A Sea-Urchin? Beautiful.
Copyright 😂
Excellent!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks like a sea urchin skeleton.
That's the consensus! Thanks for watching!
I like the 'hidden' lids! Very nice so don't beat yourself up over it!
Thanks Jim, I appreciate it!
The "only two semesters of community college" brainwave was so smart and the quip so funny! Nice bowl
Haha thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
So cool, man.
Thank you!
great idea to join in the fun. we could all join in and call it "sideways". Anyway your version of the stacked boxes looks amazing.
I'd definitely encourage people to try the projects!
Lots of fun to watch! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Bit of steam (eg damp cloth + hot iron) can get rid of even serious dings and dents. Nice set of boxes.
Great tip, thank you! I'll give it a try next time!
Excellent idea.
Thank you! Cheers!
This is my second video of yours that I have watched, Brad. You have definitely earned my subscription and I look forward to watching your back catalogue. I feel like we are at a similar skill level, which makes your comments and your work very relatable because wherever you seem to thrive or struggle similar to where I do. I think I might be more comfortable with spindle work than you are, me needing to always take those few extra passes to get the bottom of a bowl where I want it. But your mindset is one that I really appreciate, growth as a person. Well done on your take of this month's project. I'm really glad those four took on this big endeavor and I'm grateful that you three are expanding it further. I'll admit I only regularly watch two of them, for reasons I don't need to elaborate on. I'll just say that you're production values are very good and I always prefer the face and commentary of the person I'm watching. Keep up the quality content! I look forward to seeing you in my feed. 😊
Thank you so much for the kind words, Jay - I appreciate you taking the time to leave notes like this. I'm looking forward to continuing to earn your subscription through high-quality content that shows all of my successes and many failures. Cheers, and happy turning!
Beautiful!
Great job on this project. Love the inset lids. Turners that get fixated on only turning bowls do not know what they are missing. Thanks for throwing another pebble into the woodturning pond. So exciting to see where all of the ripples go!
Thank you, Mike, and thank you for all of the years of excellent content! You're an inspiration in the turning space, and the community appreciates all that you've done for us.
Masterpiece it most certainly is!
NICE!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
That came out VERY good. You are such a good artist and craftsman. When I saw that surface the firsts thing that came to mind was dry brushing.
Thanks for watching, and for the kind words!
👍Growing as a person!
Trying, anyway haha
Great idea guys, Thank you Brad for very kind words and compliments. I look forward to see what your versions will look like. Love your idea, very nicely done sir
Thank you, Tomislav, and thank you for all of the excellent content - I'll be picking up one of your scrapers here shortly! Great idea for this month's project, as well!
Yes 👍 very sculpture and technology thanks for your video
That’s awesome! So cool❤
Lots of good info and encouragement, Brad, and something different to our 4-Ways outcomes. I thinkk we each had our moments with this project. And many thanks for posting the links to our videos.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Richard - you're a good sport for letting me and my friends play along. I have an enormous amount of respect for you as a turner, and I love your UA-cam channel (my 3 year old son knows your name because I watch on the weekends). I've been recommending your books whenever I am lucky enough to do a demo, and it means a lot to me that you took the time to chime in here. Thank you for putting your time and effort into teaching the rest of us how to express ourselves on the lathe and make the most of the wood we're lucky enough to get. Cheers from California
Nice job! I just finished Kerry’s video and enjoyed both.
Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it!
nice work!
Thanks for watching!
Great looking project. Will be nice seeing both of your takes on the 4 ways ideas. I sometimes make them too.
Thanks for watching! feel free to share yours in the comments, too! I'd love to see them
Could you have turned the entire length and then cut them into segments? Rather than as individual boxes
That's what Kerry did, and it seemed to go okay - worth exploring as a possibility!
@@qbranchwoodworks It’s doable, but you’ll need to keep your mortises and tenons tight if you want to piece the entire piece together. That said, there’s always a workaround. One of my mortises ended up slightly too big, making the joint a bit loose, so I had to use the vacuum pump and sand each piece individually. Nice video, brother. Cheers!
Neat, I'll take 10.
How's Christmas 2026 sound?
Dang what a great idea, and you could not pick two greater guys to join the endeavor. Andrew and Kerry both are amazing humans and great turners! Way to go!
Thanks as always Tony! I'm looking forward to working with those guys more in the future!
Like the bead feature to the base of the individual boxes. Nice touch.
Thank you! Had to do something to that big empty carve-out. Thanks for watching!
Looks psychedelic!
Excellent work and I really enjoyed the commentary - we can learn so much watching other artists and hearing their processes! Looking forward to your next project!
Thanks, I appreciate you watching and the kind words!
24k views! Killin' it Bro!
Sometimes I get lucky 😂
Very nice, piece of art.
Now fill that sea urchin with Ferrero Roche chocolates and you've got a great center piece for the dinner table.
Haha wrinkly everything! I like it!
Also, the rose engine cut bowl was a brilliant idea.
Hi Brad, I didn't realize you had a UA-cam channel. I've tried guilding a few times. Things I found.... A tack cloth removes the wee bits of glitter from the piece. Cut the foil with sharp scissors into wee squares and use either a small makeup brush which you either very slightly dampened the end, or smear Vaseline incredibly thin onto a surface and lightly dab your brush, then either method should allow you to pick up the leaf and place it. I'll go check out your channel now. Debs (aka badlybehavedelm)
Oh hey, great to see you over here! Thanks for the tips! I clearly had no idea what I was doing 😂 Bookmarking this for my next gilding adventure - thanks for the wise words!
Beautiful work.
Thanks for watching!
Looked like burnt loaf for a bit.
agreed - definitely "left it in the oven" vibes
Q! (okay... Brad...) you absolutely killed it on this one! Just a beautiful work of art... that 1mm accuracy really made it! (LOL) - Love your content and all you do for the turning community!
Thanks, as always, for the support, Tony!
I think it's beautiful!! What'd the wife think? 😊
Thanks for watching! I got a nod of approval, which is pretty good for me 😂
I admire your endurance. I couldn’t do it bc repetitive actions trigger my ADHD, but I can def see using this process as an accent feature on a project.
I hear you - I broke it up into many small sessions to avoid my own focus issues. Thanks for watching!
This is special.
Thank you so much for watching!
@@qbranchwoodworks regards from southern Chile.
I've seen a LOT of words turning videos over the years. Probably in the high hundreds, if not four figures. This has to be THE most amazing piece I have ever seen.
That's extremely kind of you, thank you! I appreciate you watching and leaving some kind words - made my day.
It's an urchin skeleton
Interesting
Confused over the answer to the abrasive paste question: the mix of walnut oil, refined beeswax and carnauba wax contains no abrasives. Am I hearing it right?
You're right - we left our diatomaceous earth, which we use. Crushed Tripoli will work in a pinch
Nice work
Great explanation of what you were doing and planning to achieve . And really nice bowls . The one which you said was Walnut reminded me a lot of Bubinga . 👍
Thanks for watching, Jim!
The artwork/design is really cool. I can say that (as someone who doesn't know the first thing about woodwork or shop safety) that I was absolutely, genuinely terrified watching you craft it. I won't give an opinion on the substantive safety of what you were doing, but the optics of that asymmetric lathe turning were crazy. Well done not screaming. You're a braver man than I am.
Haha thanks for watching! IT's definitely intimidating the first few times, but I think it's a testament to what somebody can get used to that it doesn't bug me much any more. Worth a try if you ever get around to it!
Reminds me of what we call kina in NZ, aka sea egg :)
Ooh interesting, I'll have to look it up!
