Big Ten 2024 Preview Episode Four: Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota
Fantastic job gentlemen!
Thanks, Briggs! Always appreciate you watching and leaving comments. Appreciate you!
Larry Johnson is like 4 years past retirement. We were supposed to hire someone to be an analyst that’s gonna replace him, but Knowles just didn’t. So like…will he retire? Prolly not unless he gets push from Day.
I think his DLine needs to put up or shut up for the rest of the season. If they don’t produce, it’s time to move on to a new DLine coach.
Oh My God its Ryan
You’re right! Super appreciate Ryan stepping in at the last second to help out.
Speaking of sec vs big 10, I’d love to see mizzou get the gophers or, what would be real fun, the Illini
Oh, man. Those would be really interesting games. I agree.
Gotta love the wild mood swings of watching the Gophers under PJ.
Take as old as time! The highs are so high but just when you think you’ve turned the corner, the lows hit you like a ton of bricks.
being at the Game Davis Warren is the worst QB I have ever seen why Moore thought this was acceptable at QB and didn't get a portal QB is one of the dumbest coaching decisions ever. To be fair Indiana lost their starting Left Guard Drew Evans for the season which may explain why they gave up so many pressures and sacks to the Michigan defensive line Tyler Stephens 77 was the weak link Saturday
Yeah, Indiana did have some OLine issues without Evans. Hopefully they can get that figured out over the bye week. And yeah Davis Warren is awful. It’s wild Sherrone Moore thought it was enough to have him and Alex Orji on the roster
UCLA on a Friday night! Who hates Iowa?!?!
However in all seriousness, this makes the win over ucla better and loss to Iowa worse. A hilarious wash haha
lol I’m always happy when Iowa loses
Geez It won't matter who plays for Michigan they aren't going to stop all the weapons Indiana has and their offense is terrible sorry Mike but youre prediction is terrible and you have said multiple times IU would have a close game and it has never happened
lol I’ve been the biggest Hoosier booster around. I’ve been predicting they would be good since the transfer portal closed last summer. I’ve spent tons of time praising Indiana. That said, eventually they will play a couple close games. Maybe that happens this week. Maybe not. But eventually it’s gonna happen. That said, I still picked Indiana to win against a very talented Michigan squad.
@@WeLiveForSaturday I know and youre support has been great one of several reasons it's made me return the favor by supporting you're Gophers I just don't see how with Michigan's offense and with how well The defense has played for Indiana how Michigan can keep it close even with all the talent on Defense. Nebraska had a lot of talent on the defense and the o line was able to handle things I think they can do it again
@@robertholbrook5873You could very well be right. I might be overthinking this, and if I am then Indiana will win big once again. I just think the athletes on Michigan are elite and that could make this game more interesting than it’s expected to be.
Indiana was a 35 point underdog to Michigan last year and a 14 point fav now. That’s almost a FIFTY point swing in one year.
It’s been a wild reversal of fortunes for both schools.
Hooray John is back Also Indiana has made 5 bowl games in the last 30 years 2007 Insight Bowl, 2015 Pinstripe Bowl, 2016 Foster Farms Bowl, 2020 Gator Bowl, 2021 Outback Bowl also first time ever Indiana has been favored over Michigan
Thanks for the correction!
Discontinue the Old Brass Spittoon screw that man don't care how little we have won it I love it no wonder I have never heard of this guy before also Chiles is a lot like Riola and I think the pass rush of Indiana will be too much for him
He didn’t say to discontinue the Old Brass Spittoon. He just said Indiana hasn’t been as successful against Sparty since the advent of the Spittoon.
Indiana podcast transformation completed!
I know, right? It’s so funny. But this is the Hoosiers year on all levels apparently.
Great job! Go Gophers! 🛶〽️🐿️
Thanks for watching, Briggs! And yes, SKI-U-MAH Row The Boat Go Gophers!!!
Gophers are having a terrific bounce back. But I have a strong feeling this will end up as a, what might have been season. If Max had been up to speed game one no way they lose to UNC. And if not for the refs they beat Michigan.
