How to fill a propane gas bottle with an adaptor at a LPG filling station
The instructions for doing this are below
HOW TO FILL A GAS BOTTLE
The bottle needs to be removed from the vehicle!
(Note 2 Ltr of gas =1kg)
First you need to weigh the bottle.(An empty 6kg gas bottle is around 8-9kg)
The empty bottle weight is know as the TARE WEIGHT!
When you have established the weight this tells you how much gas is in the bottle
i.e. when it's full it should be around 14kg
Half full around 11kg
Empty 8kg
Now to the filling
First make sure the valve is turned off on the bottle!
Fit the adapter to the bottle and tighten.
Now open the bottle valve.
Now connect the filling hose to the adaptor/bottle.
(Note upon connection to your bottle you will hear gas entering the bottle without doing anything this is what is left in the hose from the previous user!)
Now press the button on the filling pump to deliver the gas keep it pressed till you reach 12lts (don't worry if you go slightly over or below!)
Now turn off the valve on top of your bottle.
Remove the filling hose
(Note again a small amount of gas will be released!)
Now you can remove the adaptor from you bottle.
Your bottle is now full and ready to be put back onto your motorhome ensure tightness and spray test joint after turning back on.

Filling rented gas bottles is illegal in Britain. Its deemed dangerous you can be prosecuted is viewed as theft .the staff in the paydesk will hit the stop button if your seen doing it .the industry brougt out safefill bottles they have 3 safty mechanisms in them .those you can fill just not rented ones

I have light weight bottles where you can see how much gas is in it. I have such an adaptor, but still I'm a bit hesitant to do this.

Some of us mere mortals have had proper training in filling gas bottles by LPG suppliers. When done correctly the dangers are minimal and are catered for in the procedure. Please do not assume that everyone outside of "the industry" is ignorant of correct procedures.
So how is this different to filling the tank on an lpg car exactly?

It's not permis, your assurance don't work if you have a problem.
I saw somwhere on UA-cam where the filling station staff actually loaned you an adapter so that you could do it. Can’t remember where it was but I think if you are very discreet nobody would know that you were filling bottles and not your vehicle. If you were doing it both it might be a bit more convincing though .

Funny because at the petrol stations in the UK, it says in the safety signs that the filling of gas bottles are strictly prohibited. How did you get away with this?! :O Take my advice, if you have to refill a gas bottle, only have it done by an approved gas handler at a gas yard.

USA is so back with this here you have to go and exchange the tank to a special place I never have seen a lpg gas pump at a gas stations
nikola georgiev this is technically illegal in most of Europe. To be legal the bottle needs to be fitted to a vehicle with a valve that stops it being filled beyond 80%.
@@Jabber-ig3iw my point was there is not many gas station that they sale lpg. Actually is so hard to find a lpg to be sale at a gas station. That's what i am saying is not like in Europe where almost every gas station sale LPG.

Its illegal to fill lose bottles on the forecourt in the UK. (and most other countries) Garages will freak out if they catch you doing this. You can be banned for life using that service station. Don't even think about using this method to fill from the boot or back seat thru the window unless you have a death wish cos i seen it done too. Regulations state only vehicles with permanent LPG system installed are permitted to be filled like LPG cars. motorhomes and RV's with a proper external body fill point.

Exactly tonytca. The LPG pumps are only designed for use on LPG powered vehicles only, and it states on the safety signs that refilling gas bottles is strictly prohibited. By law, refilling gas bottles can only be done by an approved gas handler at a gas site.
Funny Gas low say their direct fill bottles can be taken out of a motorhome or caravan and filled at a gaslow filling station

No 80% cut off, no gloves to protect against cold burns, working on weight only, in a word “ NO “. Good luck in finding a station that allows you to refill. Almost all will simply not allow it, toooooooo dangerous.

WaschyNumber1 Hi no it's not illegal but some garages won't allow you to do it It's impossible to blow a bottle up at worst you can overfill it that will result in just liquid coming out of the valve. If that ever happens take it to a wide open space obviously outside and vent off till just gas comes out. If you follow the instructions this should never happen. You need at least 20% of air in your bottle for the gas to form.

Why can't you fill a Flo gas bottle? The valve looks the same as any other propane bottles.
@@paulfinglas1305 bit late to the party but overflowing a gas bottle is one of the worst things to happen. True it may not be any danger to the person filling it up but gas is heavier than air, so following physics all that highly flammable gas will be going down the sewers just waiting for a gas build up. I always get mine refiled by calor because it basically costs the same and they replace your bottle with one that's been safety checked. But each to their own as long as you stay safe

Omg living dangerous guys,, to save a few quid, when did you last check that valve, I worked in calor both at the bottling plant and driving the tankers too and from the refinery, you guys honestly don't know what your doing, its a bomb for fuks sake, every week a big metal basket with brass faulty valves were sent for scrap due to any minor fault which the untrained eye would never see. To shows this on you tube is fking so iresponsible its insane. To fill a 6kg bottle with that amount of gas is a disaster in waiting that is why its illegal to do so. I don't care what happens to you for showing this but a word of WARNING to other you tubers DONT DO WHAT THIS CLOWN IS DOING. how does he know his scales are accurate, he haven't even allowed for ullage he has not even told about the weight of gas per litre propane or butane what time of year it is cos temperature plays a big part in this as well, so if you value your family and kids don't follow this clowns ideas just to save a few quid cos when these cylinders blow your family blows with it. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I fort the same. It's a 6kg so 12 litres of gas. Filled to 80%so 9.6 litres is required. He has over filled it.
But it has a safety valve on every bottle.
