transcript
Hey UA-cam Todd here.
Today we are replacing the power steering pump on a Gen 2 Cadillac CTS-V series.
You will need a GM power steering tool kit and a 18 mm crows foot line wrench.
I got the tool kit from my local AutoZone. I Had to purchase the 18 mm crow's foot line wrench via Amazon.
Tracking down these two items are critical and will take more time than replacing the power steering pump itself.
Let's get started.
Remove air intake.
Remove serpentine belt with 15mm tensioner pulley.
Attach pulley remover to water pump and turn.
Use 18 mm crow's foot line wrench to disconnect bottom line of power steering pump.
Disconnect reservoir lines.
Reservoir will remain fastened to vehicle.
Power steering fluid will spill onto the ground so be prepared for that.
Remove three half inch bolts Securing power steering pump.
Remove pump.
Swap lines to new pump.
Reinstall pump with three half inch bolts.
Reinstall pulley with GM power steering tool kit.
Put everything back together.
Refill reservoir. This is a self bleeding system. Air bubbles will work themselves out.
Drive the car and check fluid every few minutes.
Top off fluid as needed.
Always have your work inspected by an ASE certified Grace monkey.
After passing inspection the vehicle should be thoroughly stress tested

Respect to you for being able to do a major job on a CTS-V with a dog and a child wandering around. If I had a dog I am sure he would be able to swear from listening to me work on my 05 CTS-V lol. Great cars but not much room to work. Any suggestions for for a source for replacement shocks and struts? Subscribed.

Using a basic wrench to lift the axle nut pimple was something I needed to see. Taking off the 4 bearing bolts before taking out the entire knuckle was smart. I used a sledge hammer to knock out the bearing resting on two jack stands but it required taking off the knuckle from the lower control arm and strut. Neither way is wrong or right. Just different. Giving the axle a love tap before putting it in avoid having to take everything apart again if you accidentally let the axle slide too far forward. Oh... And never start the Prius with the caliper off the rotor 😢 trying to figure out why the axle is making noise at the transmission because trying to put the piston back in is so hard you end up buying a new one. 🤦‍♂️💰

If you live in a rust area, consider leaving the speed sensor on the knuckle and just unplug it from above the wheel well. The bolt that holds the speed sensor to the knuckle will almost certainly be totally seized and it's so small, I broke mine with a half turn of a ratchet and had to go to the junkyard to get a new one.

I heard creative steel's "Elimivibe" mounts are better than their pure polyurethane ones... I bought the stock ones for now from Amazon for around 40 bucks each. Here's hoping that they'll last me another 30k miles or so before I have to do the $350 option. :P By the way, this video will be super valuable to me come Saturday when I do the job. Thank you much.

I had to do one a week ago. I skipped the slide hammer and just took the knuckle off and used the hydraulic press. I suggest this to anyone doing them if you have access to a press. Just remember to figure in an alignment on the job.

A must when doing this job. Isolate all the key fobs so they will not get in proximity of the car. If the abs system activates with the caliper(s) open air expensive things happen.

@@jaredcrist8560 Yes, but make sure rear hatch doesn't close. If it does you will either have to crawl through the back seat or put 12 volts to the jump posts under the hood to energize the hatch release.
