How did you train them to walk next to the wheelchair? What age did they start at?
After hearing this i feel lucky. Went to 50y checkup. Doctor listened my heart. Said he heard a murmur and sent me to ultrasound the next week. Significant mitral regurgitation.
@@JamesParus wishing you the best luck with your followup!!!!! Heart issues can be scary, but you don’t have to go through it alone ! I hope you have a good support system to help you and a good health care team to get you buttoned back up ❤️🩹
I have mechanical aortic valve and the same sound I can hear all the time 😅♥️
My also ticking 😂
Beautifully stated.
Congratulations Erica for the advice and my respect for what you do, I have friends who also use the wheelchair and their experiences are incredible, I am a visually impaired person
What smartwatch is that?
I can't hear mine.
Great video Erica. I'll be having a mechanical pulmonary and tricuspid valve put in on October 28th of this year. I'm no stranger to open - heart surgery. I was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries where my pulmonary artery and aorta were developed in the opposite positions where I was getting un-oxygenated blood pumped into my body. I wouldn't survived long after birth so I had my first open-heart surgery at two months old. I've had three more open-heart surgeries since to replace my pulmonary and tricuspid valves that kept falling all before the age of 22. I'm having my fifth surgery to replace my narrowed pulmonary valve that got bacteria on it from a Staph infection of the blood I had in August, and my tricuspid valve which is quite narrowed. Erica if you see this I hope your doing well and are healthy. God bless you.
Thank you for sharing! I get my aortic valve replaced in a few months and have the option of biological or mechanical. Both have pros and cons. With mechanical we're very concerned about the ticking sound :)
Heh, it's actually pretty beautiful
If you have a service dog it is you board the plane that you have to fill up a paperwork saying you have a service dog. In the state Oklahoma.
Advocate for your first dog also
I see you wear your scar proudly! I only really notice mine ticking if it is quiet and I listen out for it.
Hey hun I have cerebral palsy and I use bold lead design wheelchair leash and attachment. It keeps the leash out of the wheels. It’s also made of leather and has a quick release buckle should you need that. They also sell a belt loop that you can use if you walk with your dog too. Bold lead design is the company name. Have a wonderful day chica
@@ALACGltd thank you! I have looked into their stuff before, I love it! Right now we are using a handsfree leash from Amazon
@@EricaDiebold that’s awesome I’m glad you found a solution!
I love that you have all of those games to get food in your background. Thank you for your video
I’m so glad you touched on the ID card part. I have cerebral palsy and my disability is pretty visible but have been asked to provide one and I was confused by it at first
Hey there hun! For steep ramps I go up backward to avoid tipping plus I feel a lot stronger pulling than pushing. Have a wonderful day. Thanks for the video !
@@ALACGltd thanks for the tip!
I have a surgery of avr on 12th sep i am very much nervous life after this . This sound will let me sleep or not working issues
Thanks for this video. I am a autistic service dog handler and I personally only in things like restraunts or low crowded where it might be easyier just to point, is when i have a tag on
In Belgium where I live, only dogs trained bij certified trainers are allowed to be service dogs and we need the have a penning, the decree and an id on us all the time or we can be denied access.
We are in our 3th week of training and I got the “oh I did not see there is a dog” today. First I tought she is huge how could you not see her. But now I feel proud of her.😊
Here's a list for anyone who can't hear/don't wanna watch the full video/etc! 1. "Four on the floor" - Unless necessary for carrying for certain alerts or other things, the dog should stay on the ground unless otherwise needed for tasks and such. 2. "Always be prepared" - While SD's may be well trained and never have accidents something could go wrong, keep a bag of things that may be needed ((Ex: wipes, napkins, poop bags, sanitizer, etc)). 3. "People shouldn't SEE your dog" - Your SD should be trained well enough that they do not cause issues or draw attention. They should be able to stay discreetly out of the way while still being able to help the handler. 4. "Be polite but firm" - There is always a chance of being stopped with your SD, firmly tell the person that they cannot distract your dog/your disability isn't their business/whatever else but remain polite while doing so. 5. "Do not show an ID Card" - In the U.S. there is no identification form/card/etc required for your service dog. If someone asks for such things politely tell them that those are not legally required and it is illegal to ask for one. Thanks for reading, have a great day/night everyone and blessed be!! <3
@@xXPebbledreamXx thank you so much! That’s really helpful to have 😊 I appreciate your time!
@@EricaDiebold I'm so glad this was helpful!!
TBI awareness is a brighter green. Which is my favorite color. Right now I have a grey harness but it matches the color of my SD. The style of it works better for me. I can’t find the style of harness I need in the green color I want. I’ll probably have to make it or reach out to maybe an Etsy store to help. My SD is a blue and white staffy and my disability isn’t readily apparent. I have a psychiatric service dog patch and please don’t touch I’m working patch. Just sharing, Hello everyone 💚
Hello Erica! Did you request this video, or how did it come to be recorded? My husband is having OHS in two weeks. Our son has has OHS since he was a baby, due to another genetic condition. I'm glad you're doing well and sharing your experiences! Take care!!!
