God’s Ownership and Our Responsibility in Giving In life, many worry about what others think or do, but what truly matters is aligning ourselves with God’s truth. The Bible reminds us of a fundamental truth: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). God owns the universe, and everything we have comes from Him, including silver and gold (Haggai 2:8). Money, cheques, and material possessions are human creations-they are not God’s measure of worth. When we talk about giving, it’s important to understand that giving to God extends beyond monetary contributions. True giving reflects the heart of serving others and advancing God’s kingdom. Giving Beyond Money God calls us to give in ways that build up communities and reflect His love. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40). This means building roads, schools, clinics, and sharing knowledge to uplift the community is as much an act of giving as placing money in a church offering. God desires obedience over material sacrifice. “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22). Giving is not about enriching individuals but about fulfilling His mission: to bring hope, healing, and justice to the world. Faithful Stewardship The church is indeed the house of God, but God does not ask us to give blindly or to enrich others while neglecting the poor. “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Giving must come from the heart and be directed toward glorifying God. Jesus Himself warned against misuse of resources in His house, saying, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers” (Matthew 21:13). Our giving should honor God’s purpose-not man’s selfish desires. A Call to Action Let us give in ways that reflect God’s love and wisdom. Whether it is through sharing our time, resources, or knowledge, our actions should glorify God and uplift the community. “Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:16). Remember, God looks at the heart behind the gift, not its material value. Let’s be faithful stewards and give in ways that honor Him and reflect His justice and mercy.
