Nazareth Kilmarnock
Filmed in 1952, a film by Bert Mocogni. A look at the Poor Sisters of Nazareth and their charitable work at Nazareth House in Kilmarnock that operated for around a 100 years up to the 1980s.
Despite its good work, the House and the Sisters later became associated with child abuse and "unorthodox" methods of discipline following a number of inquiries.

The Campaign to Save Irvine Royal Academy (1983)
Переглядів 3172 роки тому
To be honest, Irvine Royal Academy (IRA) was the only decent school in Irvine in the 80s. Naturally this meant that the local authority definitely wanted to close it down. However, as this BBC film shows, there was some pushback from the townsfolk and Strathclyde Regional Council decided that discretion was the better part of valour and relented. This was first shown on BBC2 at 1.38pm on Monday...
How Irvine Dealt with the Closure of the Royal Ordnance Factory in 1958
Переглядів 4232 роки тому
In 1958, Irvine's Royal Ordnance Factory closed down with the loss of hundreds of well-paying jobs. How did Irvine deal with this? This report from the BBC's "Checkpoint" programme, which ran from 1963 to 1965, reveals the development of the former factory site to create an industrial estate. Later much of the site became the Beach Park. NOTE: About one minute of audio is missing for the factor...

Kilmarnock, Worst Run Prison in Scotland?
Переглядів 20 тис.4 роки тому
I claim no copyright over this video, which appears to come from a long-forgotten TV documentary about Ayrshire's main prison, HMP Kilmarnock. The video, much of which was filmed secretly, reveals the poor standards at work in the prison and prison staff overly deferential to the whims and wishes of the patients.
Top screws 😂
Most currupt
Fun fact. When these, "hard men", get transferred to, HMP Lowmoss. 8 out of 10, refuse to get out the wagon. Out of fear, as they have no friends there.
Aye they're aw scared to leave Kilmarnock 😂💯👍
@the weegie… @TeknoFobe…. Ur they? … Honest…. Me smells shite. Kit change fur the per ae ye. Cupla hotrodz.
@@Teknofobe I was in the old lowmoss wi plenty of Ayrshire boys. They all got on quite well. Seen loads of non Ayrshire boys come in to billet one and see a skinny old man they called Scary Wick Wilson sitting in the dinning hall and instantly dubbed their doors. Even some from my own area.
@BeneathTheGold was in billet 9 with around 20 Ayrshire guys. Got on fine with them. I still stand by the fact that many refused to get off the bus. Pretty sure they didn't realise it's next stop was Bar. Or they'd have probably got of at the ranch.
They were scared to go on the draft. Slashing wrists and shit.
Magic! I was born there (on Waterside) 4 years before. Thanks for posting this wee gem! Yes, unfortunately IDC ripped the heart out of this lovely wee town by building that abomination of a shopping mall where the old bridge was, and demolishing a fair chunk of Fullarton. Very sad…
Ruined the town tho
What a bloody joke get there sweeties and crisps newspaper wonder what else they get government ought to toughen up
They ruined Irvine in the 70s with all the brick and block horrible buildings. The magnum was exceptional though! Now Irvine is dwindling like every other town in Scotland.
Husband said the best jail food ever and canteen ok
I originally come from Kilwinning. You could drive in the town centre or Main street up until 1982? Not quite sure exactly when in the 80's it was pedestrianised. But I lived in Claremont crescent just off the A737. My grandparents lived in the Woodwynd. Looking at the main street now, it looks absolutely shocking. It was a busy wee town back in the 70's and 80's. The pub might be the Lemon tree. Dino Biondi (legend!) the Biondi's are well known! Good to see Dino is still in business! I believe Paul Biondi shut up his restaurant (Trattoria Toscana) I visited that regularly! Charlie Burns shoes (An old pal Graeme Burns is the son I was at school with). I have so many stories about life there!
Best jail about
Bullies and thats the officers there a joke its shocking the amount of staff go through these doors of this prison
I went here from Barlinnie prison when it first opened in 1999. It’s mad to think that was a quarter century ago. There was 2 cons in the hall when I got there. Everything was brand new. Quilt, bed, prison clothes etc. in Barlinnie you got around £7.50 a week to spend at canteen. £2.50 ppc and around £5 a week for working in the sheds. When we got to Kilmarnock I got over £60 odd for canteen just for walking in the door. In bar the canteen was just smokes, crisps and a couple o chocalate bars. The most luxury item they sold was a jar o jam. In Kilmarnock the canteen was like a shop. They sold all sorts o shit. In bar or any sps ran nicks the screws had the places well under hand. In Kilmarnock the screws weren’t screws. They had been collecting trollys in super market car parks and stacking shelves the week before. To say they were completely and utterly clueless and gullible is an understatement of epic proportions. They weren’t just clueless though. Some of em were corrupt. Or just scared of the cons. There was an old “screw” (I think his name was colin. Don’t quote me on that, it was a long time ago) that brought us in bottles o vodka. They would pass and collect drugs from other wings for us. One sat in a cell with a good few of us snorting tems n shit. I think he may have even snorted one himself. The place was awash with drugs especially compared to any sps nick with the exception of the old low moss. After a while when the place was almost full there was people sneaking big huge kitchen knifes from the cooks back to their cells. And using em. If anyone has ever done time in an sps jail and worked in the sheds with tools or in the cooks you’ll understand how absolutely insane that is. In bar or any sps nick they would lock the whole entire prison down and systematically search every inch if even so much as a tattie peeler went missing. To see people cutting about with big ten inch kitchen knifes was crazy. The lack of security from screws not having a clue made the prison extremely dangerous. Even though there was cameras there ended up being some pretty violent incidents. The screws would run out the hall when it kicked off. I had never seen anything like it and have never seen anything like it since. I loved it. As far as prisons go I mean. Sorry for the novel but there was a lot to tell.
What are tems?
@@andrewd9037 Temgesics. Opiate based pain killers. They were a common thing people would get in parcels at visits back in the day. They were common back then even out side but I’ve not seen em in years. You snort em and you get a pretty strong buzz off em.
@@andrewd9037 They are a type of opiate based pain killer that was common back in the day and were what most cons got in parcels at visits. They are really small but potent white pills. You don’t see them nowadays. Well I haven’t at least. You snort one or even half of one and it gives a good buzz very similar to tramadol except stronger.
@@andrewd9037it’s short for temgesic. A painkiller that they crush up and snort. I’ve heard them being called Jimmys as well. I think they were more popular in prison that they were outside as it was a friend of mine that first told me about them after he got released from a sentence. Every days a school day as they say lol 😂👍🏼
@Andrew d…. Tems are Temgesic… back then they sold for a fiver a shot….
wow

Holiday camp the reason why they build walls around prison is to keep people from getting in for a holiday
At last I’ve seen inside the factory where so many folk in the Three-Towns worked, including my father, aunt, my mother till she married my dad - met him there of course. I’ve seen Ardeer Rec ( Christmas dance supplied tangerines for our stockings each year!) and Africa House and some of the work folk did. I remember the cooling tower, whose prominence in the area was large, and the day it fell down never to be rebuilt (no casualties as I recall) The prosperity of the town’s relied on it, especially when cheap package trips abroad replaced going doon the watter for the fair.
