June 4th & 5th 2016 Flights over Piedmont, Oklahoma
Переглядів 1298 років тому
We went up to Oklahoma City for a football camp and to visit our friends in Piedmont. It was going to be great weather while we were there so I took the Inspire 1 to get some shots of their house and the area around Piedmont which is mostly farm land. Stephen took a beautiful sunset time laps over the lake that I used in this video. The first long distance flight was a little over 8,000 feet ou...

This is a R/C Field that I tried to check out last year, but it was flooded due to all the rain we had last May. This is a nice field, and well maintained. Maybe I can come back in the Summer to watch them fly out here. Inspire 1 ND Filter Stock Radio iPad Mini - monitor
(10,090 feet) Long Distance Flight with antenna booster 4-30-16
Переглядів 578 років тому
This is the longest distance out 1 way I have ever gone. It was a beautiful sunset over Lake Lewisville. We got out there a little later than I wanted. The sun had already gone down. So some of the ground is a little dark going out to the island. I wanted to travel the same route I did several days ago when I went out to pier 121 WITHOUT the antenna booster. This time I used the booster to see ...

I wanted to wait a little later in the day to fly because the Sun was in the flight path,but was unable to fly at that time. So the sun is a bit of a problem but it worked out okay. I had my son with me on the other monitor to help spot my location which helps on long distance flights. We wanted to see if I could reach Pier 121 from this location. This location is good to take off from because ...
(4,303 feet) Inspire 1 Long Distance Flight with antenna booster 4-20-16
Переглядів 918 років тому
I bought an antenna reflector for the Inspire 1 to see if it made any difference at all. I have found mixed reviews on this product. I didn't fly the same path without it yet, so I don't know for sure what it did to help. I think I could have flown to my house but when I got a weak signal warning, I turned around to be safe. It went out to 4,303 feet at the farthest point. Not bad for a residen...
iPad Pro Art Work from Dec. 2015 to March 2016
Переглядів 548 років тому
A collection of the work I have done with the iPad Pro since getting it for Christmas. Its an awesome iPad for drawing and painting, which is why I wanted it. But it is great for watching video content because of the large screen. It is so realistic once you get used to drawing with the different kinds of pens and pencils. The Apple pencils pressure sensitivity is very realistic to a pencil. Yo...

WARNING: This video is long, skip through it at will if you want. It was a beautiful day to fly. Almost no wind. I went out to a field I had flown several times in the past with the XP2 quad, but was always afraid to get out very far. There are a few bad memories of crashes in this field with the XP2. Not so with the Inspire. With the "Inspire 1" I covered the entire property and could have gon...

I went out to try and get some close up fly over of the new Dallas Cowboys facility. There were workers every place on the property. Trucks and equipment moving around and in and out of the main road. So, I went over to this field that I had flown from in the past and filmed it from a distance. It was a beautiful day with little wind and mild temp. for December. There really wasn't much to see ...

It was a beautiful Sunday morning for flying. I got out there early before the wind picked up and the sports people showed up. The Fall colors on the trees were nice. I flew this weekend to check my batteries from a firmware update. This updated the Inspire and batteries. It is supposed to help the accuracy of the battery percentage. I went to my usual "safe" places to fly. I have heard reports of problems with this current update but I had no problems. I did an IMU calibration, Compass calibration and checked the compass readings at 20 feet to see if they w...

Took a family vacation to Sea Ranch, Redwood Forest, San Francisco, and Los Angels. I took the Inspire to try and get some aerial of the coast at Sea Ranch. It was windy and cloudy most of the time we were there. I was able to fly 2 separate days. There were some interesting looking rocks along the beach in that area. It was great to fly some place other than where I live. Some pretty country u...

WARNING This video is long!! It could get boreing. :-) I left it that way because I wanted to leave all the long distance flying in the video. There are distances (in feet) displayed at the farthest points of 2 flights. I went out to some wide open country to get some long distance flights with the Inspire 1. I wanted to see how far I could go and still feel like I was in control of the flight....

    These look great Russell! Do you think it's possible to use this with the Inspire?

  • @RussellMcCollom

    Why are you afraid. Don't be afraid my friend :-) the Inspire can handle it. I mostly went out to this field to conquer it with the Inspire. I had 2 bad and 1 minor crashes with the XP2 over the yrs. in this field. I could have gone way outside this area but there are houses and hwy. out there. As long as I have checked the Inspire and the batteries and feel like it is all in working order, and I don't go behind something or run into something, I go with the mind set that there is no reason for it to just fall out of the sky. Hopefully that holds true. :-) I just try and stay above everything. I do find my heart beating a little faster though, when I am 4 and 5 thousand feet out. I never went farther than 2 thousand feet in this area.

    I'm still too afraid to go very far with my Inspire. The range is incredible though! I tend to not fly anywhere I don't want to walk to get it if it falls.

      That is the "Altimeter One" by jolly logic. It records the highest point that the XP2 went while in flight. You can plug it into your PC and save it, or hold the button down and it will clear it back to 0. Here is their website. www.jollylogic.com/products/altimeterone/

      Russell McCollom Cool. I thought it might be some sort of GPS tracker in case you lost the quad. Did you get the message I sent you through your YT channel?

