Cool video! I'm in California now. Left England in 1973. I had a metal detector when I was 11 or 12. It was purchased from a Montgomery ward catalog from US in about 70ish. I had the whole Island to myself it seemed. Loved the ancient items just lying around. During covid, some acreage came up for sale that had ponds, meadows, creeks. It was cheap. The owners inherited it and never saw it. We didn't know if it was the end of the world or civilization, so we bought it to eek out an existence if it got bad, and to retire to if it stayed normal. Turns out it was one of the first gold mining towns founded after the coloma gold discovery. I just found a flintlock near the town site hotel. Found gold and other things. I'm in my environment now. Doesn't beat what you can find in old Blighty, but it gets me by.
