at!
Man you find all the good spots!
nice video. were all the trails you hiked at this preserve double tracks and firebreaks?
Pretty much.
I really like the close-ups you get.
Love the wild flowers!
Cool another place I need to visit beautiful video!
I was just there in March! Did a short out and back from the Crooked River campground and loved the large and beautiful oak trees with their winding branches! Nice job on your videography ❤
You are very good at capturing your hiking experience. Thank you for sharing!
What a cool trip. I spent the weekend out there in February, it was fun.
That is the right time to go, it gets hot out in the prairie!
About a year ago they did a prescribed burn there. There were so many animal tracks and we kept hearing wild pigs in the distance.
beautiful opening shots
Water can be a problem out there, curious to see how you all handled it. Nice video!
Oak Grove has a (currently) working well pump for water supply. 'The Honore campsite is dry, no pump, but we had a special trail angel stash some water for us. Aside from that, we had several very wet spots on trail. You COULD filter from those sources....
@@antsy_does nice! I camped in Myakka a few weeks back and it was dry. The campsites I passed didn't't have working pumps either. So I'm glad you all were good and look forward to the next videos!
