Why is Phillip Johnson's architecture ugly? Surely that's a matter of opinion? Why is Pervitin 'a sin of the Weimar Republic' when it was invented in 1938 at the height of Nazi power? You've done a lot of research into the seedy details of the Berlin nightlife of the 1920's and early 30's but I don't see how exactly this is representative of the whole of the Weimar Republic? It feels a bit like someone trying to say 1970's New York represented the whole of the USA. You conclude by saying that things like 'aircraft factories were funded by the Nazi government instead of brothels and cabarets'- Isn't that stretching the facts? Surely any money spent on healthcare for prostitutes wouldn't have been anywhere near enough to cover the costs of funding an aircraft industry? - It just doesn't make mathematical sense- It literally doesn't 'add up!' You casually categorise homosexuals with pedophiles in your summary. Are you saying that homosexuals and the Weimar Republic in general were somehow implicated in the rise of the Nazis? If you are saying that, surely that's something that needs to be expanded upon because I'm not sure how they can be the 'victim' and 'complicit' simultaneously. Maybe I'm just over thinking the point your're trying to make and you are just simply saying 'the Nazis were a good thing!' It's not very clear. I find this film a very misleading essay with a lot of opinion presented as fact. Consequently it feels like you have some kind of agenda. One of the core themes of Nazi and fascist ideology generally is a reactionary stance to any kind of progressive thinking. Your film seems to have a similar stance. To me it comes across as pseudo intellectual rubbish that shows little or no 'objective' relationship to the research. Instead it is 'subjective' to the point of being creepy. There seems to be a preoccupation with the sexual practices of other people. This, coupled together with the judgmental tone of the narration makes it sound slightly kinky. I'm no psychiatrist so I'm not sure if its a sign of an authoritarian personalty or someone in denial about actually just 'getting off' on the salacious material.
