John Legend is a tenor, his upper register gives that away. He has a raspy quality to his chest voice which gives the impression of “depth” but his voice isn’t that deep.

most people sing in medium range, it is mainstream, even some contraltos follow mainstream an sing in medium range, don't do that, dont be afraid to be different

Finally finding out that I'm a mezzo, since I can reach the lowest notes of the alto range and the lowest in the soprano range.

I am a Contralto. I already know I am. Here's my vocal range... My lowest note: G#3 My highest note: Bb4 Primo Passaggio: B4 Secondo Passaggio: F#4 That sure as hell ain't no alto, no mezzo, no soprano, and no mezzo-soprano. Let's just put it this way... My voice ALMOST as deep as Tracy Chapman, and very similar to Stevie Nicks. Ask me to sing anything by Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, or Carrie Underwood, and my vocal cords will hurt for two weeks. Tried that already and failed. Ask me to sing anything from Boyz II Men to Tracy Chapman to Cher and The Temptations, I'm smooth as butter with that, no strain, no pain at all, very comfortable range for me. It's hard to explain. You'd have to hear me.

Okay, if I’m not mistaken… Example 1 (1:30) was a spinto tenor. Example 2 (2:10) was a dramatic tenor. Example 3 (3:12) was a lyric tenor. Example 4 (3:56) was another dramatic tenor. No leggero tenors?? 🥺🥺

So glad to be in baritone range. Its true theres versatility but in higher songs i use falsetto.

So not a contralto? I was just out in this vocal type by my choir director. I know nothing about it and was hoping Lana del Ray was also in this range. Is it just because her range is wider than me and she’s able to hit higher notes?

I’m a high baritone, in terms of timbre at least, I’d say my natural range is between D2-D5, but if I’m properly warmed up, it’s G1-A5, and with some fry, I can go to C1, and at the very top for me is B5. But yeah, being a baritone is really fun, and for all the baritones out there, you’re awesome.

When you talk about Baritones and Baritones who can sing high and is famous, you've got to mention Axl Rose and Freddie Mercury. I mean, they are considered the greatest vocalists of all time.

Huh. I’ve always had a hard time singing high notes and was better at singing low notes (I sing with a lower voice for a woman) I don’t about my voice range cause I rarely ever sing now but it’s fascinating to learn about. I wonder if there’s a way to get that found out.

My vocal range is F2 to F#6 what's my voice type?

My range is D3 to C6, but my Prima Voce or where I found myself more confortable singing is F3 to B4, being G4 my switch to head voice. So...some people say I am a low mezzo-soprano (like Tony Braxton) and others just say I am an alto. I am so confused lol😂

I guess Beyonce is debatable and I'm not 100% sure if she is a mezzo nowadays (most likely a high one but again it's debatable) but at her debut she was most definitely a soprano. Not only that, but Christina Aguilera only became a mezzo recently despite being a soprano during her debut, in which it is a similar case to Beyonce. Miley Cyrus went through the same process, even though she was a mezzo for a longer portion of her own career than Aguilera and Beyonce were. Miley Cyrus wasn't a soprano for very long from what I know, only during her teenage years. I don't know enough about Rita Ora nor Toni Braxton to agree nor disagree. But in the cases of Adele and Lady Gaga, I think they were both likely always mezzo-sopranos from their debuts to now from what I know so far.

My vocal range is F2-G4 full voice, D5/D#5 is my maximum in falsetto. Am I a tenor or a baritone? I'm studying singing with a vocal coach for 14 months. My voice is breathy and sweet from F2 to C3, it becomes more powerful and fuller up to F3, from G#3 and A3 it becomes lighter and brighter, from E4/F4 it becomes more shrill. G4 is a very difficult note for me that I can only hit on the best days. My falsetto in G4 and G#4 is really weak, it gets stronger between A4 and A#4.

Ayra Starr & Tems. Makes their voice very unique & distinct when you hear it in an industry full of powerful & high octave voices. I think lower vocal tone is not appreciated a lot in women.
