I got the Ravon 13-39x56 with an Ollin camera mount. I arrives tomorrow.
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it! It’s a great little scope and a favorite of mine these last 2 seasons for the backcountry hunts.
I like their stuff, I just ordered a couple pairs of the Preacher 2.0 pants with the knee pads.
Very cool! Have you tried their pants before?
Awesome info!
Thanks! Good luck out there.
Man some of their material is super loud
I have an updated video that I’ll be posting tomorrow on the items. I’d say the loudest item I’ve noticed is the Transition jacket and it’s as loud as my Sitka kelvin or other jackets of that same sort. I would figure pants are likely the loudest things that someone could be wearing when walking and I don’t have any of them from kings aside for the bin which I love.
New video just posted. ua-cam.com/video/FfMRfBb1apU/v-deo.html
If there are consistent swirling winds, a deer will feel safe knowing that their nose could catch a potential threat from many different angles.
wait, so why do they like swirling wind?
A belt isn’t a TQ.
It sure isn’t! Luckily some gear can be carried by a hunting partner with a med kit. In my case, it could be a spotter in my pack and a nice med kit in theirs. Happy Hunting!
The thing about the Vortex is they include many accessories that cost money; instead, Maven puts its money into the glass and let the consumer sort out cases and bags.
valid point! To each their own on the preferences there.
Great review, I have a size question; I'm 6', 185, 34w, 34L - would you still suggest the Medium?
I’d go up to the large based on your height and likely your sleeve length as well
@@east2westhunts Thanks sir, buying today.
Adelle Dam
I enjoyed watching all your videos! Every video brings a lot of information about new hunting gear, equipment and detailed information about its use. I like your choices, which I found to be the best! I enjoyed watching your hunting trips!
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback 🙏
Sounds noisy
It’s on par with just about anything else I’ve used aside for brushed face fabric.
Great hunt! Bravo to all your hunting team!
what the hell is it ?
A spotting scope.
That sunrise at 11:50 was beautiful. Can’t wait to get out there in a couple years after I add a few more points
Those sunrises were unbelievable. Glad they came across that way in the video. Good luck on the draws. Those points will come in handy! Happy Hunting🤘🏼
Great review; thank you. :)
Great video. I appreciate your time filming this. About to order a ton of stuff for elk archery and late season deer. Was that also a medium anorak?
Anorak is a large. Bib is medium
How does this merino compare to Kuiu?
@@bobwilliams3634 the largest difference if you’re comparing the lighter weight merino will be the OV has more stretch in it. I wouldn’t hesitate to use either but I prefer a thicker merino if I was going with a base layer for late season. The OV would be really good in an earlier season.
@@east2westhunts thanks
Hi Just a point the cross bar goes over the top, not underneath! I was going to purchase the storm star, but I need 3p tent and the Mountain Star comes in 3p. Great video by the video by the way. Thankyou for sharing!
Great add! Thanks!!
@@east2westhunts Also, those big hooks at the pole intersections are intended to go around both poles, which is why they are much larger in size
What unit?
you didn't focus as well as possible. go to around 20:40. 1000 vs 800 vs 300.....best value is 300
Dude, I think the setup is super easy. I have zero issues with mine.
I’m glad you find it easy. I seem to fumble around with it and get it right but it’s just not as quick as some other tents I have. I really love the design though as it’s so great in bad weather. Hope you have a great season out there 👊
All the vortex spotting scopes have removable eye piece
My guy, I just subbed because I saw your handle on the back of a truck window. Was that you driving? Looking forward to seeing more content, good work so far
Yes it was! Thanks for dropping a note!
Thank you for your detailed explanation of these products!
Great find for a versatile product that can be used for the next hunt.
Sure is! More of a year round great shirt for everything from workouts to scouting.
Nice glass , congrats ✌️
Thanks! 🤘🏼
Centering Toaks on BRS might be a a fair test? Measuring fuel consumption, rather than just asserting one uses more than the other might be better too? Watch GearSkeptic's stove tests to see how your tests compare, as he does the BRS and some sort of 'finned' pot and several others, along with charts and graphs galore. In them, he shows that wind is the primary user of fuel, not the stoves themselves.
