,xsan,
I have an idea of what this game is and I watched. Joke aside. Nice guide, thanks! I just got demolished by blight and I was looking for some advice :)
At 4:59 you could mirror this tile placement and place the flax on the left edge. This exposes less green and more blue for future moves. Great numbers valuations, very helpful!
Nice explanation here Ben. Looking forward to the next upload.
There's no capable person in US... Trump and Biden both also sucks
How many range on bonus growth gather dahan there
You can pick any one land that has your presence, then gather one Dahan from an adjacent land.
@@benlikesgames3177 thank you so much🥹🥹🥹
You can zoom in on a card and right-click the threshold in order to not activate it.
Hi Ben! I'm collecting guides from all over the internet for the guides channel on the Second Wind discord server. The mods require that the person who made the guide is also a user on the server so people can easily contact a guide's creator with any questions they have after reading/watching the guide, though. Let me know if you'd be interested!
Appreciate the offer, but no thanks
@@benlikesgames3177 Thank you for the reply
first time here, great run!
Thanks for the video, I love rushing the fear deck. Why no Jagged Earth?
Intending to finish England series before adding the new expansion
This is a rock solid guide. Thanks!
Going top track G2 spam, only reclaiming once the whole game is fun. There is no escape from the endless dark!
Finally, I found a good tips video for Lisboa. Well done. Thank you very much
Good tips mate!
Finally been waiting on this!

Great guide, and the Beast Tyrant is my favorite Gloomhaven class! What is your reason for not taking Concentrated Rage for the final build? Venomous Ally seems a little out of place for an all-out bear build.
You know I'm looking at the cards again and I'm not really sure why. Maybe the bottom ranged attack seemed more generally useful in longer scenarios or I thought the poison would synergize well as a non loss. In reality I probably didn't read all the level 1 cards very closely. Concentrated Rage fits really well here.
Glad to see more gameply, looking forward to more of these kinds of uploads
Can this spirit be used with just the base game?
'Surrounded by the Dahan' has an Isolate effect, which was introduced in Jagged Earth. Everything else looks compatible with just the base game.
Something worth noting in any updated future guides for this beast of a team player: Players need to remember that they Special Rules treat more or less all your lands as adjacent! This is ridiculously broken in group play because G4 let's you place a Presence literally anywhere on the island. This makes everything you touch adjacent. It's like reverse isolate!
Only two at a time
Promo SM
Awesome, thanks
Fantastic explanation! I’m loving the depth this game has and you explored it without getting too complicated! Though a small effort in production (some background music, some words in the presentation ecc.) would exalt the quality of your video! Keep the good work going!
Very happy to see you uploading again! I think you have some of the best SI content on youtube. Would love to see more gameplay uploads especially the digital version
Much appreciated. Anything specific you'd like to see from the digital version?
@@benlikesgames3177 I honestly really liked your level 6 adversary games. Maybe some more with the horizons spirits? Or maybe some non digital version games showing your spirit island guides suggested openings
Cool I'll keep that in mind@@thedoublehelix356
This is an excellent video! Thank you!
With Immense aspect, you can't use the innate without playing cards. If you have any unused card plays (be it 1 or 6), you only gain a single element.
You're right, I misread it as saying 1 element per unused card play
@@benlikesgames3177 I also misread when I first played it!
0:35 i would like to add: there is also a ratio to the income. Cotton and Pottery have high cost, but low income relative to their costs. - in the Canal-aera i concentrate heavily to increase my income with the cheapest buildings possible. Coal and Iron can give u back the cost quite often, beer is always kinda good, consumer goods are mostly easy to place down (i always develop Lvl 2 and 5 away) - in the Rail-Aera i go full Victory points. If u already have a good amount of income, then u can aim for expensive buidlings easily. also, it has payed out for me, building good amount of coal mines around the aera change. Coal is much needed in the Rail-aera and gives the best income. good analysis anyway :) thank you !
Seems like mana bolt goes all the way with 07 initiative
Good point, could def flex in mana bolt if you need the utility.
Pretty interesting perspective. I am not sure how I feel about going down to three cards! I think the double G2 is best in this scenario.
