I am now rushing to get this out to you asap as we collectively grieve, with the tremendous loss of singer Martin Phillips, whose funeral is on Friday.
The Chills played just two South Island gigs, before leaving for an extensive 21 date tour through North America, which began in October 2022. This tour was their first international gigs in three years. It felt like then that we were all emerging from our COVID isolation and hibernation, but how good it was that we were there then.This was the final song of this The Chills set in hometown Dunedin. The affectionate and loyal fans were showing their dedication by singing along and happily dancing. I love to capture this atmosphere and not once has anyone ever told me not to film them.
'I Love my Leather Jacket' is a bittersweet tribute to Martyn Bull (The Chills former drummer, RIP) and by leaving Martin Phillipps his leather jacket, we have been also gifted this gem of a song.
