    Would you suggest trying a pair of lighter weight Selvedge before jumping straight into the 21oz jeans? Thanks Tom

      @KevzChaos 20 днів тому

      It depends on your personal preference. In my opinion a pair of 14oz selvedge feels substantially thicker than a standard pair of Levi’s from a department store so 21oz will be tough to break in for a novice. But I am use to traditional thick duck work pants so they are comparable

    What size did you get? It looks like we’re around the same size but I’m wondering if you got the sleeve shortening

    • @KevzChaos
      @KevzChaos 21 день тому

      I got the extra large and it’s about a inch to a inch & a half in width shorter than I would like for layering a hoodie underneath. If you are my size I would get the xl with a 2” hem on the sleeves. Mine is stretching out nicely though

    I'm a size 42 and looking at Brave Star to get my first pair of selvage jeans. Naked and famous/Undranded Canada are also an option for me. I cantacted Gustin and reqested that they start offering size 42 only in their straight fit cut. I would get the Gustin Japan Red Fire jeans if they had size 42. The double knee Brave Star jeans are very unique and I like the 10 ounce denim version for a pair of pants to do actually work in.

      I have the brave star double knee 10 oz , they are very baggy . Great pockets but I’m not sure about the way they fit me. I have a pair of UB 621 21 oz on the way to me hoping next week .

    Agree with everything you said and being in the same boat I would advise competitive 40+ year old people to take it really easy. Learning Jiu Jitsu is a marathon not a sprint! It is super fun and addictive but equally dangerous and not sustainable if you go 100% every training session. Warming up, focusing on basic techniques and tapping out when more experienced people get you in headlock would make your life more enjoyable in and out the mat. Not to mention proper rest, supplements and stretching. I hope you get that back injury sorted mate! Thanks for the video.

    I think to do jiu jitsu without getting injured you really need to supplement your training with weight lifting to toughen up the body and have that muscular padding. Just like with construction work if your body isn't resilient enough you will tear stuff and get injured inevitably and jiu jitsu itself isn't enough to do that.

  • @rob1996ization

    Kevin was it? My Name is Brock, Mid 40s, Upstate NY here also. Husband, Father etc... I'm personally not into retro clothing as I went Military at 19, and really didn't join the workforce where I had to wear anything but what I was issued to wear. But I dig the Jiu Jitsu over 40 video. I always wanted to take martial arts training, but never got formal training besides that of what the Military taught us in basic, and some private lessons as a kid in Jeet Kune do. Basically enough to make me over confident and lead me to getting my ass kicked when I got too drunk in my 20s. Anyway, thanks for video man. I hear you brother. Japanese made denim is better than American made denim. If you want superior denim but prefer it made in America then there are companies in the US using Japanese denim to make their products. Japan is not communist and are an ally to the US. They also have higher standards when it comes to manufacturing. (Generally speaking)
