Freezer Meal Day, Jan 2025
Eating down the freezer just to put more things in the freezer, does that sound right?
Of course it does.

I dragged Fred out of the house for breakfast so of course I took him shopping, haha. Ok, so I had to fill in a few holes for meals as well as look into some new things to help use some of our pantry up. That means, another grocery haul. The worst pantry tour ever, haha
Переглядів 28614 днів тому
So maybe not the worst pantry tour but I do think it could have been better. I don't have an actual pantry so our food is stored all over the place (forgot to show you the potatoes stored in our spare bedroom because it stays colder in there) but where everything is makes sense to me. Now to start eating it all to get ready for next years harvest. Are you brave enough to do a pantry challenge? ...

Making Fire-starters, to make my life easier....
Переглядів 14321 день тому
I have been wanting to try making my fire building tasks a bit easier and I saw a video on how to make these a while ago, and let me tell you that they work SO well. I almost followed the steps from @AcreHomestead , thanks Becky, and it has made it so much easier for me now. If you have a wood stove or fireplace and have a hard time, give them a try. Christmas Markets

Well, I went to check out the Christmas markets and yes, I did a TERRIBLE job filming, hahaha. The Indigenours PEI Store indigenouspei.ca/indigenous-pei-store/ Where I made my wreath www.blankcanvasartsupplies.ca/ Atlantic Maker Market was at the Eastlink Center but I couldn't find a website to share. Unexpected shopping