I have a question, if you move an invader to a space with dahan in it, and then in ravage phase one of them died Does it triggers the responsibility to the dead special rule? The rule mention if your action "directly" lead to destruction of either dahan or invader you must destroy one presence and one energy you have is destruction as a result of ravage phase consider as inderect or direct?
Your (spirit) actions are mostly uses of powers, or if an event or fear card directs you as the spirit to do something. There may be some edge cases, but if you look near the end of my Shifting Ages video I took a picture of the action definitions. A Ravage counts as an invader action, so push/gather is your action and does not directly destroy the Dahan. An exception would be something like if Melt Earth into Quicksand was played and you moved Dahan into that land. In that example, your action of push/gather directly destroyed the Dahan.
@@benlikesgames3177 thankyou for the reply! So direct damage is from a power card otherwise the rules doesn't apply. Very helpful 👍
@@benlikesgames3177hi, event and fear card effects are not spirit powers even when they are the one who benefited or decide on its resolution
@@IamJFD You're right, events and fear actions don't trigger Finder's special rules (to amend my initial comment). The reasoning is that the fear/event cards are the source of the damage and not the spirit itself. Here is a nice summary from the game designer boardgamegeek.com/thread/2422588/article/34754940#34754940
More of these. Great content!
What do you think aboute the 2 card unique power that give fire+water and earth+moon that can be used on serpent only in solo mode? They have another spirit in the description, so you can't neither play additional card for obtain elements nor gain additional minor power (and maybe play it).
In solo there is an exception that lets you target yourself with 'another spirit' cards.
If I may add my favorite opening: I actually think it is worth taking a blight in one of the lands right off the bat and commit to G2 for first two turns. On turn 2, you get reclaim and you would want to use the energy gain from River's bounty and Boon for your energy gain supplementation. This should open enough to get the loop of spamming our innate in an obscene way. The quicker we get the Reclaim and 4 card play, the faster you can start grouping with all the Control mechanics of River and triggering that final tier of our Innate to wipe the floor with the Invaders. Taking a few blight so we can become an unstoppable AOE machine is very useful and worth it. Especially against Russia who has a ridiculous Explorer mechanic...
Ya I think getting Reclaim 1 earlier would be great
6 air is just ridiculous
I love this character. Haven’t played it YET, but will soon. Ordered game few days ago. I love the innates and being able to take many paths. If I was a spirit in this game I’d enjoy being this one most…has so many abilities up it’s sleeve
great and nice short video
Any game with corvids is an excellent game.
ThunderSpeaker sounds like a new car audio company.
Are you able to get two power cards with your one Unique Card since it says you can Target yourself to gain one and then also pay again to gain one
I would assume so since you become the targeted spirit
Time is a major problem for Cotton strategy in 3 and 4 man groups. You will have less actions making it more and more unlikely you will get that 3rd level 3 technology. In 3 player games Cotton is still somewhat manageable but Manufactured goods (with proper development) becomes better in 4 player games due to being able to complete it quicker and get that double hit from multiple eras. Great video a lot of good info with the point ratios and link points being shown visually.
Wife loves this guy(s). He is a pretty solid spirit but I think has a low ceiling to scale against harder enemies.
I definitely been experimenting with G3 on T1 because with Adversaries you need to be able to tackle some BS amount of invaders right at the beginning. It opens Manifestations as an option to blow up major problems. I find Sudden Ambush drops off in efficacy quickly and is worth dropping for a Major Power involving Dahan (like Sun Wings)
Good point, these videos are more of a starting point for the normal difficulty. I'd like to address adversaries in future vids.
@@benlikesgames3177 and even Adversaries can be a case by case. I imagine Sudden Ambush is good against Russia due to the Explorer rules. If one can group them together with a load of Dahan, Ambush can eliminate a group of them and leave 1 behind.
