I'd forgive the devs if they had the horses getting fatigued or even hurt after being ridden hard, requiring the player to manually dismount and give the animals time to rest or replaced with fresh horses.

i came across a very interesting, well-researched thesis that assyrian history was 334 too early and there were synchronous kings and dynasties. ua-cam.com/video/DebMnwAUr4s/v-deo.html he also has very cogent arguments on redating of hittite and egyptian chronologies. some of his other arguments can be proven wrong but the egyptian, hittite, and assyrian chronologies and dating appears to be credible. his numbers are more exact than those being put forward by david rohl, among others. are the arguments of mr. eguia on his page valid?

Half surprised Tushratta in the end did not ask Pharaoh to give him half of his Kingdom, all the gold from the Temples of Egypt and the Pyramids. Borrow him the whole Egyptian Royal Army and while at it also hand over the Throne of Egypt, like any good 'brother' would do. I've read about many strange characters throughout History, but Tushratta honesty from these correspondents between the Two Kings honestly sounds like he comes from a 90s sitcom.

Unfortunately, Creative Assembly have never quite figured out how to properly implement chariots into their games, they are either completely overpowered and roll over even braced phalanx of spears, or borderline useless, failing to deal solid damage even unarmoured archers. Pharaoh chariots currently fall into the latter category of mostly useless.

I have one little complaint, your claim about the firearms in Europe is about 1 century off. At the battle of Crecy 1346 early canons were already used. The last crusader battle were fought in the 1290s, therefor the comparison is a little difficult in my opinion

  • @Subutai_Khan

I feel like historical total wars previously were more grounded in the realities of technologies of the era so I am probably not buying the game. Shogun 2 and Medieval II will remain my favourites. I feel like the series largely fell off after Rome II and Atilla. Not that I expect a documentary but I feel like cavalry in the Bronze age is as bad as tanks in the Napoleonic period, guns in the Crusades as you say, or modern souped up AR platform rifles in World War I. I also think the tactical options in previous games were much better as are the general mechanics. Shogun 2 is obviously not completely accurate for example and we don't want it to be or we would be fighting battles for hours or days, but nothing the samurai and ashigaru are using strikes me as nearly as anachronistic as this. Indeed the armor and weapons they use look pretty much bang on accurate. One can argue the Bronze age is also just not the best period for a Total War game to begin with which might be a big part of why this game is running into so many problems. I think tech clashing together from different periods can certainly be fun, but I think this is what fantasy games are for same with games like Civilization or Age of Empires which are very clearly not based in a specific place and time but are some kind of alternate world or complete alternate timeline that has nothing to do with our own.

There is archaeological evidence about chariots and light cavalry used in the Bronze Age in that particular region of the world. Horses were domesticated around 3000 BC and light cavalry, equipped with javelins and swords, used in conflicts across Greece and Mesopotamia.

Assyria did have early cavalry, hell they practically invented it in the area but centuries later than the time period of this game. They were lightly armored but they originally kept a pilot and bowman on the horse Templar style lol (this obviously was inefficient and was changed relatively quickly). Edit: He does talk about this in the video.

@entirelyalive I'm 120ish turns into an Amenmesse campaign on 6 turns per year and I'm not noticing much of a difference to my first campaign. It was Mycenea on the default settings the big thing is characters age more slowly so I had to take fewer risks with Amenmesse as he does not start married or with an heir. Recruitment and other stuff all seem to be happening at the same rate per turn. I managed to make Amenmesse Pharaoh in his lifetime where as becoming Wanax took multiple generations

I am just done, having watched your entire Israel / Canaan podcast series. Man, thanks so much for this. I do not know a single person who could have succeeded at this complex treatment of history, archeology and biblical text. Pastors that I know would just rather stick with whatever happens in the soap opera dramatizations of the bible, sing some pop songs, then tell people to go home. It is sad that such high quality content has such a high entry of barrier (christians barely know the bible and people who are into history do not tend to be passionate christians). I am humbled and grateful for this podcast series, you are also a very entertaining speaker.
