WE BROKE OUR TINNY - Flathead Fishing Catch n Cook. We Explain How We Destroyed our Sea Jay Nomad
This week we hit up one of our favourite estuary systems on the Southern NSW Coast. As the tittle suggests, we did some catastrophic damage to our tinny (our fault) but the amazing team at SeaJay boats got us back on the water in no time. We catch some tasty flathead and find a sick little spot to camp on the side of the river.
Worth watching if you like taking your tinny to some rough and remote places as we explain all the mistakes we made that lead to some significant damage to our beloved tinny.
Thanks for watching!!

The guy who repaired that in Darwin did a shit job. Good on Seajay for helping you out👍
Jimbo there was nothing clean about that rag mate
If ya get spiked from flatties. Rub the spiked area on the flatties under belly. The slime neutralises the pain. Just don't get a second spike. 😂😂😂. Let me know if it works. 😊
This is very good info! Will report back in future spiking episodes.😅
How did they say you should strap the boat down then?
from what I now understand, the boat needs to be able to flex and move as the trailer has so much movement in it. They recommended some straps on either side of the outboard but not too tight. When ever we went on rough roads I always cranked all my straps as tight as possible which prevented the boat from being able to move around with the trailer movement
@ which is what you would expect. Thanks for putting the info out there. Could save a few boats in the future!
Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy you muppet lol. You’ve learnt, gr8, say no more. I’ve seen some mothers do have’em but you are very much killing that show. Glad you’re home and aren’t going to be so silly. 😊
Ha cheers! Thanks for watching
OSP worm HP fish aye good to see people using JDM plastics like that
How good! We did some stuff for a fishing company a few weeks ago and they sent us a few different styles to try, deff rate them!
Good stuff again Kid's hope ya chanel grows fast the mad mullet from Mackay 🍻🐟😜
Cheers Mad Mullet! Few people have said what a legend you are, thanks for watching 🤘🤘
Hey James. How did they suggest that you hold the boat to the trailer if not a strap over it? I have the same boat.
Hey Stuart, the boat needs to be able to flex and move as the trailer has so much movement in it. They recommended some straps on either side of the outboard but not to tight. When ever we went on rough roads I always cranked all my straps as tight as possible which prevented the boat from being able to move around with the trailer movement
@jamesnjacqdriftin thanks for that mate. Better check mine i think.
Lovely Ep and area and fish and tinny guys, And good on SeaJay for heaping you out, As most Tinnies will crack over time when you take them up north all my mates with alloy tinnies had to get them welded up with more bracing its just how they are, Our 5m tinny has been fully welded up twice in 11 years and the last time a few years ago. I braced it up heaps more to handle where I take it and what I do to it,
That’s good to know thanks for the info Craig. I recon your tinny would have seen some sights that’s for sure 😂
@@jamesnjacqdriftin No worries, yes been a few places up north,
Thanks for the info as I have said in the past I have the same boat yet to use it but like you said you put that boat through hell and seajay fixed it for you good on them looking forward to seeing your new boat and might even see you guys in wa next year still need to get some marks off ya.lol.😊
Good on ya Heath! Feel free to send us an email or message us on insta mate. We certainly owe you some good marks for all your support!
@jamesnjacqdriftin cheers
Lucky I'm subscribed would have missed it didn't recognise James without his Schmock lol carry on crew
😂😂😂😂 the schmock is on a sabbatical
Another great video you two. I have to say a few things I have watched most of your videos and I was thinking, wow they are giving the trailer a good work out. Yes, not designed for the work out you were using it for. In saying the above Points, my hat is off to you for sharing what you have learnt. This is why I think I enjoy your videos. Straight up without all the bling. Keep them coming. Looking forward to seeing the new rig.
That’s really nice to read thankyou! Yep some lessons learnt but the show goes on 😂
@@jamesnjacqdriftin ❤
That is absolutely terrible. Im glad I never bought one of them, so over rated. No doubt they helped you as they wouldn't want that crap out in the public 😅
I’m pretty happy with how the situation played out (just my opinion). From my understanding the other major tinny brands would have put this damage down to wear and tear (as our insurance did) and we would have ended up boat less. I’m sure that there will be lots of different options on this but I’m really glad we got the Seajay and grateful they helped us out. Thanks for watching !
Definitely excellent how they handled it, but it should never of happened in the first place. Not sure about the other big brands putting it down as wear & tear, never seen that as I've never seen a dingy fall apart like that, it must of been embarrassing for seajay It's great you got it sorted and they did the right thing
What’s in the spray bottle for cleaning your rods? Just fresh water?
Yeah just fresh water, should have mentioned that 😂
2 videos = 1 subscription 👍♥️
Cheers!
That dinner background 😍
How good!
Awesome session guys 😂😂😂😂
Cheers!
What’s the plans for the “bigger boat”? Surely it’d be hard to beat a tinny up in that country!
Yeah we have something in the works. Deff sticking with an Ali boat!
Yes bimini... 😁☀️
Better late than never 😂😂
Have a great time guys. Would love to meet you next year in the Territory when I am there. Probably on the Daly.
Thanks Stuart! Absolutely, we loved the Daly and can’t wait to get back
😁👍

