Raleigh Caregiver Conference Testimonial
I remember a time as a teen living with my Grandparents and Grandma was getting her keys to go home. I told my Grandpa and he lovely got the dog and took her for a drive and then ice cream. ❤ Now it's my mom sadly and I talk to her calmly and with the understanding. I don't lie to her. I do agree with her especially if she has a bad day, or she has seen "the bad guy" I once slept on the foot of her bed for about a month, because of "him". Sometimes it is like how mom would comfort me as a child. I never fuss at her or make her feel small. ❤
I find that taking agaricus and belladonna homeopathic remedies in 200 dose very good for what you call, parkinsons, lewy body? syndrome. Unfortunately nhs don,t agree thats why many patients die.
This was absolutely amazing information. Thank you for being so clear and explaining this information in a way that is tangible for those of us who are struggling to get help for our mom. ❤
Thank you so much
Andrea's story took me down Memory Lane with my 28-year leadership history as Board President and then Executive Director of the Eastern NC Alzheimer's Chapter, which became Alzheimer's NC and now Dementia Alliance. Her story covered continuing programs of years ago and new programs and services begun under the leadership of Heather, and Staff, some of whom walked daily with me to insure the best, individualized services were provided for families. Andrea shares the many heartaches of caregivers as they struggle to care for the person they love and as a daughter once told me, "When my Mom died, I had to say goodbye to 2 people, the one I had known before Alzheimer's and the one I loved and cared for due to Alzheimer's." Andrea and her Mother were loves to know and I appreciate her remembering our generous and good friend, Laura Gaddis. Through years of had work by Laura and her family at Guardian Angel Thrift, millions in restricted funding through the Eastern NC Chapter, Alzheimer's NC and Dementia Alliance were provided to researchers at NC Universities and family respite. I have not forgotten you, Andrea, and the thousands who crossed my path during those years as we learned best practices together. To those who might read this comment, it is the "individualized" care and programs designed to assist that I am most proud of, along with the loyal staff and Heather's leadership of Dementia Alliance of NC. Share with friends and help the staff of Dementia Alliance to continue its outreach to individuals diagnosed and the many more who are caring for them. Alice W. Watkins
My 80 year old mother, who is an MD herself, has MCI. She does not accept her condition and gets medical help. I decided to invite one of her well-respected colleagues to persuade her about her condition. Bad idea?
Very good information. Thank you
So far, it has been my experience that neurologists don't seem to acknowledge what they don't know. Mine have glossed over the topic. They seem to wait until someone is at least moderately impacted by Dementia Thus, a friend" is being treated by a Psychiatric PA, who is supervised by a prominent Psychiatrist.
Wonderful suggestions
Is there a link to learn about support groups in NC?
So happy to have found this video!! Our family is experiencing our Mom having delusions and hallucinations that are increasing and concerning. We’ve not been able to find any resources on how to help her! Her hallucinations are of bugs and being infested (also believes her dog is infested and dying of the bugs) creating so much distress for her.
P r o m o S M 🙂
EXTREMELY HELPFUL UNDERSTANDING THE SYMPTOMS!
As a 58 yrs old Lewy Body Dementia patient ( began about age 56) the anxiety is through the roof!! I also have apathy and memory loss(unable to keep current memories)
No my mom hears clear words!
Delusions
What about auditory hallucinations? Hearing people a lot?
My mother is in stage 4 she still walk but when going long distances we use wheelchair for better transport. She does not rarely interact with us, she keeps her eyes opened. We make all decisions for her. I want to go somewhere but my husband thinks it’s not a good idea feel mother will act up
Very informative. Thank you

Are there any Seminars out there that offer a stimulated class for families to experience dementia? I attended twice in Raleigh, NC at the McKinnon Center.
Yes, the "Virtual Dementia Tour" is offered by a few groups in the area. Two are Spring Arbor and Medi Home Health and Hospice.
There's nothing that can be done anyway so what does it matter. You will end up warehoused in a nursing home lying in your own $hit and pi$$ unable to feed yourself with nobody to care. I've seen it with my own eyes.
thank you
Doctors are only educated to treat patient not cure them if you are suffering from any kind of virus or diseases contact on the link below ua-cam.com/channels/BxxkQLLSmvHYtvlGe1C2wQ.html .
This was great! Thank you so much! I really needed to hear/see this information!
Thanks, Melanie, for your excellent suggestions. I'm a bit fearful of trying to travel with my loved one with dementia, but your hints make is less scary.
I am so proud to call that my man my uncle Mike
Beautiful interview. So much knowledge on how to adjust to managing this process. Love his mantra " anything else is unacceptable". I have been where you are. I know you must adapt to the process and not just give orders and expect good results. Your attitude towards this situation will continue to help you to be a success .
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mike I learn a lot from this interview thank you brother 🙏🏾
Mike is a gentle spirit, a wonderful dancer. He and his Mom are truly blessed😘

Michael is a great caregiver and a very humble and loving man
As a caregiver for my mom I enjoyed this and was thankful for it. I am also sharing this through our NAMI MC mailing list because there is definitely overlap with other brain issues and those who care for family members with mental illness.
Thank you.
Thank you, Dr. Bateman and the Dementia Alliance for your excellent comprehensive presentation. Reassuring to know that caring, outstanding individuals are out there trying to better our lives.
Great information and techniques!
Very good examples in her presentation.
Thanks for doing this video! Very helpful and good conversation at the end.
Thank you for all you are doing.
Very happy to find this channel. I work with caregivers who support people with dementia. This is a great resource for them. They can view it over and over again. I am grateful.
You supported me for 28 years in building one of the best Alzheimer's and related dementia educational and programming organizations in the State as Alzheimer's North Carolina, now Dementia Alliance. In this critical time, please support Heather and her team of wonderful support specialists and the many volunteers who always give and do so much. By working together, we will get through this crisis. Thank you, Alice
Great idea! Thanks!!
