Beeen using this camera for about 4 years and I still don’t know if I should “upgrade”
@@eclipseshadowyt5917 still using it to this day since making this video! Haha totally up to you and what you’re looking for/what your reasons for upgrading would be 🙏🏻
this was dope, them slow shutter shots are fire
Jared Cookin ! Go head chef
It's time for film, buddy. Portra, Tri-X, HP5.
Yeahhh I haven’t shot film in a little bit because of the cost to keep it up 😅 but you do bring up a good point…film would work great with this workflow since it would be a separate camera
Thanks for the info bro. Great pics!
Man, those images of the Upper West Side brings back memories! Love your work!
Thank you man!! 🙏🏻 did you live there? Its such a beautiful part of the city
@ Was an intern at the Museum of Natural History in 1985. Got a first hand look there.
Regarding the R7 keep in mind while it is a versatile camera it's far from a top end machine The main issue for NY would be it's relatively poor dynamic range (relative to the canon cameras above it) in low light.
Thanks for the feedback, yeah I think the R7 falls right in the range budget wise for what I want to spend at the moment and imagine it’ll be a big enough jump from the T7. The two main cameras I’m thinking about are the R7 or Fuji XT-5, but Fuji would require all new lenses as well. Definitely have some thinking and research to do 🙏🏻
Hi Buddy. I have never made a UA-cam video so maybe I am talking trash but is the quality of the B roll that important? Surely the images you take are the main part of the video. I follow other UA-camrs who shoot all the B roll on the GoPro just to pack out the space between the images they show. Maybe the issue goes away if you are not focussed on the video so much.
You’re definitely right about this 🙏🏻 it depends on the way you want the video to look but I’m thinking now that it may be more of a workflow issue than anything. Changing the way I think about filming these videos specifically and focusing more on broll for the more subject based videos where I can focus solely on filming. That may end up being a video on its own once I iron out the process haha I appreciate the feedback!
New York looks like hell on earth to live there, but to photograph that's another story. When will we have transporters 😂
Nah it's cool. It's only annoying if you're not accustomed to the culture (we move fast) and if you cant afford it (which is just about anyone's complaint). But most people don't want to live in Manhattan we are mostly in other boroughs and commute in when needed.
😂 It is certainly not for everyone, but such a special place to be, especially with a camera 🙏🏻
At B&H, a Canon R50 kit (18-45mm) would cost you $700 and the kit with both lenses (plus 55-210mm) would cost you $900. It’s a smaller, unobtrusive camera but because of its low profile, it’s easily a photographer’s camera. The only drawback is its size; it’s pretty small. Make the time and check it out - compare it ($-wise) to your choice of the R7. Btw, check out these 2 books to spark your creativity: Find Your Frame by Craig Whitehead and The Meaning in the Making: The Why and How Behind Our Human Need to Create by Sean Tucker - your fellow UA-camr. Should you make the trip to B&H or any other store for the Canon R series cameras, make sure to ask them about attaching a different lens other than the Canon R series lenses. Good luck!
Really appreciate the feedback 🙏🏻🙏🏻 it’s funny because I was actually looking at the R50 recently! I hadn’t heard of it but it does look like a nice, compact option, and a way to stay within the canon ecosystem. Definitely going to check out those books as well, I remember seeing the Sean Tucker one and being intrigued so this was a good reminder. Certainly have some research to do on my next move and excited to see whatever it ends up being. Thanks so much! 🙏🏻
It is a real issue also to me: I work usually with my Olympus Pen for street photography and using the M200 for videos and some photos. But is still a struggle. I have also the Canon T7.. but since I am focused also on videos is not easy to decide.
Aghh yeah it’s definitely tough, I’m thinking now it might be more of a workflow issue to resolve and smooth out, maybe changing the way I think about filming these specifically and focusing more on broll for the more subject based videos where I can focus solely on video. That may end up being a video on its own down the line once I iron it out 🙏🏻
The best camera is the one you have with you (can’t remember who said this!) if you are willing to come to the dark side then have a butchers at the Sony a7iii
Absolutely right!! Couldn’t agree more. “The dark side” 😂 one of the reasons I definitely would like to stay with canon is so that I can adapt all my lenses, and also just love the color and shooting experience. I think the issue is more my workflow than anything! After using my phone to film for a year and realizing how much I love filming with a camera instead. Too many lenses and cameras to switch between haha I’ll definitely figure it out as I go along 🙏🏻
Loved this "behind the scenes" look at your videos/photos and your process! Your passion really shines through and is a joy to watch!
Aghh thanks so much Lisa!! I love sharing as much of the journey as I can when it comes to figuring this all out. Means a lot to hear 😌🙏🏻
Love this video so much! Clicked right away. And enjoyed 100% of it!
Means a lot to hear 😌🙏🏻 appreciate you!!
Oh, another thought or two on videos/stills, when I shoot stills, I want to shoot that and not think about it. When I want to make a film, I think about the camera a bit more. I've got a Fuji X-T5 that I love (the dials and knobs), but the new Fuji XM5 is kind of a "vlogger" minded camera. But to manage BOTH during a walk around? I wouldn't.
@@ChrisBrogan that’s exactly it 😅 explains it well and this brings up a good point, I could be trying to do too much with this style of video as well. I only bring one lens out with me when I shoot street as it is because having options puts me in turmoil haha definitely have some more thinking to do but for now, still love the experience of taking photos with this canon and pancake lens
@@winslow_j RIGHT. See, so if you're LIKING shooting on your Canon, then embrace it. It's cool. But if you're feeling like, "Oh no, too many things to manage," then make the video less important. :)
Hi all! Wanted to pop in after the fact to share a disclaimer: I love making these "day of street photography" videos, and will definitely continue to do so, it's just a matter of figuring out a workflow that excites me as opposed to creates friction. My current set up WORKS, has worked and will continue to. Still love taking photos with my T7i as well. Just not feeling excited to film with my phone like I've been, and being/feeling excited to use your gear is important, and very important to me. That's all (:
Don’t worry we FEEL the love in every video ❤
@@ChichBolt🥲😌🙏🏻
I have the Canon R8 and I really don't like it. It takes forever to review photos - the file is smaller than the Ricoh files but it takes so much longer to preview. Also, the body of the camera is basically a plastic shell. The risk of it breaking from falling is much higher than their previous models. I have the Canon EOS 7D and that is much better performance-wise and with it's build.
@@danicee very interesting…that’s one thing I love about my T7i now is the build quality. It feels durable/solid in your hands and even after a couple accidental drops over the years, it’s survived. Been contemplating this for a while and will still be using this camera until its last day, but I’ll have more research/testing to do
It's been really good seeing how you have grown as a person and photographer over the last year. Your photography has just taken off with the quality of the images you are now producing and I am glad you can also see this in yourself. Keep moving on up!!!
Aghhh this means a lot 😌🙏🏻 thanks so much!! So awesome to have you here for the journey, excited to keep it going. Thanks for being here!

