Travelling between Kamloops and Kelowna British Columbia Canada, I was stopped and accused of Excessive Speeding which is more than 40km over the posted speed limit. My dashcam video is the only thing that saved my car from being falsely impounded and me getting a huge fine and huge demerit points on my license.

    After driving for a week with the battery monitor in place I can confirm that the car supplies 12.81 volts to the 12 volt system while the car is in motion with the "READY" light on. At stops it will jump up to 13.61 for a minute or so, and during charging of the big battery the 12 volt system will see 14.60 volts for about 5 mins at the beginning of the charge. The entire remainder of the time the car is in motion the battery only see 12.81 volts. This is too low and will damage the battery prematurely. I will post another video of a possible solution for this issue.

  • @glenk2254
    @glenk2254 2 місяці тому

    That makes no sense. The HV to 12V conversion should be active whenever in READY mode. Otherwise, what powers your car's computers, accessories and lights?

      @waltersavonian7551 2 місяці тому

      Yes I agree, I just installed the battery monitor a day ago so I will run the car for a few weeks and check the data I get to see why my battery keeps slowly going dead. It seems that the DC to DC converter does supply 12.81 volts while driving. I’m wondering if this is enough?

    • @glenk2254
      @glenk2254 2 місяці тому

      @@waltersavonian7551 That seems a low. In your video in Ready mode wasn't it over 14V? That's what I would expect at all times. Try turning on the headlamps on high beam to check the voltage under high DC load, maybe even the heater blower full. The A/C uses the HV directly.... I had a failure of my 12v in my Prius once. The wife left the rear hatch open and there was a constant high drain. Good luck!

    • @waltersavonian7551
      @waltersavonian7551 2 місяці тому

      @ yes once the car is started in ready mode the battery is held around 14.2 volts for about 5 minutes even while moving but after that it drops to 12.8 volts while moving and rises to 13.8 volts when stopped, once moving again it returns to 12.8. I’ll drive the car for a few weeks with the battery monitor and more complete data as to what Toyota is trying to do here.

      yes its costs the same to charge your car on 120 or 240 since the watt hours used are the same in either case. Thank you so much! I purchased a Japanese second hand 2014 Prius PHV yesterday and I had to change the Japanese 200V plug into an Australian one. Once I opened the Japanese plug, I realised that their neutral (white) wire is corresponding to the Australian live (brown) wire. So, I was really struggling online to find relevant info till I realise Japan uses similar split-phase as US and Canada; I then found your video which further confirms that there isn't really a neutral wire in such a split-phase plug. So, my Australian plug is working fine now.

    Just cleaned up the speedometer board on my '92 4runner and got it working right, whereas before the speed wasn't showing until the speedometer warmed up. My capacitors weren't popped, but at the end I noticed the smaller one had leaked some of the gel out the bottom. This is probably similar to an issue on the board of a '92 3000gt, where it was known that the capacitors would start leaking over time (when depended on temperatures and humidity), and mess up the board. Since I didn't have new capacitors on hand I didn't replace the Toyota ones, and cleaning up the board with isopropyl (just like in your second video) got it working again. Thanks for the video!

So, another reason to cancel our order for the Prime. The fact we were told the car could be charged with 220 volts without buying a separate charger is yet one more detraction. Where we live, even though most power is generated by hydro, the cost to consumers is excessive. Been waiting 17 months already for the thing to land, the dealer Rep. didn't even know the car could be plugged in !. Nice guide on pulling it apart Walter, I have the same unit. I had not used for about two years, and had bought a two replacement bulbs back then, that you have to install the bulb itself into the bulb cartridge housing as I was having trouble finding whole bulb cartridge assembly. One of the metal clips that holds the bulb broke at it's bend point, so I have only one clip holding in place now with the brand new bulb- seems to be holding fine with just the one metal clip though. After sliding the bulb assembly/cartridge back in and screwing in the cartridge with the two screws, (I think this was an issue before) the power is not even coming on. I know I have power going to the unit and I have reseated the bulb cartridge several times (thinking maybe the bulb contacts were not contacting), but plugging in, turning the small power rocker switch on, the projector will not turn on and no sign of power anywhere, i.e. no LED's come on either. I even checked for power on the female side of the power cable that plugs into the back of the unit, so I know it is getting power to the back of the unit for sure. Not sure what it could be, maybe it's the power supply itself on mine.... I guess next step to take, is to take it apart to see if I trace/troubleshoot what is wrong inside. It looks like a lot of work and may be just easier to buy another projector, but I remember when I purchased this unit, it cost me a lot of money at the time. It is a shame to replace it, as it puts out a great picture and I just used it for the home basement, for evening shows/movies, when I was using it three years ago and before, maybe went through three bulbs over time I have used it. Now I have one new bulb in the cartridge and another spare, but projector now dead. Any suggestions?

