How I passed the the CCNA 200-301 certification exam (with no IT experience)
Переглядів 17 тис.2 роки тому
In this video, I talk about how I passed the CCNA exam on my first attempt. I forgot to mention that I used Cisco's Packet Tracer for labs. I did not buy any physical equipment for the purposes of studying. I used Zoom to make this video. Connect with me on linkedin if you have any questions, comments or concerns about the exam. The rd.break technique only worked when I did Server with GUI Install for RHEL 9.4. In one of Sander's video courses, he has you do a Minimal Server Install and the rd.break technique did not work for RHEL 9.4. So, I had to use the init=/bin/bash to recover the root password on minimal install servers. I caught on later that Sander had you do the Minimal Server Install so you won't freak out about troubleshooting during the exam because you literally have to install everything before you can complete any of his practice exam questions. Anyway, good video....
Interesting, I'll have to check that out. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Thanks! Seems like there's not a ton of info out there on this cert
Lovely Video and good description of your study process. I just passed my Security + last October and I plan to write the CompTIA Linux + Beta Exam first since its just 50 euros and use that' as a building block in writing my RHCSA exam in December. Do you feel that's a good move?
First, congrats on passing the Sec+!! And I planned on doing the Linux+ first but found that i was studying so hard for a 90 question test 😅. I felt like if im gonna study this hard, I wanna go for the relatively harder exam.
Ty for posting this. Currently studying for the exam
Good luck!
Is there a video to set up a server on RedHat?
I have a video setting up a vm on a linux OS. Also, on red hats website docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html-single/installation_guide/index#chap-getting-started
what the link for the article? new sub
Sorry but I don't have that website anymore.
i am going to take the exam next week can you share what questions were asked or some mock test or question sets that usually appear in the exam so that i could practice.
Sander van vugt has great practice exams!!
thanks for sharing your ideas. Can you tell me pls how often did you repeat the chapters within the 3 months preparation time? So eg. you are through the containers chapter, and continue on with the next topic. How many times did you repeat it to memorize it, just once? Of course this is surely different from one to another person, so I'm sure you came back to the container chapter later on again, did you? Or did you train each chapter just once? I've doubts that after let's say 2 month I still can remember the details of something I've learned before..but that be very personal
I would only go back to chapters after testing myself using a practice question/task. So, let's say I did a practice task on containers. Let's say, I remember some podman commands and get the container running but forget how to persistently mount storage. Then I would just review that portion of the chapter. Then I would learn how to do it with the book then without the book. And repeat until i can do the whole task without the book and utilizing man pages or other internal tools.
hi bro do you have any prior experience or certificate before passing RHCSA or what basic you learn before going RHCSA?
I have been working IT for a while now and had a solid foundation of common use cases for technology and network services. That helped me understand the context and role RHEL servers play in the real world.
I appreciate this video. I am going to check out the resources that you provided and use them. Question, did you pass it on your first try?
Yes, i did. I was super nervous about it, i did not want to have to take it again. I took about 2.5 hours to complete. I checked and rechecked things. I even did a task on the wrong server and lost time there.
What was your Linux knowledge before hand?
Not much, lil bit of ubuntu and kali but thats it. I have not workd with linux in professional environment.
Took the rhcsa and it seems like there is always something broken during the exam. How did you learn how to setup you repos?
I learned it from Sander Van Vugt's book. its the best i have seen.
I’m working on this cert. so why you went with the red hat iso and not the others you mentioned?
Because I think it was the most difficult and practical. I also had an interest GovTech at the time.
SOSSAAAA
to the point video, thank you :)
You're welcome!
Great video, thanks for sharing and congratulations on passing! I like the idea of just picking a date and sticking with it, going to try the same approach.
Hi please can you please share how you launch into the node 1 to be able to start the exams?
Red hat a video explaining the test environment. Link in the description
Thank you for sharing, that was helpful! I got one question, how did you booked ur exam? I am going to take it soon and pass it, hopefully.
I booked through their website.
WOAHHH that was awesome!!!
:q ?
I got my CCNA in this week. Now, Im starting my studies for the RHCSA. Thanks for this wonderful video, it helped me to have a good picture of what is it like to get the RHCSA.
Wow! Congrats on that achievement, I am currently in my beginning stages to get my CCNA..i"ve been watching YT tutorials. If you any roadmap for success you can give me would be greatly appreciated!
