1957 Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 Shunter
A look at the Keith & Dufftown Railways 1957 Andrew Barclay Shunter. It's powered by a Cummins NTA855 diesel engine powering a hyraulic transmission. The owner kindly took the time to fire it up, go for a run and explain some of the controls.

1922 Fowler Z7 22 ton steam ploughing engine 'Erebus' at 2024 Laigh O'Moray show. This engine was a colonial engine and is bigger than most UK traction engines. Erebus also mounts a 1 to 1 scale replica of the RMS Titanic's whistle, which the camera microphone doesn't do justice - on the day it could be heard in the centre of Keith about a mile from the showground!

This is a fantastic insight into this interesting loco. May I ask does it have gears? Are they automatic like mainline DH locos or manual like a dmu? The engine sounds very nice. I was surprised when you said it was a 4. I thought it sounded like a 6
I've only ever seen it in one gear, its not like the old DMUs where you manually select the gear, and yes it is a 6 must have been thinking 4 cycle when I did the voice over🙄
@MorayMachines Hahha. Thanks for your reply. And thanks again foe a great run through video. A pleasure to watch
The Aveling and Porter Roller was built in 1922. 🙂
Is that you in the lokomotive?
This was a beautiful shot, with the frost or light snow, maybe just go gentle on the zooming in and out? Great sound addition and colours.
The giant whistle almost looks silly haha love it
Absolutely beautiful sound
Nice job Graham its nearly as fast as Mike L does it?
Very nice, will the team get to keith mainline Station!?
That's the plan, hopefully sooner rather than later.
I always thought that this was the best livery even post privatisation!
Hi there, Please can I confirm that this was taken with permission and supervision from KDR staff?
Yes, all KDR videos done with permission.
@@MorayMachines Perfect, thank you. just checking haha. Did they not let you inside?
It's a good point, I should start putting it in the descriptions. I have some footage of the inside, but want to combine it with some shots of it running which I've not had a chance to get yet. That video will hopefully be coming soon.
@@MorayMachines ah right ok, yeah it's probably best to put the disclaimer. Some folk out in the world of railways can go mental with it. 😂 Being a volunteer I just check and let folk know if they haven't got permission. A nice video with information though👍
💞Wow💛💗💛💗💗💗💗💗
I like the green and yellow livery!
Nicely done Mr Henderson

Any idea what restoration costs are? Having the unit back in working order would be a great challenge!
Not sure on cost, it'll depend on how bad it turns out to be and what can't be fixed by the volunteers.
Glad she getting restored had a cab ride in 1969 the joys of my grandfather being a statin master
👍👍👍
Interesting 👍👍👍
If the "Dram Tram" coach doesn't have a brake compartment, wouldn't it make more sense to restore the DMBS first to give the train a brake compartment? I thought trains in passenger service made up of loco hauled stock or traditional DMUs weren't allowed to operate without a brake coach?
Great video 👍thanks,,, only I would have loved to have seen the AWS magnet receiver under the train ,,,,
Very interesting, thanks for posting.
why was it ever ok to just flush the toilet straight onto the line and running gear?
I remember, growing up as a kid in Brighton....70s 80s and looking down at empty tracks at Brighton station and realising what I was staring at. It was DISGUSTING and so glad that doesn't happen anymore. I remember a toilet sign saying "do not flush in stations". Ha! Who knew?!!! 💩💩
Showed up more on the Absorbent Track mats, used for catching diesel. Bright blue, laid out in the 4ft. Yes !!! We had to change them too. 😮😮🤮🤮🤢
Didn't have the facilities in those days. I worked these as a guard out of Glasgow Queen Street.
Nobody cared in those days, thats when life was simple
This was a nice video, My grandparents and still a lot of my cousins live in this area so its good to see one of the trains that's going to be restored.
This is one of the best videos providing a lot of real information.
Just came across your channel and found this video very interesting thanks for the upload 👍😊
I mind them as a kid used to get on at Lochwinnoch up to Glasgow central . The Adrossan Harbour stopped at Lochwinnoch.
Once had a run in the cab between Craigendoran and Crianlarich Upper- Crianlarich Lower - Killin Junction - Killin Killin Junction -Dunblane via Callander. First I saw the Central Highlands I was eight years old. One driver was a big Highlander called Angus, the other a Glasgow man called Davy. Whitbread Brewers Outing. Old man reckoned the nipper would be out the way of the drinking by arrangement with the guard. Ex Navy like the old man, everyone was ex something in those days 1961. Fell in love with both routes. Crianlarich Dunblane and The Killin Branch closed 1965. Walked that section often over fifty years, would probably not have been shut in later years, despite engineering problems. Walked Glen Ogle with a Civil Engineer in the nineties,he reckoned the rockfall and supposed engineering problems were an excuse for closure. There have been no problems in the last sixty years other than the road on the other side of the glen collapsing due to flooding. The Railway Route survived virtually intact.
Would be ace in my garden... always had a dream to live in an old carriage.❤
These did a good service ( Ipswich to Lowestoft ) in the 1970's ... ! .................. DAVE™🛑
So did the maintainence crews !
SO familiar. The cab just like the Class 117s they used to run on the Reading-Tonbridge line after the phasing out of the 3R (206) thumper 'Tadpole' units. I can still hear the AWS and air brakes!
Interesting video about a poor dmu in a sorry state. Apologies if it was someone actually reading it because it sounded like an annoying monotone robot. The DMU needs a hell of a lot of work. It looks better than it actually is. There's no oil on any of the important equipment and should really be under cover.
All that lovely asbestos hiding behind every part of those old DMU ‘s !
I should think the first job is treat and cut out the tin worm the unit has good luck with the DMU,
NO ! The first job is don't get involved. Railway kit is exceedingly heavy, you will regret it I promise you, even if successfull
@@philiprufus4427 sorry mate my husband was involved in doing repairs on DMUs and coaches and even wagon repairs for over 20 years, it's not that bad to get involved,
I thought they wanted to restore the whole unit rather than just the composite :(
I think it will get restored, but it will have to wait until time and resources allow.
@@MorayMachines oh thank god
hi, good luck with this, first job ,drop engines out for full rebuild and test, make sure you have the parts, ex AEC ltd .
