Teaching Yoruba to children and young people in London
Переглядів 7 тис.5 років тому
A new centre in Peckham is teaching Yoruba to children and young people of Nigerian heritage. Its founder started the Culture Tree centre after struggling to find resources to help teach her children her mother tongue. So how important is it to keeping languages alive in 2nd and 3rd generations? Tolu Adeoye has been finding out.
This is brilliant.😅
This case was all over in november 2000
At school even people knew what damilola taylor looked like
BUT THEY STILL BOW AND COW TOO THE ROYAL FAMILY, THAT LIVE IN LUXURY AT THE EXPENSE OF THE TAXPAYERS
Anjem Choudary's research claims that the killers were Satanic, and used dark webs to get inspiration. (may PBUH accept Brother and Martyr Damilola)
So many homeless women in Los Angeles too. Shame on the city! Very sad 😔
I'm Ok. Retired at 49. I'm now 70. My pension has cost of living. Many of my friends here in Canada are strictly on Canada pension and old age pension. They are Ok only because they own their homes outright and they can differ their property taxes.
We care, but many women are struggling too. Wish I could help.
I'm a disabled homeless woman. Nobody cares.
Im so sorry to hear that. God Bless you 💙
There are thousands fewer pensioners now (after Covid)… So surely they can now give more to the surviving pensioners!?
The gov are greedy sadly
They can give more here in the US,but illegals are more IMPORTANT then American citizens!!!
@@dwindlefoddl7225 Everyone is important.
@@fishandchips9033 No...not really...take care of Veterans FIRST...then seniors...
@@fishandchips9033 And WE OWE ILLEGALS NOTHING.!!!! NOTHING..!!!
I’m very fortunate. My parents preached to me over and over to save 10% from each check. I got so sick of until it added up enough to seem worth it. Now I’m 72, retired at 60 and living the good life. Guess what I preached to my kids over and over? 🤗
Thank u Tolu.
Yoruba is one of the languages spoken in Nigeria. There are many more

Are there any available resources out there to teach kids yoruba?
I actually have a 7 step that I have put together that I can send to you if youd like. I have to say Culture tree Tv has been a major help in my journey. My son is 5 and speaks, writes and reads yoruba fluently. 5 years ago, people told me it's hard to do and that Spanish people only did it because some of their parents coudlnt speak English and also because they had a community around them. Not necessarily true. I have done it and currently teaching my 2 year old daughter. Thank you Culture tree for your passion in helping to keep our heritage going, Good work. There are lots of people out there who want to and just don't know how to start. I am a proud mama raising my kids in the US and they speak yoruba and English fluently. Your kids can do it too!
@@sanaa1537 thanks Sanaa. This is encouraging to hear. Yes please I would love to have the 7 step plan. Let me know how I can get it
@@teeboss03. If you are comfortable sharing your email. I am more than happy to email it to you. I happen to put what we did together last week for my friends who were amazed at hearing my.kids speak it.
@@sanaa1537 tayooyesile@gmail.com thanks
@@teeboss03 no problem. You will get an email from Aderonke Fadumiye deronny2000@yahoo.com. I will send it between today and tommorrow. Its 3 pages but bulleted and easy to read. Good luck! Feel free to let me know how it's going and if you have any questions. God bless.
One very important reason for keeping Yoruba alive is that there are only two tonal languages in the world. Yoruba is one and Mandarin is the other.
That's just blatantly false. Huge swaths of languages from Asia, Africa and the Americas are Tonal. Thai, Vietnamese, Punjabi, Navajo, Zulu, Igbo, just to name a few.
So false. How do people just blatantly declare something this opposite to the truth?
