I will continue with an experiment with the birds after there Adult molt with a more Intense Training and Feeding method this may encourage a change in song or is it Genetic ?.

Hi Everyone. The Nesting season is approaching birds nearing breeding condition. I must say that my birds have been on a fairly high Carb diet and lots of greens. The lighting has been dim though not fully Dark. The song is not as low or as slow in Tempo as it could be!. My main objective is to have birds that do sing freely when uncovered with a well balanced Roller repertoire!!! This journey ...

Hello all welcome back :-) this is my bird of choice. The Roller can sing it`s song in 3 registers, High Medium & Low being the best. This bird as with all my Roller Cock birds have been trained to voice there song using light as the trigger command ! he has been fed a Top Flite canary seed mix he is a little faster in his song !. I know by earlier videos of this bird from being kept in a darke...

SCHOCKEL; This song passage is Sister Tour to Hollow Bell, only delivered with ground sounds of O or U and Consonant H being heard very Lightly before the Vowels O or U. Such as HO-HO-HO- or HU-HU-HU. Very Similar to a person giving a deep laugh.

How your are fine I have a water canary what should I give him in mix seed and soft food
Hello thank you for your question, I would say with our song birds we try to keep the birds at a stage of song to retain depth and flow ! . As with Roller canaries I feed a Canola Rape seed and canary seed mix of 60% Canola oil seed and 40% plain canary seed , you have to decide by listening to the song you are hearing from your birds if the bird is pushing , forcing his song to hard then reduce the carbo hydrates = Canary seed ! to a lower percentage more canola seed !. Also keep in mind feeding treats or soft foods of high proteins well bring the bird into a higher health condition = Breeding condition. Very well done. Recording I find dark but I know that you would be getting even poorer sounds if they were trained and sung in good light. They are singing the whole time, not the usual six minutes of silence broken by the odd weird attempt at noise. You have given an honest appraisal that no one else would dare give. According to the standards as I understand them your scoring levels tell a very honest story that the serious fancier could easily agree with. Congratulations on the journey that these birds have taken you on. I hope for a better future.
Thank Trev. Yes I have done the best I can weeding out the bad from good. Now I will use what birds I have to create hopefully better Rollers Song in the future.
Anyone from the NZRCC watching this, would you say that this is the Standard of Song being sung at the Shows now days ?. I would be very interested to see some of the Scores sheets that are being given out.

I am glad you made your comments. Not glad you had to but glad that you made recognition of the problems. These are canaries singing their impression of song but much of it does not fit into the desires of roller canary song even though portions are definitely roller canary based. Nothing a roller sings should jar the ear. Mellow and deep is good, sharp and high is not good. I definitely could not fall asleep in front of these birds. I believe you can in front of quality rollers.
Thanks Trevor , yes it's been a journey of discovery since I finally have bred birds to listen to. I agree a Slow Low toned song is what we desire ! we can achieve that by breeding deep birds & help with the training that we do with the birds , diet and light bein most important. One main problem is most NZ Roller fanciers have no idea about the Song and lack of breeding expertise has led to a wishy wash of Rolls and Tours. We know that in the late 1980s to 1990s allot of the birds were over ridden with too much Water in song that destroyed the Rolls and Tours clarity!. Now there is a Discombobulation of Rolls and Tours to sort out!!.

As you can hear the bottom bird has Two Flute notes one after the other "high low" are heard clearer when ennunciation is slowly rendered!. Straight Hollow Rolls, Hollow Bell , Gluck and Water Gluck, Water Rolls are well defined and near "Deep Bubble" at times! Singular Deep Flutes are great to hear too. Nice👍😎

Thank you. The main issue is lack of connecting tours Gluck Flutes Gluck Roll. Some of the Hollow Roll and Hollow Bell is ok but then is destroyed in a blast.
Maybe with a little more time and maturity they’ll have some gluck

I agree. This bird's delivery, as with most of your current videos indicate a good training method. Tones are good. Pace of delivery is good, mellowness is good, depth is good for NZ. This bird does have single, solid note delivery and remains with quietness in his delivery. Adult fully rounded and shaped sounds are delivered. Unfortunately, I am also hearing those problem sounds sitting on the outskirts. If they are there, singing him in darkness only, may tone them down, a little, but won't prevent then taking their place in the song if they were bred into the past stock. Sorry because I know how hard you have worked.