      @@waltersavonian7551 Good suggestion, but sadly it is pushed in all the way, double checked it.... UGH, wish it was something that simple. Maybe I should try putting my second brand new bulb in, see if that does anything..... wait this gives me another idea as I remember reading there was also a switch for the outside lamp cover switch, so I double checked that, and as it turns out : manually pushing it in, did the trick... so the cover for some reason was not pushing it in far enough to engage the micro switch. I ended up just adding a really small screw on to the end of the cover pin, extending it out 3-4 mm more and this did the trick. I thank you very much for your suggestion, as it engaged your idea to one I thought of because of your suggestion and my thought of checking the lamp cover switch. Weird that it all of a sudden wasn't pushing in far enough, anyway, so happy that through you, I have resolved the problem. Back in business just in time for Easter, Thanks Big time Walter!!!

I did not payed attention on the dashboard at that time when I've bring it home . I've dismantled all the interior including the centre console , where the automatic transmission shifter resides . I've reinstall that part already and when I started the engine and pressed the brake pedal , the shifter would not move from park position until I depress the red button . The other issue is the 4wd green light it's on and the switch on the transmission lever won't work at all . If you could give me some tips I'll appreciate it .

      Hmm, mine takes the 2hours 10mins as mentioned in the manual for the car on 240 volts. However I have found if I plug into 2 into volt outlets at a commercial building that has 3 phase power then there is only 208 volts between phases and I take more than the 2:10 prolly more like 2:40

    So when I take off from a stop in my 95 4runner; I have this problem that I'm almost certain this could be the cause Here's how it goes, press on gas from a stop, when vehicle accelerates I get a slightly hard shift back, like it jolts back, it also makes a grinding noise right under where the shift column is, accelerates better after hard shift, also notes vehicle does have moments that feel like Ira dragging Could the issue you had be the cause of my issue, also adjusted kixkdown cable back fo spec and it shifts a little better but I feel the shifts and when they happen, it starts to feel like it bucks

      Ok I’m guessing you have an automatic tranny, so I’m not sure how that will react to the issue I was having. You can check if you have the same issue by placing your tranny in 4 high then checking if the front driveshaft is free to turn, there should be very slight resistance to rotation of the driveshaft, if it is very stiff to turn then you may have the same issue

    How's this been for you in the long run everything working just fine? Also pro tip. You can always get your dedicated outlet in the garage and throw a two pole breaker and turn it into a 240v and label it so no one plugs anything in.

    Found circuit board cooked near 100uf capacitor outer leg. All the coating on copper dark coloured and flaking off. Prior to failure a new battery was installed and noted voltage reg was clicking lots at idle. Volts at battery 14.5 to 14.9 so may have been cause. To be fixed...

    Great work! My W20000 shuts off after 45 seconds running and the indicator lights say to replace bulb, even with only couple hundred hours. Replaced with a new bulb and still does the same thing. What could possibly be the issue?

      not trying to be a smart ass but did you reset the bulb life hour meter in the projector menu?

    Similar issues with the dash clock on these hiluxes. However the fix is easy. Re-soldering the components on the back of the circuit board and it starts working again. Fixed mine this way on a 2002 Hilux Tiger (3RZ engine with Manual 5 speed tranny).

    Good stuff. I own a 2022 Prime slow charging on 120V so will give this a try on 240V but not with extension cords. Will wire up a separate wall receptacle with 2 hots. Thanks.

      I might also try this. I've been trying to find a video that talks about the Toyota OEM charger and what it can handle. I also own the 2022 Rav4 Prime with the 6.6KWh ob charger. For now, I just charge the unit from my 120 and it takes around 12hrs to fully charge from 0 to 100. I've been looking to buy the EV Doubler from Amazon that serves the same purpose as demonstrated in the video. It takes power from to separate outlets to produce the 240v. The ev doubler is around 100$ on Amazon.

    Awesome video!! Straight to the point, no excess bs babble or annoying music!! 😎👍 I just bought one on discount, I only run 33’s figured theres no point buying the smaller ones when the other two smaller options (33” & 35” I believe) were about half the CFM… I bought this for the CFM!! 4 tires in 5mins!! And no cooldown time!
