Hi there. The Swell 16’ Oboe is a digital rank along with the Great 5 rank Mixture and the 32’ Pedal Trombone. In 2013 we tried to come up with space to install the 12 pipes for the pedal 32’ reed but it is so simply jam packed in there. We really tried to go that way but simply couldn’t.

Thank you so much for the kind words. The sound is a process. All the recorders are ZOOM products. I have one on each section (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) then for the spoken word and ambience I use a ZOOM H6N hanging right beside a speaker. The audio system is a closed so no audio outs. I’d like to add one more for congregation singing. Waiting for that ZOOM sponsorship. 😉

I'd used zoom products for quite a while too, switched over to an Olympus LS-p4, that I've had for a few years now, but I'm considering going back to zoom products, looking at their new essential line, as they've got accessibility in them. I have an H2 here, that I'd originally gotten for a relative, but she barely ended up using it. so she gave it back to me. So it's just here. Not sure what the value of it would be.

I always defaulted to pull the Flutes 8 and 4 with possibly a 2 and see what that sounds and then build from there. I would use the first hymn as the great experiment as to what I could use on that specific organ which usually tend to be funerals. I don’t know much about Germani and his complete legacy but I do know he was known for concertizing all over the world. He would often do series concerts playing the complete works of Bach. Quite an undertaking.

Absolutely true. The surround effect does wonders in getting the Catholics to get more invested. Here at the Basilica the organ was prepared with an Antiphonal division of 17 ranks but never installed. Do I ever miss that. Thank you so much for watching!

@@musicatthebasilica Oh wow, it was? very interesting. Curious what those 17 ranks are? When you say never installed, but prepared for, was it wired up, but no pipes are actually there? or pipes are there? 17 ranks sounds like a pretty good amount of organ, that could've been there. And was that prepared for back in 1919? or later?

The Casavant rep showed me briefly one time. It was spec’d out by Claver himself. I remember it was strings, soft flutes with a single mixture and one reed labeled “Horn 8”. It was a subdued division to assist with singing from the front and not too bombastic as it was planned to be installed in the arches in the ambulatory surrounding the Sanctuary.

@@musicatthebasilica that’s interesting, thanks for sharing. At my church we have an antiphonal division of about 33 ranks, it’s quite large, it has its own console so you could really call it an independent organ

@@musicatthebasilica oh wow very interesting, especially that Claver Had specked it out. Having even more strings would’ve been nice. What are the chances of ever getting that put in? Would there totally be room for it to ever go in? Love the strings that the organ already has. I’d say they’d be my favourite part of it. At what time is the mass that gets uploaded to youtube, if I ever wanted to come and hear the organ live?