My goal this year is to shop responsibly and not have food waste while making homemade!😊 this will help!!
All three meals look yummy, I should move closer so I can come for dinner every night, hahaha
I just made a big pot of soup and froze it in serving size containers for my lunch later. I freeze lots of meals for a night when I don't feel like cooking.
That's awesome Tammy!
Yumm yumm
I never thought of putting stove top on pot pies. Thanks for the idea
It works so well! and comes out all crispy and tasty.
Awesome. I have to work on trying to get the freezer cleaned out before I can even think about doing something like this. LOL I have no idea what is at the bottom of the freezer or even if it is any good. Will have to work on this. Love your channel.
I know the feeling, the freezer is a mystery!
Tammy, a good cook, is a messy cook 😅😅
That I am, haha. and I will probably never change.
I just added up the grocery receipts for 2024...food only. In Ontario we spent 7850$ !!! We stock up for the 2 of us but Omg food is expensive. Can we start gardening yet with 4 feet of snow, lol!
I am going to be going through our seeds soon, can't wait to get the hands dirty :)
Always good to see you get Fred out to the stores to do some shopping. Good price on the cereal. Thanks for the video Tammy, hope you both are staying warm and healthy 🌺💛🌺💛🌺💛🌺
I got some seed starter mix today too. I can't wait to start some seeds!
Hay .. are you shopping, Canadian today???
Good morning Fred and Tammy ❤
wow, Luv the water and the waves, hope everyone made out okay down there.
Love seeing the water and hearing the gusting wind. Thank you for sharing and stay safe and warm 😊
Pulled a few punkins from my cold room and that's on my agenda before the weekend. One is similar to yours but smaller, one is a little yellow acorn and one is teeny weenie sugar punkin. I LOVE pumkin spice muffins with home canned pumpkin/squash... oh its yummy!
That was beautiful. I love windy weather, it thrills me for some reason. Weird, I know. Lucky its a new moon and not a full moon. It may have been much higher! I shopped a bit too, again, didn't really need anything and got great deals on BIG chicken drummies 1.99/lb (enough for 3 meals) and 3 packs of beef liver at 30% off and only about 5 $ a pack anyway. Milk, a cuke, big head of cabbage and 5 lbs of russets & A lg. yogurt. ONLY spent $37!! I was thrilled.
Me too - I've loved the wind all my life 🥰🥰🥰
FABULOUS deals, :)
Is this near where your home is ??
not too far away, about a 5 minute drive. I go there quite a bit
Thanks for sharing ...looks rather cold 😮
I've seen you buy a ton of coffee but I don't remember ever seeing you buy tea. So, are you growing your own?
we actually pick up bigger boxes of tea, have quite a bit still.
I need to cut back on coffee, but sometimes I think I need an IV of coffee!! Getting so expensive!
try and find a PC wok around Charlottetown is like try to pull teeth out of a tiger. Haven't been able to find one at all! Glad you found one!
oh and being on the east coast try soe dulse it is from nova scotia it is a great dry snack or in cooking has an iodine flavour but is so so healthy
had it years ago, might have to try it again
hey Mikey likes it!!( 70s commercial about life cereal lol)
"Let me amend that!" LMAO that's my new favourite phrase. Your freezers looks just like ours! I recently defrosted the upright (its a smaller one) and I also reorganized the medium chest freezer and I was ASTOUNDED by how much food fits in those things!!! 😲 I immediately decided to do a no/low spend January and we've barely made a dent. We are so apocolypse ready, our pasta and rice stash is almost embarrassing. 🫣
Bucket List trip is to visit PEI. I am so glad you showed up on my UA-cam search. I started canning during Summer 2023. I've pressure canned a lot of tomato products and proteins.
😅 I'm glad to see all that food stored up. U guys are so carnivore + I love it. Being diabetic I made a choice,, rice or potatoes. I choose rice! I see U like ur rice too:) Be blessed all.
we are carnivore, yep, haha
We moved here from Ontario 16 years ago and we love it here too. I'm doing the pantry challenge for January as I always do, but I do buy fresh stuff still: Dairy/fruit & veggies. I'm slowly emptying the freezer and pantry but we don't have anywhere near the amount of food that you have. You have quite the stash! Have a great week Tammy.
Bigger stash than I need thats for sure
Doesn't look like it's going down 😅😅
😂
slowly it is, haha
Are u going tolp put a wick in them? may help start quicker/ But still a super idea WTG
Do you put a pinch of nutmeg in
roast some of those seeds they are delicious, i spent many many summers at my grandparents farm in mount buchanon it had an outhouse in the middle of a cow pasture two barns a hen house which as a five year old would fetch the eggs in the morning had a beautiful wood cooking stove and three heating stoves that the pipes went up through holes in the floor along the upstairs ceiling then out the kitchen stove alway had a fire it had a massve pantry that had a hatch on the floor that had stairs going down to dirt root cellar, at the back of the 500 acre property was the northumberland straight with a massive sand beach with giant holes filled with water , across the street they had more land which went to a wharf which they lobster fished from PEI is the best, have a lot of cousins down there nyone named mackinnon macleod nicholson, one of them owns island active wear, and all my relatives are buried t the polly cemetery which when my time comes I can be to, for free as it is for the origiginal brits who were kicked out over there were shipped on a slave ship called the polly to take over the farms from the french on PEI who were kicked out sent down saouth and became cajuns- Dave
Wtg Tammy ❤
I have made these, you don't need a lot of wax, they work great. You can also tie a string around a pine cone and dip it in the wax, when you want to use them just light the string.
That is FABULOUS idea
That's a wonderful idea! I've been making messes everywhere this January. Interior painting has been going on in my house, bedroom, hallway and right now I'm in the middle of painting my kitchen cabinets. Last week I stripped and refinished my kitchen table. Talk about a mess! Too bad meals still have to happen! Have a great week and happy fire-starting.
Looks like a store we should have here
That store had a lot of very good looking meat and those big bags of frozen veggies looked so good!!
That price of ground beef was awesome!
isn't it??
I wish we had Kays in Ontario!
Kay's Fresh Market: yay! Kay's Wholesale: nay for me. I live closer to Summerside so Kay's Market will be a once in while shop, while the Summerside Butcher shop is a weekly stop for me. Right now, we are doing a low spend January for groceries, so only buying what we absolutely need. So far so good.
I am usually in Summerside, as you well know, haha, but I was in town, had to check it out :)
Wow that was soo neat seeing your first customer! Was it a blue jay? I couldn’t tell from the video? I live in downtown Toronto and don’t have a balcony since I’m on the 34th floor but I love being this high and watching the birds. It would be so neat to be able to feed them.
First was a Chickadee, have had lots of Jays though. :o)
Flags and grill covers never last long on PEI. Lol
Way to go, Tammy Your great ❤
Don't you find shopping these days is really hit or miss? It's like a roulette spin when one goes to the stores anymore! I am not a ham lover but Cook's brand ham IMO is delish!! and that sale you caught was awesome! I have been noticing lately up here in N Ont that ham is becoming almost unaffordable, as is beef. We are looking into buying sides or quarters from the local abitoire... hmmmph... must save pennies... must save....😓
So true!
You did great getting those turkeys! A fresh turkey cooks up sooo fast! I just put butter and sage under the breast between the skin and the meat and just popped it in the roasting pan on the rack with the lid on and I let it roast in the oven at 350 and I had to add some water into the bottom of the pan when I was starting to smell it roasting and I caught it just in time there was a lot of lovely brown drippings on the bottom and with the water added it kept the bird very moist and after three hours I checked the turkey and temp checked the thickest part of the breast and the thermometer was telling me it was overcooked. So I removed the lid and decided to take it out and let it sit covered for 30mins and then I removed the skin and bones and put the meat into trays and I got soo much dark meat and then the amount of moist white meat was amazing!! Then I took all the bones and skin and put in my large soup pot and covered with water and added a couple of splashes of apple cider vinegar and some onion and carrot peels and simmered it for several hours and then I strained out the bone broth and canned it. I had ten pints of turkey broth and an entire soup pot with veggies and some turkey that came from the bones and then I canned the soup. I did it all in one day! I was amazed at how much I was able to accomplish! The turkey soup is amazing. Highly recommend!!
That is an amazing way to use the whole bird!
@@simplerlivingpei thank you I thought so too! What can I say I’m a very frugal Canadian and try squeeze every bit from the food budget these days with everything so crazy expensive.
Tammy you need to wait until the middle of January for better sales on some things 😢
Not if you want cheap turkeys…I had hubby go the other day to get some and our stores are all sold out. 😢
New sub here. You hooked me when you punched that dough.
HAHA, that is totally the best part. :)
Omgoodness! What a sweetheart!❤ That looks delicious!
sounds like that bearing in the bread machine could use some canned air to blow out dust & four and add a bit of oil to that bearing
Been making pizza, calzone, and stromboli a long time. Never used this method. Doesn't matter how it looks, everyone will eat it. Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing!