Thanks for the feedback. Hate to tell you but the results are going to be similar between those 3, regardless of my 1/2 centimeter of the cup being off. Plus, out in the woods you are going to not have perfectly level surfaces. However, I have a plan to do one test just in burn rate of fuel and post that as well since that’s a great result to consider when deciding on what stove works best for someone instead of just the timing alone. Thanks for the feedback 🤘🏼
@@east2westhunts - If you do a fuel usage test, remember that max-valve wastes fuel on many stoves (incomplete burning), so it's a little bit tricky to get fair results. After one owns a stove for a while, they get to know where the sweet-spot is for efficient boils.
@@tomnoyb8301love that. Great feedback. I’ve definitely noticed that on my BRS. It’s got a sweet spot, for sure.
When my son and I got into backpacking I got 2 BRS stoves and 2 Toaks pots for less than the cost of 1 Jetboil. It was a no-brainer. I love how light it is and still enjoy using mine. I have occasionally had issues with wind, but do my best to block it with rocks, my pack, my food bag, etc. I do appreciate the efficiency of the Jetboil, but just not a fan of the size, weight, or price. I have recently picked up a Soto Amicus which is probably more in line with the pocket rocket in terms of efficiency and wind resistance, but haven't had much opportunity to test it in the field. I also picked up a fairly large/heavy 1.5L Olicamp aluminum pot which has the heat diffuser thing on the bottom (kinda like a jetboil). I won't take it backpacking, but it is great for car camping as it helps to heat more water quickly.
I’ve heard nothing but positive with the Amicus. Seems like that and the pocket rocket are the choices of many. Glad you and your son are enjoying those BRS stoves and the Toaks cups! I enjoy the same when it comes to the size and weight. Thanks for the comment of what you’re enjoying out there 🙌
I’ve been running the BRS with a Stanley stainless steel cook set for a few seasons now. I can fit one of the the cups that comes with the Stanley set, the BRS burner, a small spice container and a small fuel canister inside the cook “pot” it’s been a great budget setup and bulletproof so far.
That Stanley cook set is a great budget pot and is an absolute tank! Sounds like you’ve got a good system going.
Very interesting, detailed presentation; very nice demonstration of the three different types of mini stoves! Great video!
Appreciate the feedback! Thanks!
Kinda wish I had bought this over the Big agnes copper spur 2
Too late for a return?
Why is that? I’m looking at this one and the copper spur too
My oldest ugliest boy stole my Athlon 10x50's . Athlon amazed me for what they cost vs what you get. Argos G-2 HD $ 219.00 12x50 on Amazon will blow your mind. Absolutely blow your mind. I've been in the riflescope bino world for a long time. I've hunted and killed a lot of critters big and small. I was raised and mentored by a Cree Indian. I miss him every day. In the good ole days. There was a huge difference in glass. Today not so much. The Chinese slashed prices and improved on Quality. Now instead of just #5 brands that dominate. A $200 pair may be as good as a $1000.00 pair. Which is great for us little non important people. Not so good for the big #5. And in riflescopes it's an even bigger gap. couple brands to throw out there is Athlon and Sightron and G.P.O. so for $600.00 and less . You can have a riflescope that cannot be beaten. Unless you're one of these new Army snipers who think shooting animals at 1000 yards is Humane and ok to do. They have scopes now that have math problems covering the entire scope. You can't see out the thing because of all the math and slashes and do Hickys' . The Sightron 4-12-40 is $269.00 on Amazon. It's so clear it's just unbelievable. Plex. No clutter. They make scopes for all the want-to-bees. Athlon Talos 6x24x50 $229.00 as good as any. Had a Bigfoot almost end us one day. We were so far back into the mountains 2 men screaming was never noticed. Had a bear walk right up to me while I was sleeping. We were eyeball to eyeball. Been places so remote animals ran toward you instead of running away. Indians tend to put all their money in their gear and weapons and sit on bus seats. But if you can get something cheap that is actually as good as the expensive one. More power to you. Indians have no regard for laws or rules. There is no deer season or squirrel season. And you'll never see one buying a fishing or hunting license. John was free as a bird. There are things out there that will kill you. You have to have gear and guns you trust with your life. And it's getting cheaper by the day. Peace.