@@jamesnjacqdriftin If you are ever in Townsville, look me up. Do a flick in one of our creeks mate.
Lovely ep and areas and series guys, Safe travels, its blowing and raining on the sunny coast, I live at Cooroy lovely temp and wet, haha
Thanks Craig, we have actually just hit Victoria today, got something exciting to pick up next week 🚤🚤
@@jamesnjacqdriftin Cool enjoy
Gidday guys, i just found your channel today and subscribed, i really enjoy the way you do things. Can i make a sugestion for another great and simple meal for when you dont really feel like cooking anything with a lot of preparation. Get maybe two packets of Continental sour cream and chives from Woolies and cook it up as per the instructions then cut up your fish of choice into small chunks maybe fourty millimetres wide, coarse fleshed fish like trevally works great but any fish will do, and when the pastre is cooked throw in your fish and move it around gently with a spoon until the fish is cooked. Its very tasty and takes basically the time it takes to cook the pastre. Looking forward to watching more of your vids, cheers.
Wow thanks so much that sounds awesome, we will deff try that in the future. Thanks for taking the time to share!
Yellow tail empower good chewing
Ah thankyou! We actually ate a heap of them when we were in west aus, thought they were something else. Very good chewing
Is that not a Robinson sea bream??
Nah unfortunately not, we haven’t caught any robbos since we were in WA
Can’t keep females
G'day just wondering where you guys camped in this ep please. McGowan's? Thanks keepem coming.
Yep McGowans, epic spot.
Great episode once again guys thanks so much for putting in the effort to make these episodes I have learnt a lot from you guys keep uploading and I will keep watching.😊
Good on ya Heath! Appreciate you supporting us
Where did you book your camp site ?
Depends on where you camp, but this site was rainbow cliffs, so just search for that and it will link you to the permit website. It’s a bit of a process so brace yourself 😂
Another great video jjs as for the shirt you can just tell everyone it's your lucky fishing shirt carry-on team
Ha cheers! It’s been pretty lucky lately actually.
Great to meet you guys the other day. I can't wait to see what you have coming up next Another awesome video guys
Cheers Jon! Great to meet you also, hope your settling into the good life 🤘🤘
That’s genius with the fenders! Absolutely killing it as always guys grouse episode 👏🏻
Thanks mate! Would prob be easier if we just payed attention to the tides😂 but the fenders are a good plan B

We have something in the works! Stay tuned
@@jamesnjacqdriftinSomething with an transom well I'll guess??
I'm planning to head to East Arnhem Land from Canberra Feb, taking a month or two or three depending on weather and road access. Inspired by your Videos and talks. Just hoping to catch a Coral Trout. That would make my day. I've read I need a few permits. Yes I plan to apply early Jan/Feb. You guys really do capture a great fishing adventure. So Nice to live in the best country on Earth. Best wishes to you both. PS I love mud crabbing. Cheers Mike.
That’s awesome Mike it’s definitely worth the drive. Apparently the road is pretty well kept through the wet. There’s a Facebook page that provides regular updates on the road conditions that is really useful. Hopefully the trout fishing is as good for you as it was us. We couldn’t keep a lure in the water!
The genies swim out to sea to drop there eggs so that’s probably why it was swim out though the bar
Ah yep that would make sense. That’s good info cheers!
Iodine bream. Good ep guys. What's the name of that camp please.
Cheers! We were at Daliway bay for this ep
Lovely Ep and area and fish and Tucker guys, I am glad you liked the area. I did not to many permits, I love Cape York after 21 trips up Cape York in 42 years it's my favorite spot,
Woah that’s incredible. Will have to hit you up for some advice when we get up there!
The shirt is your brand James.
Ha surprisingly it came good after a few washes. It will return!
@jamesnjacqdriftin good job u 2
go into an op shop and buy a bunch of light-colored cotton business shirt's, you just bin them when too dirty to wear.
That’s a good idea, unfortunately I get too attached to items so wouldn’t be able to throw any of them out 😂
Man these videos are so good don't stop uploading
Thanks that’s pretty cool to hear! We are loving making them and more to come!
A good video, I enjoyed watching it. Ps. you have a new subscriber.
Cheers! Thanks for watching.
My son carches ALL his trout trolling. He used to use Bagleys as they were deadly on trout. And the added benefit is that you bring the trout to the surface afer hooked and out of the reach of sharks. 4 to 5 meter diving lures are the best in 5 to 6 meters of shallow reef.
It’s a good way to catch them and great point about the sharks, we didn’t loose any that day to sharks and the trolling is probably why.
Another great vid,you guys should do a camper walk around…cheers
Cheers! We are actually about sell the camper, so maybe we should do a video before it goes
@ so what’s next,going to the dark side off-road caravan ?..
@@davidwestwood5968 ha in our dreams, we are a long way off affording a van. We have bought a bigger boat so will be slumming it next year 😂
Have you decided on what boat you will be getting?
Yeah we have! You will see in a few weeks
@jamesnjacqdriftin Tease😁
@@jamesnjacqdriftin When you both get a chance would you please do an on the water comparison between the 3.7hs sea jay and your new boat? Am looking get a boat to island hop yet still able to go roof top if possible. Cheers
Hi guys, we love your show.. Is that just water you spray your fishing gear with?? Also, do you scale the fish before you cook the skin? ❤
Cheers! Yeah just fresh water and leave the scales on. Sounds strange but makes it taste amazing
Love your work, keep it up
Thankyou🤘 plenty more to come
Brassy Trevally. Very common in the NT
