I bought one of these new around 1979, my first new bike. Although it wasn't as sprightly as the Suzuki and Yamaha 2 strokes it did around 15/16 thousand miles in two years before moving on. Cracking little bike.
@@Jones-xx2gc thanks for your comment 👍 yes great little bike 🏍 👍
Feel your pain with the powder coat Andy, been there a few times. Good to see the bike coming on so well, look forward to seeing the next instalment!
@@doconwheels-c5m thanks mate looking forward to seeing your ST project on you tube m8
Great video. Well done you 👏
@@JohnHarrison-it7wq thanks John
I had one from new in 1981. It was stolen. But the police asked me to go and identify it when they recovered it…………………..20 years later.🤣🤣🤣
@@scootjohn777 lol and was it yours?
Very informative well done mate.
@@williambinfield5966 thanks Bill 😊
Nice work Andy, yeah cleaning up parts is a pain. As you said, when you smarten up one bit, it makes the rest of the bike look worse! I need to invest in a powder coater...
@@Free_Ranger_CT110 lol I am Trying not to fall into the same trap Of cleaning 1 bit. And then the whole lot gets done lol .the Powder coating is A really good bit of kit 👌 It makes old bits look like new m8.
Holy hell, and I thought the centrifugal filter on my 86 XR200 caught a lot of junk! That’s good to know they work that well.

Where do you get your decals from and are they petrol proof? Restored mine with ones from eBay (Olimpiaparts). Seller from Italy and they arrived with printing errors but he wouldn't refund.

Check the cam chain tension and keep on top of it. I know from experience that those things have notoriously elastic cam chains.

very old and very cool bikes! i really like these Hondas and their restoration stories! thanks and good luck!

@@andyshondaxlsrestorations4733 So am I but I'd still have a go.
Good job Andy. I didn't know Harpic could remove rust. It seems to do a good job. I use white vinegar, but then you gotta neutralise the tank with bread soda after. That amount of wrap in tmyour tank is as good as having some one put sand in. 🙌
dont you just love honda's i dont have any honda bikes now but i have to 5th gen honda preludes
@@philoffhistree No honda cars for me just bike's And trusty bellingo m8 to move them.
good stuff that harpic i use it to dissolve the limescale and calcium from the rabbits littler tray and also good in the toilet as well, didn't know you could use it on rust, i use a strong mix a citric acid you can get a big bag for 5 quid
@@philoffhistree I am sure there is lots of things that will work m8 if you get the Heads up on it m8.
Brings back memories, I owned about a dozen of these, 185, 250 and 500 during late 80s and early 90s. I loved greenlaning on the little 185, weapon of choice due to weight and power. Restored quite a few and modified 185 motor in mono shock 125. Wouldn't mind picking one up as a resto and a C90 but prices seem high for what were £200 bikes back then?
@@jamesmacdonald3090 very true the day's of Give me fifty quid for it have long gone m8 now. More like give a grand for this Piece of s*** That Needs that much work It doesn't even make sense to restore it m8.
Harpic, that's a good trick, I've a rusty tank needs cleaning, I'll give the Harpic a go. If they sell it in Oz! I've an ultrasonic but it's 10l & sometimes too big, a little Aldi one would be good. But sorry Andy that clacking sound in the background is against the Geneva convention!
@@Free_Ranger_CT110 lol sorry m8 it's cold in the UK at the minute m8

@@MB_OutdoorsMT 👍thanks
You could use the supplied silencer to make it a bit quieter. Put it inline on the exhaust pipe inside of the shed below your shelf.
@@DMASync thanks for the idea I may do that.
Yo! So I would suggest a car battery is a better choice than a smaller motorbike size - mainly because after the initial burn up and fan on full as it starts up - draws about 12amps, then a steady 2-3am as it runs normally... so unless you charger is putting in more than you are charging - over time it might slowly get too low... i've had this problem myself so speaking from experience. (my first battery charger was charging at about 2.1amp.. but over the course of a month the charge of the battery was actually dropping not rechgarging) *I had it on a lot through winter so you have to take into account this constant draw of electrical power and the size of battery and storage you need. I went with a 110amph 12v, got a noco charger that outputs mopre charge than my cheaper halfords one... then added another 110aph battery, a ceramic bearing for the fan and currently trying to figure out - a way of making a small heater transfer pipe for the exhaust - so try reclaim that exhaust heat into a little underfloor heating.... Apologies for massive waffle!
@@WiLLiAMOnline thanks for your comment the bike battery was just to try it I am looking for a bigger battery at the moment to run it. Thanks for the tips.
@@andyshondaxlsrestorations4733 No problem.. *a few really good channels on youtube for anything diesel heater related, one is a guy in australia does a 12 part series on them (really interesting) and this guy has some fantastic videos on diesel heaters and a few mods and add ons you can do www.youtube.com/@DavidMcLuckie

Are you using a JIS screwdriver? I've had very few problems with new JIS screws and a JIS screwdriver. If you're using a philips then of course it'll chew it up.
