Frosty the Snowman for Four Trombones - Stephen Lange, Angel Subero, Arr. by Robert Elkjer
Nothing says 'Merry Christmas' quite like Frosty the Snowman! It's made even better with a great friend, Angel Subero, Day-Z the mini schnauz, and the great Robert Elkjer arrangement for four trombones, and of course - beer. We would like to dedicate this video to all of the freelance musicians in the New England area whose livelihoods have been adversely affected by the Covid Crises. Please consider visiting www.nemrf.org and making a donation to help these folks out. We hope you like our video and hope it helps bring joy to you and yours! Feliz Navidad!

“Laser Focused” Trombone Teaching and Performing Techniques
Переглядів 5 тис.5 років тому
Not just for trombonists, here is my first of hopefully many trombone videos. In this video, I introduce the idea of using a head mounted laser to help increase head awareness while playing. You can find the same laser in this video at www.optp.com, or you can easily make a version yourself for less than $15.

Shostakovich Prelude for tenor and bass trombone
Переглядів 6 тис.12 років тому
Stephen Lange, tenor trombone, joins Gerry Pagano in Douglas Yeo's arrangement of the Shostakovich Prelude No. 16, recorded in 2008. As heard on Pagano's solo bass trombone disc, "Departure," available on iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.
Is that a Getzen 4147IB horn being played? It sounds great!
Although I haven't tried the laser yet, this idea of wrong/excessive motion really resonates with me. I've had poor left hand support for the weight of the instrument, and I have used head, jaw and other body movements to try to "assist" in producing notes I was worried about missing-to the extent that my embouchure function was undeveloped. Even a short stint of keeping my head still and relaxed has allowed me to obtain correct angle, embouchure, and relaxation-and has started to solve the problems I was unable to solve before I realized the destructive habits I have had.
Please do more like this!
Superbe. Bravo!
Very interesting ideas. As someone who is battling physical tension things like this offer a good training and different perspective. The only thing I would say is that when I play, if I don't move, I can hardly play at all - so for me cutting down the movement for me is the answer, not trying to eradicate it altogether. Ultimately I hope to settle my playing down so I can stay still most of the time, but everyone is different - and that is why things like this can only help understanding, awareness and learning.
Thanks for watching! You aren't the only one who has said this - "if I try to stay still, I can't play at all - it's like I'm filled with more tension!" The main point here is not to eliminate ALL movement, or say that movement is "bad." The take away here is getting feedback that can help inform you of some potential movements that you may wish to address. For me, it was when I breathe - the laser would bounce all over the place! One idea is put the laser on, then play a simple melody while "drawing" circles on a nearby wall. In this case, your body is "moving," but you could also still potentially identify some unintended movements you wish to address. I'll try to make another video soon about this! Thanks for the comment, and best wishes.
Where can I get this piece?
Your tone and articulations are so perfect!
Anyone else recording rn?
Sehr gute etüde, aber schwierig.
Beautiful sound..beautiful attack....and very nice soft playing....bravo ...Efren NEC 1985
Dang, not bad! Keep working and you might make Allstate this year, Mr. Lange
Amazing playing and recording! It sounds great. This will be a huge help for my students! It inspired me to create my own videos to help students practice the All-State music too. I would love some support/feedback so please check it out!
Anyone know what mouthpiece he’s using
What do you do at the fast part at 1:27 for getting out to those ds
Bravo, maestro. An absolutely superb rendition of a most beautiful étude.

Yes!! This is what I needed I was stuck in a block but this is helping me understand the music. Thank you so much for this
0:53 omg
Love how this guy has a "smile you're on camera" sign in the background
@communist cuber lol!
Fantastic resource! As always, you make everything sound effortless.
Any tips about making the high notes go in seamlessly with the lower notes?
Lots and lots of lip slurs and flexibilities - especially those that start low, go high, then back down. See how relaxed you can be, and embrace the change-over points for each slur. Good luck, and thanks for listening!
Lol theres an alto player in my band with your same name
A lord, a savior. The hero we didn’t deserve, but the hero we needed
Oh man, Steve, that was amazing. I wanted to ask about your very cool iPad music stand thing! Cheers!
Thanks for listening! Manhasset makes the iPad stand attachment that can sit in top of either a microphone or in my case, the manhasset travel stand with removable desk.
Absolutely incredible playing. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate this piece for us high school trombonists!
Exactly I’m a freshman trying to wrap my head around this thing
@@tgoff135 same here.
Is measure 15 note 7 supposed to be a c?
Communist Cuber I’m pretty sure that’s a B flat
@@tgoff135 hmmm
YES FINALLY!!!
Adam Hanna are you auditioning for Texas all state too? 🤪
@@langebone Haha! No. No, I will not be auditioning for TMEA this year. I'm just glad to see new Steve Lange videos!!
When will Steve Lange put a new video up? This is amazing sound!!!
Amazing. Steve lange's sound is so beautiful
Good idea, a very clear demonstration tool that could uncover (and help to fix) excess motion in our playing, and many players do move far too much. It is less expensive than a video recording too. Some warnings (caveats) however. 1-Many singers and players of other instruments would prefer to allow motions, for either technical or emotive reasons. 2-Rigidity is generally not a positive thing, so DO stay relaxed. (Pay more attention to relaxation than to the red dot.) I’d consider this as a wonderful tool to use occasionally, much like a tuner or a breath measuring rig. Don’t let it adversely affect your style and phrasing, your reading, your ensemble playing. Play beautifully in any case, in every case.
I agree completely. Motion isn’t always a bad thing
Ty
This is awesome! I've been focusing a lot on extra movement for myself and my students lately, so this came at just the right time. I'll definitely look into this.
Steve, you're amazing!
You and Mr Pagano have such a great feel for each other's playing I wish there were (many) more videos of your duets - I would love to hear Charlie Small's "Conversation for Tenor and Bass..." or Stephen Verhelst's "The Devil's Waltz" on UA-cam. I'm sure these came from your time in StL but it's not as if St Lous is in Siberia, or New Jersey.
That is neat as all get out - if you told me that was Prokofiev I would've believed it. Great arrangement - great performance.
Keep coming back to this video
hola amigo me puedes compartir la partitura ? por favor