Yeah sucks to be 5-3 when you should be 7-1. But such is life in college football. I’m just hoping they can finish the season on a winning streak.
_"Every bit as good as Ashton Jeanty ... "_ 😅 ... you guys, man. Goofy
I mean, Jeanty deserves all the accolades. No question about it. That said, Kaleb Johnson is also special.
Oregon wearing pink is a breast cancer awareness thing -- ya frickin jerk. 😉 Seriously, you thought they just decided to mix in some pink for fun?
Illinois by 3 on Saturday at Oregon. Indiana by 10. Minnesota by 7. All of which will make me happy… Missouri loses by 14+ tho so womp womp
It's hard to visualize Illinois' O-line holding up to Derrick Harmon, Jamaree Caldwell and Matayo Uiagalelei.
You really think Illinois wins?!? I just worry about how they’re gonna score enough points to win. I think they’d have to win the turnover battle by a lot to have a chance. Hope I’m wrong though. Would love to see Illinois beat Oregon and throw a wrench into everything.
@@cacogenicistYeah this is where I’m at. I just don’t know how Illinois is gonna score enough points when the rushing offense has been so subpar this year. Oregon is probably gonna have plenty of possessions and that’s a problem.
@@WeLiveForSaturday- Oregon could have scored 50+ in this game. They started mixing in some threes early in the 3rd quarter.
TTUN beat IU every single time they played ten between 1988 and 2019. TTUN-IU and OSU-IU were actually the 2 longest active win streaks between two teams at one point. But in IU’s great 2020 season, they beat TTUN.
Thanks for the breakdown! Will be interesting to see what happens this year in both those games.
31-21 Indiana
I could definitely see that
Saw a Big 10 bit on Instagram this weekend on what is a lost art in college football. The coach with the most answers of what has been lost: Kirk Ferentz. The coach with the least answers: Curt Cignetti. Only 6 years different in age and somehow one is old man yelling at clouds while the other is just killing people at a school with 0 history in football.
That’s a really astute point. Age doesn’t define flexibility. Cignetti is on the cutting edge while Kirk is living in the past a bit. Thanks for such an interesting comment! Will be interesting to track both coaches going forward.
Best Indiana Hoosiers podcast on the internet!
We’re doing our best! 😂
44 players on IUs roster were 0 stars coming out of High school. Stars are meaningless IU has a much better coaching staff compared to Nebraska
Agree! Recruiting rankings have an expiration date. What matters is how you play on the gridiron.
I’m the opposite of you guys. I HATE bye weeks, especially this year when my Hoosiers are killin it. Going 2 weeks without a game is hard!
Different strokes for different folks. I’m crazy pumped up for Indiana/Nebraska. Gonna wear my IU hat.
Oregon is going to roll Purdue. Dan Lanning is not going to let his team let up the gas at all. They won the battle against OSU and now its time to sack the town (Purdue). Don't be fooled by the dead cat bounce Purdue had against Illinois Also, how the hell is Illinois still ranked? They only got ranked in the first place by narrowly beating a fraudulent Kansas squad. They beat a #24 Nebraska squad, but then already lost to PSU just got pushed to OT by a Purdue team that is power rated as a mid-level MAC team. Ignoring Walters going (and failing) for 2 in OT, Illinois is 4-1-1 with a mediocre SoR at best. Poll momentum is a hell of a drug
Oregon is gonna crush Purdue I agree. No magic this week for the Boilermakers. Illinois did get buoyed by that Kansas win. So I see what you’re saying, but this week will decide if they get to stay in the polls or not. Beat Michigan and get to 6-1? Then Illinois definitely deserves to be ranked. Lose and they will fall out.
Indiana hosted gameday in 2017
@@robertholbrook5873right on! Very cool. They should be in Bloomington this weekend too, imo.
Great job Seth!
Agreed. Seth did really well and did us a big favor this week. Cheers to him!
