Raising Your Own Queen Honey Bees Can Be Very Rewarding
I never had robbing when i pulled honey supers.hope everything works out
Good brother ❤❤
I have a sprinkle on a tripod set up ready to go if this happens..My mentor taught me this trick. It's a horrible thing to witness...
@@caz4523 that’s a good idea but I don’t have water out there. It ended pretty quick as no one could gain access
If i used a double screen board already I have never had any reason to use newspaper to reunite.
Robbing is a sad thing to see. I lost a few good hives this year to robbers because of the drought.
@@inharmonywithearth9982 it ended pretty quick being they couldn’t get in. Wish me luck tomorrow though!
@@decaturridgebees8761 good luck.🤞
I need to use this stuff...does it help with mites?
yea, getting all zero's in my mite washes using this stuff! fightthemites
Some also overmicTing for mites as I was told with mite treatment caused one who coloney to die
Will a chemical treatment destroy the hive or honey?
@@danofiremano it depends on the treatment. Some treatments are acceptable to be used with honey in place. As far as if they harm the hive it’s def possible but in general they’ll save the hive
Ok, buddy. Cogitated long enough...HOW ABOUT A SOLUTION?
@@garywells3763 the quick fix is a chemical treatment. The ultimate fix is host resistance which I’m working on. It takes time my friend.
Italian Queen ?
@@manworks2409 yea for the most part but not pure. Most bees in America have the Italian as foundation
is that dot natural or marked?
@@Tm-pb2tp marked
I planted Joe Pye weed last year. It is about 6 to 7 feet high and is loaded with flowers that are loaded with bees and butterflies. It likes it wet. I wish every one who has a spot for it or can create a spot would grow it. Pick wild seeds or buy plants from nursery locally or on line. They will spread profusely. My perpose is for pollinators and to improve bee populations .My question is how to make a suitable "home" for the bees . Not for honey production but to help protect them .Another wild life plant i grow is the service berry. The birds love them and if given water periodically they are tasty ,They would be a great wildlife forage addition that need almost no care.
I use a very simmilar method for combining the colonies that need requeening in August. I leave them with two queens laing antil fall when I decide between the two queens. That gives me more brood in the fall beside a new queen.
@@Prisacarul I like it!
Use linseed oil....
@@platypusrex2287 why? This works great
Since you're already using a double screen board, would you not be able to just pull it out without newspaper etc?
@@ThatBeeMan I don’t understand can you try that question again
@@decaturridgebees8761 My question is based on my assumption as to why you are using a double screen board to start with and also what you are hoping to accomplish with the newspaper. Perhaps a clearer understanding of those two things would help me understand your reasoning for both.
@@ThatBeeMan I’m using the double screen so I can have 2 opportunities for queens. One on the bottom and one on the top. I guess it’s possible to simply remove the ds board but I’d rather slowly introduce them. In this case I didn’t get a queen on the bottom mated so the simple combine is fitting. I currently have another ds board setup with a queen up top and down below. I’ll be looking for a place for that queen on top soon.
@@decaturridgebees8761 I understand having two opportunities for successful mating and I think that's a genius strategy but, you could also do that with a solid board so the question remains, what are you gaining with the double screen board?
@@decaturridgebees8761 I understand the logic of having two chances to raise a queen. What I'm asking is, how does a double screen board help that? Would a solid board not accomplish the same thing. I'm just looking for understanding. I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm looking for insight into what looks like a genius strategy.
It's just iron acetate (rust)
Great video, informative tip for requeening, and how to use a double screen board!
Cool!
You need a camera guy or a tripod. Unless your goal is to make your viewers dizzy
@@bethvanaalst2168 I rewatched and only found myself moderately dizzy afterwards ;). I hear ya tho
Can you use Eco Wood on boxes that have been painted?
@@chrisjackson2205 I do not believe so
I won't be rude and dislike this. But carry a bottle of alcohol and wash your hands in between hoves.
A nice little queen
That’s faster than I thought it would be
What would you say that flavor difference between Basswood and sourwood is like
I’ve never had sourwood. We don’t get it in michigan

Can't wait to see how she and her daughters perform!
Right on!
Very cool! Very thorough. Interesting
Huh? I have never heard of that process!
Need sun glasses 😂 brilliant queen
Drone comb, she likes laying fat workers 😮
Cells without bars😂
Have you noticed that it does not seem to soak into the hand holes as well. I scrub the hand holes with a sponge after they have soaked and that seems to encourage it to soak in better in those areas. I do like it, been doing it for 3 years so far, very happy overall. Yuup big fan as well.
Interesting. I soaked my for 3mins each side. I wonder if that was better or worse.
I don’t think it can be worse
U r marking the top of her thorax not her back. Very respectfully.
Yes one of my many gaffes . Thx for the correction my friend
How do the 7 mil compare to a thinner 6 mil for dexterity and stings? Thanks.
Haven’t tried the 6 so couldn’t say
@decaturridgebees8761 First of all, responding to a comment on a four year old video is impressive. I tried sixes and eights today, and I liked the eights. Good dexterity, and some sting protection. I think for me they will be the pathway to no gloves at all, soon. Thanks.
Just witnessed one in a tree beside my house this weekend. It was amazing!!
Where you at it's been awhile since loaded up a video
I’m slacking i guess! I do appreciate you watching
Good point
I need to start using it.
Do lots of open minded research before you do. 99% of people seem to stop using it after a year or two. Many had total failure of the box after just 2 years. Good luck either way.
I'm planning on trying to raise my own queens. Thanks for sharing!
😱👍👍💪🙂
Does that get cut with anything?
Water
Nice work. My preference when assembling woodenware is to glue and then nail/screw. Probably not necessary, but just how I do it. Never had a joint separate; The wood rots before that would happen.
Well Done !
