The expression of the Se gene can be affected by the H gene. The H gene encodes an enzyme called fucosyltransferase, which is responsible for adding fucose molecules to precursor substances, ultimately forming the H antigen. The presence or absence of the H antigen can influence the expression of other blood group antigens, including those encoded by the Se gene. If the H antigen is not present (due to mutations in the H gene), it can impact the expression or modification of other antigens, including the antigen in the secretions.

Thank you for your explanation. How can the H gene affect the Se gene when both encode for the same antigen H. Se gene makes the H antigen in the secretion as it encodes for FUT 2 and and H gene makes the H antigen as it encodes for FUT 1 in Rbc. Sese+hh =para bombay? Which means no H antigen in RBC but presence of H antigen in secretion. I think Sese+hh=presence of H antigen in secretion

The Se gene, on the other hand, encodes for a sialyltransferase enzyme that adds sialic acid to the H antigen, converting it to the Se antigen. Therefore, variations in the H gene can affect the availability of the H antigen substrate for the Se enzyme, ultimately influencing the expression of the Se antigen. The Bombay phenotype is a rare blood type where individuals lack the H antigen on their red blood cells. This absence of the H antigen prevents them from expressing ABO blood group antigens (A, B, and AB). However, the genes responsible for producing ABO blood group antigens are different from the gene responsible for producing the H antigen. Even though individuals with the Bombay phenotype lack ABO blood group antigens on their red blood cells, they can still produce these antigens in their secretions like saliva, tears, and other bodily fluids. This is because the genes responsible for producing these antigens in secretions are not affected by the mutation that causes the Bombay phenotype. Therefore, while they may not express ABO blood group antigens on their red blood cells, they can still secrete them in other bodily fluids.

In the 1st paragraph you say variation in H antigen can affect the availability of H antigen substrate for Se enzyme In the last paragraph you say in bombay bloog group of hh ,there can still be H antigen secretion in bodily fluid.isnt that because of the presence of Se gene?which means hh+Sese = absence of H antigen on the Rbc and presence of H antigen on bodily fluid?
