THE VIDEO STORE - A Queen Video Documentary
This is a documentary about the closing of Toronto video store, Queen Video. In this documentary we explore the store’s history, its effect on the community, the resulting sale, and most importantly the effect on its employees. The themes explored in The Video Store are universal to other small, family-run businesses.

I'll miss Queen Video. Staff was always great, great titles to choose from. So many tapes/DVD's that you would never find available to rent anywhere else and that sweet 7 day rental time. This store will be sorely missed. Another thing that made Toronto great, gone! R.I.P. Queen Video. Never forgotten!

Netflix rotates out content all the time too so even if they have something good it wont be there a few months later. Everything Disney owned is on their service alone these days. So the best option we had for affordable viewing was lost because people would rather sit at home and hunt through a really badly laid out menu.
It's not like you can't get hold of this stuff. Go buy some shit on Ebay. Being able to watch anything, anywhere, anytime is fantastic. People need to stop bashing technology that makes life 100 times easier and more convenient simply because they're too lazy/stupid to figure out how to get the older stuff themselves. I have hundreds of Steelbooks, hundreds of VHS tapes, Hundreds of old video games, one of the best VCR's a CRT TV and still use a couple of the streaming services. Having options is awesome, stop making it sound like we're living in shit times. We're not. People are always looking back for a golden age that only exists inside their imaginations. The golden age is now.
And you have a video about fucking torrenting so, I mean, come on.

You know....I didn’t see first hand these video stores closing like this in my community...it happened but I didn’t pay attention to it. It truly is the end of an era. Society loses something everyday from its past. This is just one of many.

Sad to see Video stores close. Netflix's and amazon prime video others whats cuased it
even though i am watching this on youtube, i fucking hate it and miss movie stores and a time with no social media.
Gone are the days when my family would all go together to the local rental store, searching through the many VHS tapes and reading the back cover, only to end up choosing a movie based on the awesome cover art! Some of the worst movies had the most awesome artwork with the most horrible piece of trash B-movie inside. Many of those trashy movies are now 70's and 80's cult classics and many times better than the CGI garbage they spend millions to make now a days!!! Some rental stores had a somewhat magical/comfortable feeling inside and my local store even had a Horror Dungeon themed basement with all the Horror and Slasher movies that alone was a real thrill just to go down there as a kid. I was a bit scared (smh) by the covers of some movies, such as; Fright Night, Creepshow and the cardboard cutout of a long neck demon women that they had down there from the rock n roll cheesefest B-movie "Black Roses". Ahh the memories :)
I will never forget that day wen my local video store closed. I was their. I saw the workers loading all their movies on to a vehicle so it can be shipped of. it was really emotional to see them go out of business. I used to go their a lot to rent movies. good times. the same thing is going to happen to movie theater's because now that we have Netflix and Hulu and all those other apps. their is no reason to go to the theater because what's the point of going to the theater's to see a movie if you can just go on Netflix and watch a movie all in the comfort of you're own home. you never have to leave the house. I go on Netflix sometimes but I still like going to the theater's sometimes. it's the feeling you get and the experience of going to the theater's that makes it so fun. that's what keeps people coming back over and over again.

people have to understand that original VHS tapes are uncut. you would be shocked of the things removed in films now.
Ya the real world is like 451. They're gonna "burn our books" by putting all of our media on the internet and then shutting down the internet
You're kidding right? The MPAA forced several parts of Texas Chainsaw to be removed if the studio wanted to avoid it getting an X rating. Many of those scenes weren't seen again until dvd came about. Loads of great Tom Savini effects were cut from the original Friday the 13th. We didn't start getting those uncut, unrated and director's cuts until dvd became the norm.
@@TrackerRoo That might be correct but a lot of films have been changed to avoid issues with today's attitudes towards things.

My Mom grew up in Toronto - I was brought up in Connecticut. I remember going to visit my grandparents who lived in Rosedale and renting *stacks* of videos from this place. I mistakenly stumbled on this doc just now. I'm sad to see this. I'm sure people have incredible memories there. Video stores were incredible community hubs.

Queen Video was one of my favorite places to go to when I went to Toronto, so many memories! On the bright side though, Toronto still has Bay Street Video.

I enjoyed this documentary very much. Every neighborhood had at least one video store and within the store were the human characters that made it special.
A touching film, even if like me you have no particular association with the location or business. Skilful editing of the owner and employee interviews too. Took me back to my Blockbuster days ha!
