For sure. I definitely took notes and used them yesterday when I moved up to advanced and ended up paired with a purple and brown belt (I’m still blue).. ended up beating both🎉

@@jimg1504 yeah, it absolutely is. Depending on the ref, it works either very well or not so much. And doesn’t necessarily seem consistent. It went in one competitors favor one match (won due to his opponent getting the penalties) and then the opposite his next (lost due to being the one getting penalties). Meanwhile I got a ref that didn’t seem to care and after being reset to standing from half guard with Kimura my opponent stalled the rest of the match. 🤷🏼‍♂️

This ref wasn’t great. Should have been some penalties… particularly for the guy that was pushed out of bounds.

they aren't all going to be the most exciting matches, unfortunately. Especially at ultra heavyweight. Some of the other matches were good though. oss.

Get good at closed guard. A tall, strong person is a PITA when they get good at closed guard. In my opinion.

I got to half guard, got the kimura, pulled it out of the pocket. He straightened his arm. I was starting to hip shift and go for a sweep when we got reset to standing. I felt like I had a pretty strong position. Having watched the rest of the matches I wish I would have pulled guard. And I was definitely upset to have lost my position to standing.

Thanks. It was tough because we were just locked up the whole time. That's how my No Gi Worlds match went as well. So I came back home prepared to work on what to do when that happens. I'm confident in my guard game, and there is an adjustment i can make to the throw by I was wanting to do in both circumstances. So I'm working both of those so I can do better next time.

I don't understand why people tap to it. I get this a lot too, it really is a pressure tap and doesn't make any sense because there are lots of things you can do to relieve the pressure. Especially from half guard

That would be a "paper cutter" or "bread cutter" from half guard. There is no excuse to tap to one of these in No Gi, but I also find a lot of people that do. The 140lb black belt is always mind-boggled that people will tap to this. There are just so many ways to relieve the pressure

Top guy is absolutely stalling/ not trying to pass. He grabs wrist at 1:25 and does nothing significant till the ref warns them.

@@TrayCaddyyy yeah it was all kinds of bad form. 🤦‍♂️ But thank you 🙏 the biggest point of the short was the bailout when it went completely south. I spent a lot of time learning to how to be safe. And as painful as it is to watch this is apparently a good example of how to stop before it gets completely bad.