@@Adlesirg I briefly mentioned to my surgeon that it would be nice to have, so he had one of his nurses taking lots of videos for me during my surgery! It was pretty much a complete surprise from a wonderful surgeon team
@@Adlesirg I wish your husband the best luck and recovery from his surgery! ❤️🩹
I appreciate your quick response and your wonderful and kind wishes! Yes, husband is having aortic root and aortic valve replacement, same material, on-x. He's having a bypass and most likely a pacemaker implanted. This all came unexpected a month ago. He did have a heart attack 11 years ago. Our 17 y/o son was born with Tetralogy of Fallot. Parts of his heart were repaired at 10 weeks old via OHS. Then 2 more heart procedures and another open heart surgery again right on his 6th birthday to place a biological pulmonary valve. This one will need to be replaced next year. Next week, he's having his appointment, and we'll find out more details, if it'll be OHS again, or via a less invasive surgery, mechanical or biological, again. But he also has been presenting aortic root dilation and aortic valve regurgitation, so we know that someday, he'll also need this to be mechanically replaced. Apparently, he was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, which affected his heart in many ways, and also inherited these two aortic anomalies from his father. It's not an easy path, but we must remember that modern medicine and science are on our side, right! We have soooo much to be grateful for!❤️🩹 I just showed my son one of your videos, and of course, the first thing he noticed and commented on is how beautiful you are. And I said, "Yes, beautiful, strong, resilient and smart." He also appreciated the fact that you take time to educate people. It's so important and you're doing an amazing job! Thank you again!
@@EricaDiebold Can we see other videos of your heart if you have any you haven't posted yet?

I am about to have this same surgery done. It's nice to see I'm not alone. I'm 38 and have been told for many years that there was nothing wrong with me. Just anxiety. To hear that you have been through the same thing is uplifting.

Honey you're pragmatism is refreshing an pardon the phrasing but its a fresh bit of air. I'm disabled and learning to navigate Karen's and Kevin's, and I'll get some of the most head-slapping reasons for why I can't be disabled, like being to young! I've also shown my handicap placard and was "/oved very hard" while being handcufed by the "very kind police" I think y'all can read between the lines. I was given false charges but I won. None of the officers were held to account for "loving me so much 💋" I've been ticketed and arrested and gone to county because of all their loving and other situations related to my "looks". The police truly are the best example of humanity. And they are so much higher than excrement.
Hi Erica. Sorry to hear your ticking sound is annoying to you. I'm in the minority I imagine, but would love hearing your heart valve ticking all the time. So glad the operation has been successful for you!
i can't understand why USA doesn't just bring in an official registration system for service dogs. I have a SD in Queensland Australia and we have registration and an official SD card with the SD photo and handlers photo. This stops the fake sites making money, removes the fake SD from shopping centres etc and makes it so easy tp prove you have a valid SD. Just show the card and no restaurant or business can refuse entry.
I have a dog with special needs. What color should she wear
The tiching inside my ears sometimes drives me crazy.... When I had my surgery back in 2021 I could hear it through my ears but after somes months it silented. Now after three years I started hearing it againy exams are fine but my valve started ticking very loud again.I hope it will be silent again!
My husband just got an ascending aorta aneurysm repaired and a mechanical valve replacement. Yes, his valve is loud, but for us is a constant remainder of a second chance, and we learn to time his heart beat this way since he also have a electric defect on his heart. We doing our best with this new opportunity and yes,,, I'm married to Iron man now ❤❤❤❤. Thank God for his life and all the great doctors we have encountered.
I hope you are doing okay?? No new videos. Really hope you are doing well.
You are one of the first person who I’ve searched actually addressed the throat and ears sound. I thought it was just me!
It’s so nice to have a community to feel less alone! I thought I was alone also, but thankfully I have met so many people with similar experiences now!
I go in for left mitral valve replacement surgery tomorrow. I can hardly wait to do party tricks: listen to me tick! Thanks for the info!
You're nice and friendly! However, if a Dr wont see me with my dog because of fear or allergies, I'll seek out a new Dr. That's just my prerogative. I've learned the hard way that if my dog isn't welcome, it's generally not a safe situation for me to put myself in, regardless of the situation. I battle PTSD/Panic Disorder. I'm at the mercy of my Panic Attacks, which may come at any time for any or no reason. Without my dog, I'm helpless and at the mercy of the attack. So if my dog isn't welcome, I won't show up!
Good to see a pittie service dog when all I see is hate for the breed in the service dog community. He so calm and attentive 💕
Thanku for sharing… I had the exact surgery two years ago…Some gallstones leaked into my bile and caused my blood to be septic. The infection attached to my mitral valve… I had to have surgery the next day… My surgeon offered two choices for my open heart surgery… to go in from the middle of my chest or under my arm (which is really under my right breast)… I woke up to the ticking it drove me bananas… the first two times I couldn’t hear I freaked out thinking I was dead… until I realized I was actually “thinking” Lolol I still hear it but it does fade in and out of my consciousness…My four year old granddaughter likes to listen to different parts of my body to hear it tick…. Lololol…. It took me until a couple of months ago to finally realize the ways it was affecting me emotionally and mentally… and what my triggers were… after recognizing those last emotional I was able to heal from the trauma it caused… But what a ride…. One thing I’m grateful s technology it allows us to hear from and to connect to others like us that we would’ve never had a chance to hear from and to know we’re not alone…
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I love reading comments like yours, makes me feel less alone too!!
I just had this surgery on March 7th of this year and yes the ticking sound drives me crazy.