Autumn is truly a season of beauty, reflection and change. It can also be tough for those people that celebrate Thanksgiving by themselves or dread the upcoming cold, winter days. Howdy Jared. Very nice video and your voice si very pleasant to listen to your narration. I was sure hoping to get to NYC before the end of the year but it does not look as if it will be possible. Hopefully it will be possible by March as I want to get winter pics in Central Park, Manhattan, Queens and I also want to get to D.C. area to get pics of some snow covered ground at Arlington Natonal Cemetary. amazing, do you film this POV with a GOPRO?
Actually, this looks pretty tame to me. Not at all what I would expect for NYC. We must be nuts in Chicago, lol
@@jessehavok4181 no wayyy 👀 may have to check out a Chicago Halloween one day
Great video and you are right you need to shake it up and also maybe just shoot something different as well. Go out with the intention of just shooting portraits, signs, posters, bright colour etc. An ongoing project I have is to shoot things that have been left/lost on the street. It's amazing how many new images you can get if you are just focussed on one thing rather than shooting everything 😃
That's such a good idea!! Maybe that can be a video I do soon...giving myself an intention or a photo assignment to focus on for a day while I'm out shooting. That's a great topic you have as well! I can imagine how differently it must make you look at the street while you're out and about. Everything has a story if we're looking for it!

Great musical choices! And Chich looked majestic in that light. You all did. What a wonderful project, JW. You did it again!
Got lucky with finding the perfect songs I was looking for 😌🙏 and we got lucky with some great weather and light, it was such a beautiful morning. Thank you Chris!!
Another great natural vlog, the 3 Amigos 😂 you all looked so happy, always good to shake things up now and again, can’t believe you’ve been there 18mths and never walked the Brooklyn bridge though!!!!! 😮
Love that we've been dubbed the 3 amigos 😂 it was such a fun and beautiful morning. Seriously though!! Me either! I had been under it for the brooklyn flea so many times and around the area, but just one of those things that never happened
Maybe you'll realize you're a morning person :-) Waking up super early to watch the sunrise is simple but so uplifting. Plus, the city is quieter, offering a different vibe for unique photos.
That's kinda what I've been thinking lately! I've known myself as a night owl forever but it hasn't been serving me as well lately, you can get so much more done by being up earlier and exactly as you said, the city is so calm and feels so different, it's definitely been nice waking up earlier and un unexpected shift that I didn't know I needed haha
lets go

If your t7i is a croped sensor it would be 24mm right not 40mm?
@@yaruishangjagoi2304 because of the crop sensor, it multiplies the focal length by 1.6, so it turns the 24 into a 38! So just about a 40
@@winslow_j so will it be ALSO!! be a 40mm equivalent on a mirrorless croped sensor camera?
@ so unfortunately it won’t fit on a mirrorless camera unless you have an EFS-RF mount adapter! But if you do have one of those, then yes it will also be a 40mm equivalent on a cropped mirrorless camera!
congratulations, from former New Yorker.
That shot at 3:15 is insane 🔥