@@paulavadi1966 Watch all Jeremy’s IT Lab videos and do all of his labs. Then, do some practice tests for the CCNA before getting into the testing room. And I wish all the best in your studies.
@@waltercumbucane1557 Very much appreciated man. Thank you! I wish you continued success in your studies as you go for the RHCSA.
Best of luck!
@@paulavadi1966 I have also started studying Red hat I need suggestions can you provide me your personal email id.
can you also share how you passed your sec+ please. thanks
Messer
I did only practice exams from Messer and Pearson. And used the questions I missed as my study guide.
Cool tip :)
This is not the point of this video, but, on Xserver/Xorg/Wayland, don't forget to use shift+insert to paste your selection. No need to copy first, selection make it automatically for you. You can check this behavior with xclipboard binary. Have a nice day.
thank u for this!
Congratulations Jose! What do you do for a living? Just curious. I'm trying to see what kind of positions or company I can look into after I get my certification.
I work for Philips Healthcare but I don't do anything linux related at my job. 😅 This was for my own interest 😅😅
Good for you Jose. Im trying to finish my studies, but theres so much information it seems overwhelming at times
Just take it one objective at a time. And take a practice exam as soon as possible. That will help you understand your holes in information
Hi, thanks for the video. @Dexter101x is right in the sense that : You should use an external microphon, because we hear your keystrokes and that's loud and annoying, and because audio level is too low. Please enhance sound quality, it only relies on you.
h;ow may attempt in ccna certification exam?
1 attempt
You could use the `-br[ief]` flag along with the `-4` flag to get one line with just the info you need limited to ipv4: `ip -br -4 address` If you know the interface name you can also get only a single line: `ip -br -4 address show eth0 # or whatever it is` You could directly pipe that into awk to only get the address
I usually adjust settings in my own ~/.vimrc only, not system- wide. Also, :set number or :set nonumber can be executed within an existing vim session
Yes, that is a totally valid option, too.
and the shortest ones :set nu or :set nonu
I think 'j' and ':w' are probably my most used vim features, but this seems useful as well 😂
yoooooo that's a game changer for me! I've finally been learning how to make use of cli tools like sed and this makes the workflow 10x smoother, thanks!
! Is more than that, we can redirect anything to cmdline with it eg: type in buffer for i in range(10): print(i) Visual select it, :!python result executes in python replace there eg 2: you have in buffer 2 3 1 5 so just do :!sort to sort it, :!sort | uniq to remove dupes or :!jq to format json string in file etc or how about bulk renaming files? :r !ls :%norm 0y$Imv ^[A ^[p to get ^[ (which is esc) use ctrl-v ctrl-[ now edit names :%!sh
in command mode in vi (or vim) just type !! at the second exclamation point you'll be a special ! prompt where you could type ip a | grep inet. I seem to recall that this worked before :r knew to do something other than read files. The reason this might be more useful is the second character doesn't need to be a ! it can be other "addresses". So for example you can type !} ip a | grep inet. That will replace the current line up until the next blank line with the output of your command since } means "the next blank line". If the second character is ! in means replace the current line.
this is amazing. thanks for sharing!!!
Impressive! One more tip is that instead of using lsblk -f and select the desired UUID, you can simply use blkid -s UUID -o value /dev/sda1 (change /dev/sda1 to your target device) to just print the UUID.
Nice! that saves time
awesome, I've never came across this feature thanks for sharing
that’s sick
This is pretty useful!
pretty neat, every so often I search up how to make it so you can freely move the cursor in a shell like zsh to, for instance, select and copy the text of a previous command, and I'm surprised that nothing ever shows up. this seems like one way to do it though
You could press prefix + [ in tmux to go into copy mode and move around with your vim keys
@@jackyzheng55 oh shit that's really cool, thanks
nice tip, thanks Jose :) if you want the ip of the default interface, this work as well: :r !ip r | grep default
Sorry, just realized how small the font is!! 😅😅 In vi command line mode :r !<cmd>
Not only that, your audio is terrible
Your audio was fine for me lol Thanks for sharing! I can already find a few uses for it in my workflow. Every day I learn something about vim. That’s part of the fun.
also you can use vim terminal ( :term ) then normal mode ( Ctrl + \ + n ) . this way u can yank anything from terminal
Amazing video brother. Truly appreciate this. A lot of good info.
Appreciate it!
