Looking good!
could someone recommend a good starting boat or yacht for this hobby? its so vast and ive jsut got no idea where to start, i am familiar with rc airplanes and have experience with rc in general, just not the boats.
@@durden91tyler I would recommend the DragonForce 65 as a great way to get into r/c sailing. The kit comes nearly ready to sail, and can’t be beat for price and quality. It sails well, and is extremely popular. I would also check for any r/c sailing clubs in your area and see what boats they sail. Sailing by yourself can get boring after a while…racing adds a whole other level of interest. Check the TheAMYA.ORG website for clubs by state.
@@ahabva Thank you!
Very peaceful
How do you get it back to you?
It’s radio controlled. I’m sailing it in the direction that I want. I race the boat against others just like it.
Three seconds after the video cuts off the beautiful vessel capsizes to windward as the “log” digs in and pulls the boat over……..
Beautiful boat. I've never seen that rod attached to the to the clew/lower section of the leach of that mainsail. What is it called and what is its purpose?
It’s called a club. Its purpose is to make possible a larger sail area. The sail style is know as a “leg-o-mutton.” It’s unique to the Chesapeake Bay. The boat is a Chesapeake Bay racing log canoe. ua-cam.com/video/jgR-YnNUFC8/v-deo.htmlsi=3I5Z1ceHs_DkzpEV
Very Beautiful. Do you have the plans?
Plans are available from the USVMYG website. usvmyg.org/store/plans/vintage-36/
Is there an international competition in these boats??

Beautiful.
Wow,congrats is that you? What position onboard video?I'm jealous "ya bastard".Thanks Rob Good on ya!First like on video
Not me! I spent enough years racing log canoes to appreciate that it’s a young man’s sport. This boat was sailing with only one of the five sails it could carry. Wild ride!
where was this held?
The pond is located in Columbia, Maryland.
Thanks Rob,Happy Holidays my friend.Topher
Best to you and yours!
Beautiful boat!
Is that the A rig?
Vintage Marbleheads as a rule don’t change sail rigs. This is the original design. High Flyers usually have a taller rig, which is countered by a deeper keel. So yes, it is the A rig.
You Great Good... !!! I wish you every day of your development. Best Relaxing +thumb up3!
Looks good! Ever use a traditional two-mast sail plan on it?
Yes…check ua-cam.com/video/Ry7UQlZ9xjs/v-deo.htmlsi=m62Z8jrxTHXW2e67 Same hull shape, but smaller. Such a fair shape, I’m thinking of making a 48” version.
Sweet!
What's the LOD? Are controls just rudder and mainsheet?
Just like a regular sailboat; rudder and sails only. 23” LOD…I’ll race you!
Love the deck cam perspective!
Is pond in Frederick, MD?
Yes, it’s called Lake Whittier.
Beautiful sailing boat please what type is
My boat is a Vintage Marblehead. It was built by me. 50 inches on deck.
Congratulations very beautiful
beautiful boat
Rob,always enjoy your videos.Thank you.Maybe see you in Marblehead Ma. someday.I'm in Hull,Mass. Regards Topher

Hip hip hooray 👏🏾. Nice touch to add to the water!!
Hi Rob, beautiful!!! Does your boat have the deeper draft, 11” or is it the original 7.50” draft??? Thanks
It has the original design draft. It was made cutting the lifts according to the plans, and then carving away everything that wasn’t meant to be there.
This is Charles Swift from Cobbs Creek, Va. I'm a past member of the Marbleheaders of Spring Lake, N. J. I have a Marblehead sailboat which I built from scratch while a member of the Spring Lake Group. First, are there any RC model sailboat groups around the Williamsburg, Newport News, York area. I'm interested in joining a club. Please give me a contact to get information regarding active RC sailboat clubs in the area. Email: hartwell11@aol.com Thank you Charlie
The best way to locate clubs is thru the AMYA website club directory... www.theamya.org/clubs/#VA. There is also the annual Vintage Model Yacht Group National Regatta. That will give you a chance to race against other Marblehead yachts. Regatta info: sites.google.com/site/csmyclub/us-vintage-model-yacht-group-2021-national-championship-regatta---notice-of-race
That's a full on breeze for those rigs! Love it!
Hey there! Thanks for the upload! Have you ever thought about using smzeus . c o m to promote your channel??
Very pretty
Hermoso video ,gracias.
Beautiful vintage 36 Rob. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Rob,I needed this! Our first club open sailing is on 8/2 at Rosemary lake. Are plans on Vintage site?Vintage 36 is on my short list to build. Are you coming to "Redd's"pond this year?Chris H.
Tiberius CX The plans are available on the Vintage site : usvmyg.org/store/plans/vintage-36/ I’d like to sail on Redd’s...it all depends on the COVID-19. Scott Todd has been working Chico II molded hull, you might contact him regarding a ready made hull. dscotttodd63@gmail.com
Thanks Rob.Raced modern marblehead yesterday 5/17 at "Redd's pond.My first race of year!Lots of fun.Stay safe.Chris
Thanks Rob,I was at this race.
Let’s both look forward to getting back.
We took inspiration from the plans for the British military batteaux found in Howard Chapelle’s book of Small American Sailing Craft. Once we had a basic idea, we built it by eye.
I was looking into building a replica batteaux. Can I ask where you were able to find the drawings?
She's gorgeous! What does her underside look like?
Rory It’s a traditional sharpie design. Flat bottom, with a fin keel.
@@ahabva That is great! I love love love New Haven's
It made for some challenging sailing.
yikes, those gusts must have been tough!
Hi Rob. Just wanted to reach out and tell you how much I enjoy your Vintage Marblehead videos. I’m stuck here in Seattle making my own versions but have no one to race with. If you’re ever bored, check out my vintage rc sailboat blog: www.rcmodelyachts.com. I’ve done a redesign on the Sun Wind, the Wampum 2, and the Rip Tide. Steve
trying to get my skipjack #28 back up and running again
Great! If you’re near Solomons, come racing with us.
my grandfather and I used to race there many years ago, but I've long since moved to Florida for my NASA job
As I recall she was pretty fast, you can't imagine how many times I looked at her in the garage and thought about getting her back in the water!
Please add more videos, especially of hulls out of the water and the winch systems etc.
👍
Well judged on the wind would marker !
