Traditional music from Scotland and Ireland, especially featuring flute and whistle players.
"John O' Lorne" - "Ceolbeg", Kirkcaldy Folk Club 1985
I've already posted a version of this, but this recording is better. Dave Whyte's setting to music of a poem by Neil Munro.

Happy St. Patrick's Day 2024 : Desi Wilkinson 3 reels on Bb flute
Переглядів 3943 місяці тому
Happy St. Patrick's Day 2024 I haven’t seen Desi in a few years, maybe 5 or even 6, but I loved this track on his CD from 3 years ago, “Two For Joy”. I met Desi in 1977 and he has been both a good friend and musical inspiration ever since. The music is accompanied by a few photos from trips to Scotland in the 1970s/1980s, a few “Cran” publicity photos, and the covers from some of the recordings...

Joe McKenna : All Ireland Fleadh Buncrana 1976 : Reels
Переглядів 2114 місяці тому
Uilleann piper Joe McKenna playing at a street session at the 1976 All-Ireland Fleadh held that year in Buncrana, Co. Donegal. Wild music, very fast, but he's certainly not missing any notes out.. "Paddy Taylor's" - "The Bucks Of Oranmore / The Old Bush / Rakish Paddy"
Seamus Glackin : "The Pinch Of Snuff" - All Ireland Fleadh 1976

I count myself having been very lucky over the years to be in the right place at the right time on my many musical trips to Ireland, and this was one such occasion. Seamus Glackin - an outstanding fiddle player, as you will hear, dropped in to a session at the 1976 Buncrana Fleadh, and played this version of a great Donegal fiddle reel. I don't think I've ever heard it played better. Screenshot...

This sounds diabolical...Furey brother's are much better...
Pure class
Oisin Mac Diarmada - Bright May Morning / Fowler On The Moor
Hup
The magic of the pipes, like slow breathing through time that thrills the spine. Those old airs are like a heartbeat of human love.
The accordionist doesn't have a very masculine voice.
It was traditionally played on the lap
I always thought the last reel was Wellington's but in the description it says Sheehan's. But on Spotify it says Wellington's. Which one is right?
When was this recorded?
Love it 🎻
Beautiful!
RIP Andew., my brother, you will never be forgotten, never. X
ROBBED ROBBED ROBBED FRIM P O'NEILL PRIVATE COLLECTION TAKEN FROM CORRIGANS LOCKUP LETTERKENNY COPIED FROM.VHS TAPE BOUGHT BY MR O'NEILL AT GREAT EXPENSE DO NOT WATCH ANY MORE OF THIS ROBBER , A visit to LETTERKENNY is now on the cards to get to the bottom of this SOON /
Robbed from P O'Neill along with all other of your posts Robbed Robbed Robbed, wondering what other personal possessions were taken from CORRIGANS LOCK UP ?????????
Just so yiu viewers know that these videos were posted without The consent of the owner who obtained them from Utv and Rte Television networks at great expense, Please do not.view anything else posted by Nasty people who seem to think its ok to capitalise from other people's material.
HOPE YOU ENJOY POSTING MR P.ONEILLS Videos, We certainly will be having a chat in.person about this, every video you have posted is direct from his VHS Tapes leaving no doubt as to where you obtained them direct from Corrigans Lockup Letterkenny, this material would never be on tv or anywhere else They were bought at great expense from UTV AND RTE TV , and they must be returned With any monies obtained from posting them on UA-cam or anywhere else MR HADDEN A trip to Donegal is forthcoming Maybe you would like to inform Mr Corrigan aswell, as he hasn't Got back to any messages left.
I'm only going to tell you this once. I have no idea what you are talking about. These programmes were broadcast on Grampian TV in Scotland and I recorded some of them at the time. I still have the original VHS tapes I made - they have never been out of Aberdeen, let alone any "lock-up in Letterkenny". I post the clips here because otherwise they would disappear forever, and people seem to appreciate seeing them. I have never "monetised" any of the recordings posted on UA-cam, and income to me from them is precisely zero. I put them here purely for love of the music. But if you feel that these videos should not be here, just say so, and I will remove them.
Any one have a spare copy of "Thoughts from Another World" ? Johnny was my teacher. Some of these are difficult to hear again. Seems like he should still be just around the corner ranting about the fox in the microwave.
Tolles Lied
Lovely melodic voice
Such a classic song from a marvellous performer.
Harry Bradley is my favourite flute player, some years ago he won the Gradam Cheoil award, in the hall that night he played a set with three other musicians and it’s my favourite music on UA-cam.
Quite agree - that clip is hard to beat. A' the best.
love Pat Cooksey's lyrics and Eddie Furey's interpretation and tone
HUP!
One of the most overlooked pipers of the time, in my opinion. He's got a number of really unique settings of tunes, he's generally "firing on all cylinders" (drones always, and regs going most of the time, providing mostly rhythmic, rather than harmonic accompaniment). He plays a great combination of tight and open on the chanter. I would say his style is out of fashion these days, but my goodness, there's no denying his talent. I'm still listening to his "Best of Joe & Antoinette McKenna" album (you can find on Spotify, I've transferred it from vinyl, to cassette, and now MP3 over the years).
HUP!
Wow. What a special recording. Thank you for sharing this with us! ❤
Its a long long time since i heard this song, its still pulls at my heart-strings ❤xxx❤
The love and passion the chieftains have for Irish traditional music is just astounding a gift to Ireland
Looks like Frankie Gavin has been around forever
The full panoply of Chieftainry.
Definitely 1984
Does anyone know the name of the second traditional tune?
It is called simply "The Traditional Reel", as stated in the caption.
Paddy was a great musical soul, who could get the sound of life out of a penny tin whistle, and even more out of the Uillann pipes. And he was in good company in the Chieftains.; brilliant all.
Thanks for posting. Love this version.
with a two cent whistle ? serious ???
such a emotional song, if you've away from home,
LOL perfect!
Nice bless Wonderfull ❤
The playing is not ornamented at all, which is good....and is more a mix of the old 'breathy' basic country style mixed with the pace of the modern Molloy or Carty style... . That pace would have been scorned at in house dances and players of old ..but he was perhaps caught between two worlds, old and new...the old basic proficiency requiring just as much skill as the modern legato, highly ornamented approach... a treasure in it's own... as for his connections with CCE...maybe we best forget that and appreciate his music instead
A great song and very representative of the Irish experience in GB before the Ryanair generation (and also of the Irish experience in the USA & other countries)
Saw Black Eyed Biddy in a Portree pub back in 1991.
Amazing
There's four who share this room as we work hard for the crack And sleeping late on Sundays I never get to Mass It's a long way from Clare to here It's a long way from Clare to here It's a long, long way, it grows further by the day It's a long way from Clare to here When Friday comes around Terry's only into fighting My ma would like a letter home but I'm too tired for writing It almost breaks my heart when I think of Josephine I told her I'd be coming home with my pockets full of green And the only time I feel alright is when I'm into drinking It sort of eases the pain of it and levels out my thinking I sometimes hear a fiddle play or maybe it's a notion I dream I see white horses dance upon that other ocean It's a long, long way from Clare to here.
This is so frickin’ good. ❤
This guy is the tremolo picking king
Bob Ross can okay a mean fiddle
Love his playing I think he is The King Of Pipers rip
This is such a valuable recording, love that you captured it.
In the right place at the right time, Frank. Glad you enjoyed it. A' the best.
does he play The lonesome boatman.