1:22 The animals don't really have there own point system cause in later rounds you trade them up to green or even blue and you shouldn't have any animals at the end of the game left. An island could get you income more quickly as the homeboard has +2 silver to cover and then next step you gain only +2 silver. Island don't have this interruption. I saw images were somebody only gets all the -1 filled on homeboard+ 2 income from island and the rest is islands or houses. Also you didin't spoke about emigration much in point value. Some games you will have 2-3 or even more emigrations, some games have no emigration at all. You should also calculate the costs for the dice roll action, cause it costs you most times at least 1 ressource or more. Some cards also could change your score, depending on how you play them or if you play them only for points.
Such a great spirit. Among the Horizon's spirits he is as popular in our group as the Mud Badger. Also one of the best users of the 011 growth pattern in no small part to that huge +4 energy G2 and 4 placement range on G3. Straight down the bottom track for 3-4 turns is definitely the right way to play him in most scenarios, but he's actually not bad with majors either. He's great when teaching newbies as he provides two different boons to help them out and can cross the table effortlessly with his G3. He also holds down his board impressively well. Most of the best majors in the game are on element for him, which is an nice upside as well. (and surprisingly affordable for him) His end state track is quite good as well if he ever manages to reach it. The biggest downsides imo are just lack of fear generation, and no defensive tools outside of pushing. Against adversaries like England, pushing just isn't good enough, and he can really struggle. His slow presence placement can be a problem, but getting a power card on 2 of the 3 growth options limits how often he needs to reclaim.
Conceptually I love the idea of this spirit, and I've put more time into it than any of the other Horizon's spirits. Unfortunately I've found it to be a little disappointing. The growth pattern you suggested is basically the only line of play for him, and the special ability railroads you into damage dealing powers over control or defense. Elements are normally on the top track to help major strategies trigger their innate, but Teeth's are on the bottom, meaning going down the bottom triggers the innate more reliably and gets you to more card plays. His strong initial defense and damage cards also give him the classic problem many 111 growth spirits have of reclaim looping often being the best strategy. On the bright side, people love his boon. It lets them solve early problem lands or else clear out their coastal city abnormally early. His playstyle is likewise fairly straightforward and makes a lot of otherwise only so-so cards into powerhouses. His mobility can be very useful if a teammate needs support. His tracks, while very long, do end with powerful numbers. He's reasonably good with even non-damaging minors, and turns just about every major into an even bigger haymaker.
After initial plays with all five Horizons spirits, I am afraid I have to agree. I think Teeth seemed the weakest.
You cant get the energy from groth before choosig another groth.
Respectfully disagree. You resolve one growth option prior to selecting and resolving your second growth option.
@@benlikesgames3177 I looked it up and you are right, growth options resolve completely before another one is chosen. Thank you for poiinting it out, I learned something new!
Trying this next game for sure!
This is a really good opening for Fathomless! Thank you!
This spirit seems like a really good combo with Ocean, since Ocean can drown the stuff Finder pushes into the coastal areas, thus working as a loophole. Yes pushing them into the sea itself is not happening, but Ocean can do that itself.
If the ocean spirit is in the game you can push enemys in the ocean because the ocean counts as swamp land too but if you do that, you will kill you own presence becqause the special rule from finder.
But yeah its a good combo
Hi Ben! Question time again re: Base Ocean vs Nature Incarnate With this new Deep function: isn't that completely breaking Ocean's weakest point? I read it and all I can imagine is Ocean now being able to dunk on the Invaders since using Deep 2/2 second tier, you can start turning lands into Ocean. Furthermore there are new coastal lands! This just sounds insane. I do think this is helpful on Solo at the cost of balancing Ocean's challenge to outright drown/eliminate invaders more deeply entrenched. What do you think? Is this completely breaking what makes Ocean Unique? On the flipside, does this make Mr Candyman spirit less effective since he can't target the coast (but now Ocean can just reach as far as he wants given enough time)?
Deeps also replaces Ocean's existing innates, and I would say Ocean Breaks the Shore is arguably the reason Ocean is so strong, so I don't think its as insane as you may think. It takes 3 turns to turn that first land into ocean, so I'm assuming they playtested it enough to make it playable. It does take away some of what makes base Ocean unique, but it's optional and you still get to play base Ocean if you want. Deeps Oceans is also super unique and looks really fun to play!