The “oldest, ugliest boy has me cracking up!” Thanks for the feedback. I’m a big fan of Athlon. They made some great products for the price point.
Great review; been looking for a thorough side by side comparison of a couple of these scopes and this covered all the bases. Any insight on how the Maven CS1 compares to the full size Vortex Razor 65mm?
I’ve had both. The maven is just as good, if not better than the vortex. You won’t be disappointed if you get the maven.
@@east2westhunts thanks for the reply! Was hoping the Maven was the better choice, especially with the weight savings! You earned a subscriber!
Appreciate it! Enjoy the Maven!
What battery does this use?
The 10x30’s use the CR2 3V The 16x42’s and 20’s use a AA battery
Glad to see a successful hunt. Keep the adventures coming.
Thanks for watching. We will keep them cooking!
thanks for the review, how have they been?
They have been better than I expected. With a 30mm objective, they aren’t stellar at low light but the stabilization and the size of them is incredible. The next test will be going out for 2024 seasons with just these and no tripod.
Excellent!
Thanks!
Fun hunt, thanks @east2wethunts, great hunt plans and even better memories!
That’s what it’s all about. Hunting brings people together. Thanks for watching!
Love it. Can’t wait for E2W to tell me I drew for my opportunity at one!
Your time will come! Looking forward to giving you a call when the good news comes 👌
Epic adventure great. Footage
Appreciate it!
I see this is a year old, I just bought my Howa, and they are made in Japan, not China. I'll put my Howa up against Maven c-1's or c-3's any day of the week. Crystal clear. And fantastic clarity. For under $500. There aren't many brands that are going to match these. Clarity is usually $$$$$$$$$$$$ thousands not under $ 500, mine are 10x42'. Greetings from Va.
I couldn’t agree more! I’m glad you’re enjoying the glass as much as you are. Fantastic value for what you get. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I have Nikon monarch 5 and i found it's better than vortex
You had an option of GPO and blaser and blaser uses abbe koening prisms
Why the edges are green??
It's really a great review you have made,my question is if you can make a video of Pentax PF 100 ED ?? How it is and as Pentax says it has Lanthanum crown rare earth glass and performance is similar to Kowa Zeiss and Swarovski but i didn't find a chance to look through it so please make a video of Pentax PF 100 ED spotting scope
Appreciate the comment. If I can get ahold of the Pentax, I certainly will do the review.
Thanks for taking us along
It’s a pleasure to do so. Really appreciate you tuning in and watching. 😊
I just received the Vanguard Endeavor HD 82A, I can honestly say, my unit punches wayyy harder than the price suggests. The glass is very clear even through 60x. The focus knob for rough and fine focus works absolutely suburb. I also tried it in low lighting and at dusk and was still able to get an acceptable image. I am truly pleased with it. I considered scopes well over $1k including the Tract TORIC UHD 27-55x80, Maven S1A, and the Vortex Viper HD or Vortex Razor HD. However I couldn't justify spending that for my first spotter. I am sure the glass quality is much higher in the Tract and Maven than this however the clarity through the magnification is what I am impressed with at this price. I would put money on this that this could stack up with the Vortex Viper HD if all units preformed this well. I would highly recommend this. The warranty also sounds pretty legit as well. Overall it's nice not having to spend $900-$1000 for something with similar quality. Just my 2 cents. Cheers!
I’m glad you enjoy the spotter so much! It definitely gets the job done and punches way above the dollar amount. Cheers! Hope you that scope for years in the field.
Good stuff
Greatly appreciate it!
As someone from the East looking to try some western hunting, I appreciate all the information I can get. Thanks
You’re welcome!