    • @RussellMcCollom
      @RussellMcCollom 10 років тому

      Yes, I think I have read them all. I would like to put something on the quad in case it does go down far away from where I am. I have ordered a "tile" but the haven't shipped them yet. Not sure if that is a good solution yet or not. I will know more when I get it I guess. Any suggestions on what could be used and still be light weight?

    • @ChadWork1
      @ChadWork1 10 років тому

      Russell McCollom I haven't thought about it too much. I've seen those tiles. I'm interested how well they work.

    • @RussellMcCollom
      @RussellMcCollom 10 років тому

      Yes, I'll check it out when I get one. They were delayed in shipping because they found a better and more accurate way of tracking the tile right before they were to ship.. Supposed to be within a month or so now.

    Looks VERY smooth Russell. I do see some props now in the shot. Were you shooting in Wide mode? I shoot in Medium, so that may not be an issue. Also, has your flight time gone down? I've been setting the timer for 8 minutes with the Stock XP2, larger motors, and 11" props.

    • @RussellMcCollom
      @RussellMcCollom 10 років тому

      Hi Chad. I got a GoPro 3+ and this is the first time I have really had a chance to test it. So I left it in 1080 super W view. Yes I have since changed it to 1080 Med. because of the props in the view. That was the first thing I noticed when I got home to watch it. Before doing the upgrade, I had the 11" props with the more powerful cobra motors and I saw that it did increase my flight time just a bit. After doing the "Monster Upgrade", I have increased my flight time to 11 min. I am adding an extra minute, and then checking the battery percentage after the flight. I think I could get close to 15 min. Hans says you can get up to 18 min. with the 14" props, so I am slowly moving up to see how long I really can fly safely. I feel with the upgrade, it is much more stable and smooth than the 10" prop with the motors I had. Not near as noisy with the 14" props also. I am very pleased with the whole rig now.

    • @ChadWork1
      @ChadWork1 10 років тому

      Russell McCollom Ah OK. SuperView is more wide than Wide view. I would be interested to see if you get props in the shot at just regular Wide view. And I'm surprised the flight time has almost doubled! It looked like you had some smooth forward flight footage in there too, which has been an issue with my rig. It seems to be bumpy when I'm just flying in a straight line. I'm probably going to have to upgrade, though I really like the small footprint of the original XP2.

    • @RussellMcCollom
      @RussellMcCollom 10 років тому

      Yes, it does make the whole quad larger than before, but I think it is more stable. I flew it for a minute in the yard today with now wind at all and it is rock solid. Doesn't bobble or shake at all. I recommend upgrading.

  • @RussellMcCollom
    @RussellMcCollom 10 років тому

    I know :-( I don't know what else to do to get rid of that. I have done all I know to do to the quad to get it as quiet as possible. Any suggestions? Should I stabilize it in a program. I do have Motion but have never like the results. Is FCP a better program to stabilize aerial video.

    Looking good Russel! I saw a little jello. That can be cred easily with the BlurFix ND filter mount. I'be made some videos about the various versions - one for using with the Hero3 in a case, and one for the Naked camera. XProHeli sells them. Check my vid "Remove Jello on GoPro Hero3 w/ ND Filter: "Blurfix3 SO Naked" " or "Fix GoPro Jello with the BlurFix3 Micro 52 & ND Filters".

    Nice video, Russell. It looks like you might be in the North Dallas area. I am considering investing into an XP2 and have some questions and would love to talk to a real-world user. I also wouldn't mind meeting up with you to watch a flight. I am a video producer based in Plano and am looking to expand to aerial and want to get started with the XP2 or DJI Phantom before investing in a Cinestar. I'll check it out. Yes, I don't have a flying buddy so when I do FPV, I think of that for sure. I have been walked up on 2 times. They were nice but a little startling at best.

  • @ChadWork1
    @ChadWork1 11 років тому

    Hey Russel, I just uploaded one a few minutes ago! Yes, it's hard to find great places that are not only aerial friendly, but beautiful as well. I've taken to saying, "I can't talk right now, but you're welcome to watch" when people start bugging me. It's even harder doing solo FPV, because you can't tell who's around you unless you use your eye in the sky to check them out. I'm just happy to have a nice place where I can get to the quad easily if it goes down.

  • @RussellMcCollom
    @RussellMcCollom 11 років тому

    Thanks Chad. Yes it is time to step it up a bit. I have been flying for almost a year now and am tired of looking at open fields. There were a few people that tried to talk to me while I was flying. I land when that happens. I learned from watching your video where you crashed in that park when the guy was asking you about the quad. :-) Looking forward to seeing another great XP2 video from you.

    Hi Chad. I have watched all your XPro Heli videos. Good stuff. I put the hero 2 on the least fish eye setting that day. I am new to the hero 2, does that put it in non HD? I don't remember. The film of the xpro flying was shot with an hd cam. Still new to the Xpro and Hero 2.