All your base are belong to us Minnesota to the LA schools
You know it!
👍😀
Thanks for watching and commenting! Appreciate you!
What a fun weekend. Would’ve loved Mizzou to be involved but I’m glad they had a bye again. Just weird they had two this year.
Was an awesome weekend! Was good meeting you at what turned out to be a phenomenal game. And yeah unfortunate that Mizzou had a ‘bye’ on Saturday, but I’m sure they’ll bounce back.
@@WeLiveForSaturday good to meet you too! I happily donated my voice to that game for a few days
Indiana vs Nebraska cant get here fast enough the unstoppable force in IUs offense meets The immovable object in Nebraskas defense
Thanks for the Hoosier props. You guys are undaunted! Congrats on the Gophers.
Thanks so much! Appreciate it. And of course I have to give the Hoosiers props. You’ve earned them!
Doubt Cignetti leaves for the NFL said on his radio show how he is a college guy. I think he gets a massive pay raise and stays put
I agree. I hope and suspect Cignetti stays in Bloomington. But after what he’s accomplished his name will be a hot one for sure.
Fox Big Noon is in Mormon country Saturday
Right on! Thanks for the correction.
gbr
Big win for Nebraska on Saturday!
The Hoosiers are finally going to take it to a good bowl game!
There’s no question about it. Indiana is gonna make a good or maybe even a great bowl game. The truth is Indiana is still in contention for the college football playoff. Exciting times in Bloomington!
European footy keeps talking about super leagues and has even changed the champions league recently and I quit watching for the most part. Now i find the championship (2nd division of England) much more interesting. If college continues this way i may end up a 1-AA fan
Fingers crossed college football never goes the super league route for sure.
Looking forward to a great battle between the Gophers and Trojans. Great preview boys. Fight on!
Appreciate you checking out the pod! And good luck the rest of the season aside from Saturday night lol. Hope you continue checking out the pod going forward! Agree it’s gonna be a physical, hard fought game. The question is whether the Gophers have the firepower to stay in the game for all four quarters. That USC passing game is just clicking on all cylinders right now so that’s impressive. We put out Big Ten football content twice a week.
Not really sure what your point ab the illinois game is, even with poor execution in the redzone, PSU should have scored an easy 9 points from field goals, bit clearly the Penn state kicker is very bad. You cant blame kotelnicki for 400+ yards on a bigten team where a special teams player is most at fault.
I hear you. But to be frank, after hiring OC Andy Kotelnicki and with the way Penn State recruits they should be putting up 500+ yards of offense and 35 points weekly. In their first big game under Kotelnicki, the offense was good, but not great. You hired Kotelnicki to raise the bar. So I’m holding Penn State to a higher standard than other teams. You don’t fire your OC and hire Kotelnicki unless you’re expecting to do better in these big games.
In 1967 Indiana started 8-0 before losing to Minnesota
Oh man. My information was wrong then. Thanks for the correction!
IU has been cheated so many times due to terrible officiating you have my sympathy especially against Michigan.
Appreciate it, Robert! Was an absolutely inexcusable call.
Don’t feel bad. As an Indiana fan, I’m still mad about the 1979 Indiana Michigan game when ball carrier Lawrence Reid intentionally and literally THREW THE BALL OUT OF BOUNDS to stop the clock from running out with less than 5 seconds in the game, and then Anthony Carter caught the game-winning bomb on the next and last play. 😒
That sounds awful! Ugh I hate terrible officiating.
@@WeLiveForSaturday To be fair, the rules were somewhat ambiguous on this point at the time, and the NCAA clarified/changed the rule the following offseason. You can Google it. The TD call by the Michigan announcer is one of the greatest of all time.
37:25 To me, a blowout is 40 points. We won by 31. But also, it very easily could have been 21-17, MSU with 3 minutes left in the first half had they not fumbled 2 great drives away. That’s where more of the frustration and lack of confidence comes from on my part.
