CPHS Letterette Dance Routine Competition
Thanks for the share. Class of ‘69

Why did the letterettes stop so early with their routine. They had a way to go before they were out of the competition zone. At 14:09 it shows where the comp zone is over and they stop so early. I think this is what effected them at maytime. No doubt the best ID unit of all time.
Beautiful

Good times doing extra stuff. Wasn't Poway at this event too?? I was just telling my wife recently about going down to B100 to play in the studio with Jeff and Jer and Tommy Sablan. We really were "that" good 👍
Poway was there as well.
wow the best
I was a trumpet player for dell bangle, and I use to see the letterrets practice on the parking lot on saturdays ,, they were performers on top of the game
Dude. It's on. I'm going to be the director of Gold DBC next year. Move back.
They're playing "Glorious Victory"... Very well too
WHAT
Loved this show.
what a great time to grow up.... no cell phones, no internet, people played outside and hung together out running the streets, guns were not a common occurrence among teens... TACO BELL food was bomb....
It really was an amazing time. Magical times growing up in Chula Vista. I live in Miami now but those times hold a special place in my heart.
Man I was in that crowd..I’m old
A mere 46 years ago I was a drummer in that band. Good times!
Brian! How are you??
nobody ever recorded the flags :(
what year is this, 91 92?
This was 90-91…Washington Grays march.
Looking back at this almost feels like a production scene for a film because you just don’t see or experience this these days. Look at the crowds, listen to them cheer, the display of friendly competitiveness and dedication from the performers, the patriotic banners on the nearby buildings and just the community coming together. Absolutely awesome. Definitely a different world back then. At the time, with the absence of technology we have today, if it wasn’t a day at the beach, a family gathering, out with friends, or tuning into an episode of MASH or MacGyver, we looked forward to events like this and I’m glad to have been a part of it!!!!
Me too. It’s rare when people come together for anything nowadays and be in the moment. Those days were special.
March: Allied Honor
My first and only TOC street & field competition. Believe we got 4th place, which at the time I think was our best finish ever at that comp. Considering the other great schools, wasn’t to shabby. We put so many hours into learning the steps and music. Glad I was able to experience the Band life and appreciate all the hard work that goes into it.
alright I was a young trumpet player for cpmob fun times with mr del bangle
CPHS at one time were some real bad A$$E$!!
Nice Andrew!
Fluffies!
Wavingup my peace sign.
When was Del Bangle’s first year?
im current student of eric mabrey, bangle's first year was i believe 1981-82! the stories that i have heard from both mabrey and bangle himself are always entertaining to listen to

What was the competition March for the 86-87 year?
@@bdfan4ever right we did Army of the Nile , king Karl king, barnums circus and one other but I am trying to remember what order .
@@tareneraven3571 thanks for the reply!!! I lived in Chula Vista in that era. The Trojan band was so well known. I remember being in 6th grade and watching the fiesta de la Luna parade and even my parents telling me about the castle park band. Truly a marvelous time to be alive.

THE ANNOUNCER! BAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!
I’m in the minority here but this is my favorite castle park show. There’s something about the arrangements and non-linear drill from everything they had done up to that point. Through this show I discovered Andrew Lloyd Weber and JC Superstar is one of my favorite musicals of all time.
Why WAS the drill team disbanded?
According to Del Bangle, they didn’t do anything for the band score or the overall score for that matter. He did away with it somewhere in the late eighties from what I recall. The next to disband their drill team units in the Sweetwater District would probably be Chula Vista High School with 98 being the last time the Spartanettes did a parade. And from what I recall, Montgomery High was the last to feature a high school drill team unit. But I haven’t seen them in parade for a few years now.
@@kuxica some good bits there. Thank you!
Rare and Excellent Video! Priceless 📝 I'm sure! 😇
@@kuxicaspartanettes last maytime was in 97. Montgomery las aztecas last maytime was 98.
Now I know where some of my drill team routine came from when I learned it in 91, middle School lol
Brings back so many memories
Thank you for recording Parade too. What a rare treat!!
Can anyone with knowledge tell me how Castle did that day? Street and field and combined?
We took high music on the street and got like an 88 on the field. Our show sucked but our music made up the difference. This was definitely my favorite year playing lead with Eddie. I mean my senior year was super fun too, but we didn't play festive overture, we didn't play the great gate of Kiev... I mean sure. We played night on Bald mountain and Dvorak's. New World symphony, but fever was so much more fun to play, and the trio for the drum feature where we just made up harmonics for the theme to America from west side story, just to clown Poway. When we did one hand one heart the year before it was so much better than Poway did it in 1990 at TOC. In my humble opinion that is...
@@p.j.thomas7480 wow!! That 1989 field show, so about it: I saw you guys perform it at sweet water band pageant. I was in Chula Jr at the time. I can’t begin to tell you how awestruck I was. That show cemented why I love matching band. Chula HS and CP were like rockstars to me at such a young age. You guys had this INCREDIBLE aura and we all though you were just bad ass! Congratulations on being part of that. Ps: must have been amazing to win music sweeps over all those bands.
Wow!!!! Go Trojans!!!! Love it ❤️

Where is the drill team?
Dropped them at end of 1990 school year. Many schools were doing it. Various reasons.
@@andrewdt74 that's sucks. Even though they were apart of the showmanship from the year before that earned spot for the following year. Bummer
@@MarxBrown agreed. SCSBOA the adjudicators starting incorporating drill teams into overall scores. Bands were highly competitive and could not afford losing points due to drill teams. I always thought we should have kept them for school and local functions.
@@andrewdt74 I know exactly what your talking about. They should of made the drill teams work harder. Chula ended theirs in 97, Montgomery in 98. I got really familiar with everything since I continued after high school for 13-14 years non stop. I marched from 92-99 Montgomery jr. & HS. Went to CP for one semester 97. then did drum corps 99-03 aged out with Cavaliers. Marched A,open, and world class winter guard. 99-02 Caption head CG div 2 drum corps 04-05 And caption head CG senior drum corps 06-09 I know exactly how all of that stuff works lol. And then some. 😉
@@andrewdt74 it's a trip how the sweetwater districts bands have changed. It was so fun to be apart of the 90's generation
Great!