Sure. Ohio State wasnt its sharpest against Sparty. I expect them to display more focus against better opponents.
@@WeLiveForSaturday it’s also very possible we were looking ahead to the Iowa, Oregon, Nebraska, Penn State stretch and didn’t really focus in until the 2nd half. Although, Day has always been a 2nd half coach, so I guess we’ll see this weekend.
@@maxgeittmann7I absolutely think Ohio State got caught looking ahead. They will play better against more challenging competition.
Let's be honest about that bad call (and it was bad): Minnsota had TWO punishable offenses on that onside kick. To not mention that seems somewhat disingenuous. If they had reviewed, that would've been caught.
I’m just not seeing the penalties that allegedly should have been called against Minnesota. Maybe that makes me a blind homer, but I don’t see it.
The line on Illinois vs Penn State is wild… I feel like that one should be swapped with the Mn vs Mi. It makes no sense
I mean, maybe Penn State’s a wagon? It’s possible. But I hear you.
Indiana has a better o line and pass rush and run game gives them tye edge
Yeah I agree Indiana should win in part due to having a more diverse offense and better run game.
You make a lot of really intriguing points. Absolutely agree Indiana has the more diverse offense. That’s a big part of why I also picked the Hoosiers to win a shootout by four points, 45-41. However, if there’s rain the score will probably be closer to what you envision. Either way, the win will get Indiana to 5-0 which would be really impressive.
Indiana is running the ball over 200 yards/game off of running backs alone. Granted, the competition hasnt been fierce, but IU has 5 RBS with at least 14 carries all averaging between 4.7-9.2 YPC Maryland's front 4 is a significant test for the Hoosiers, but its also a group that has given up 5.0 YPC to MSU RBs and 4.8 YPC to Virginia non-QB rush attempts. While Indiana had fewer than 30 rush attempts against its only P4 opponent (UCLA), it still averaged 4.2 YPC Meanwhile, outside of the Nova and UConn games, Maryland has seriously struggled to run the ball against P5 opponents. Against MSU, Maryland had 2.84 non QB YPC. Against a poor Virginia D, 3.5 YPC The reality is that Indiana is far more multiple on offense. IU has incredibly deep WR and RB rooms (13 different Hoosiers have scored Touchdowns through the air and ground through 4 games). Indiana also has a more complete defense with far fewer question marks (like the Maryland Secondary) I would also give the veteran Kurtis Rourke an edge over Billy Edwards (who is on quite the Linsanity run). Edwards has been spamming deep balls to Kai Felton (52 targets through 4 games). Rourke is an expert distributor and has a far more lethal Intermediate distance ball than Edwards. This comment is already a little too lengthy, but Nate Tice of Yahoo Sports once compared Intermediate distance throws over the middle of the field to a basketball 3 point shot. Deep balls are a WR stat, but a true test of a QB's metal is to have him make accurate, on-time, and well-read throws over the high-traffic middle of the field. Rourke does that, Billy struggles there Despite all this, I think its close. I think the rain doesnt stop the scoring, but the defenses might. 38-34 Hoosiers
With Northwestern and Purdue on the schedule 6-6 is Indiana's floor at this point
Agree. Hoosiers potentially having a year for the ages.
The "Rock DJ" video is easily top 5 of all time.
Oh absolutely! I’m also really partial to the video for ‘Millennium’
8 overtime’s without scoring for Nebraska. I feel like a high school team could at least pull out a field goal
It’s wild the streak of futility Nebraska has been on the last decade. Every time you think they are turning the corner you have a game like last night.
Nice, after the Illinois Nebraska game last night, you guys were pretty spot on.
Thanks so much for watching! And yeah, we picked the wrong winner but the game largely played out as predicted. Really impressive win for the Illini.
@@WeLiveForSaturday Yeah, respect the call. You said it was going to be close. Can't get much closer than one score in OT.
@@jrmarcusThank you! We do our best. Hope that you keep checking out our videos. We put out new Big Ten football content twice a week during the season and once a week during the offseason.
