    Hello Zach I am new to Cyclekart culture and I’m building my first machine this summer. I like what you said about not taking the craftsmanship park too far. My dad was a builder of antique automobiles. That won many awards, and I know how the hours can get eaten up trying to make everything just perfect. better I think just to enjoy the process without getting too anal about it.

    • @TheJunkHunter
      @TheJunkHunter 2 місяці тому

      Some people have the time and the skill to execute at a very high level, some people get frustrated trying to make it perfect and give up. I say error on the side of fun cause these babies are meant to be driven more then anything else.

    • @dandeangeli9860

      Hello Zach. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. Since my dad passed, I have discovered a strange movement in the world of antique cars. Everyone from my neighbor to Jerry Seinfeld keeps antique cars in their original shape, or just barely mechanically functioning with a view towards use rather than show perfection I think that’s a good trend. All the best with you and your projects. Thank you again Dan.

    Never built any of these, but I always thought that the actual gn chain drive but with maybe only 2 gears instead of 4 would increase speed alot on a cyclecar and you don't requite a clutch. The only problem is how small and light cyclecars are for 2 chains and a separate transfer axel and everything else. One day when I have the time and space I want to attempt it.

    Your rear suspension is far more engineered and sophisticated than I first imagined, I expect it is a huge improvement over the standard, rigid rear axle CKs. Is your 1" square tube frame aluminum or steel?

      @TheJunkHunter 5 місяців тому

      Watched your video, good job on the run. I imagine there will be a separate category for electric cars cause it’s not really in the spirit of the the traditional cycle kart. The idea is to have a real pre-war inspiration car that your kart is modeled after and a 6.5hp engine.

  • @frederickwoods5943
    @frederickwoods5943 5 місяців тому

    Just discovered this channel and I like your choices for parts on the clone engine, having built a few for mini-bikes. Mid-range cam and 22-pound springs will help the engine live and still make adequate power to push that cycle car to 60mph easily unless it weighs 400-500 pounds. Good luck 😊

  • @TheJunkHunter
    @TheJunkHunter 5 місяців тому

    It don’t seem like Mitch but with the tall wheels that we run these cycle karts you run out of power quickly and getting past 55mph takes a lot more power and that’s asking a lot from thes little engines😅

    • @DaHobbyGoblin
      @DaHobbyGoblin 5 місяців тому

      You run it out quick because it eats any real torque you can make, but if you got the space that's how you get the speed, it just takes some time. Perhaps play around with gear ratios too, not just power output? The speeds we normally see out karts is rarely top for the engine, it's more the efficient peak speeds for the engine and gearing. A Bugatti Veyron is slower than a Mclaren F1 in a short distance despite the ~1000hp difference, but gets reeled in on the big end.

    • @TheJunkHunter
      @TheJunkHunter 5 місяців тому

    Dead Pedal concept is bunk. If you're wearing your belts properly tight, you won't be able to lean. If you're not wearing belts, you don't have proper control of the wheel to let you go as fast as the tyres will.

    • @TheJunkHunter
      @TheJunkHunter 6 місяців тому

      Cycle karts don’t use belt so yes dead pedals make a big difference. It’s not a car it’s a kart

    I’m In Minnesota and never used them, but I do drain the lines. I did use one last night because our one faucet that can be used in the winter, froze up. I first used some water pipe heat cable around the faucet. That worked, sub zero and it unfroze. We’re making ice ponds to collect ice slabs for ice sculptures.

    I just happened to catch your post and found it fun. A bit of rattle can love and you will have a really cool CT 90. Maybe add a sissy bar back from an old Stingray bicycle to give the CT an old school chopper look. I believe you live on the westside of the Cascades and judging by how you are bundled up, I think I would consider a bit of insulation for the shop as a comforting project :) .

    • @TheJunkHunter
      @TheJunkHunter 8 місяців тому

      I am just outside of Seattle. But I grew up in Minnesota, it’s only cold out in the shop a few weeks out of the year so it’s just easier to layer up my body then it is the shop!

    • @BaronVonEvil1
      @BaronVonEvil1 8 місяців тому

      I grew up just outside of San Diego, CA so if I layer up up, I would look like the Sta-Puff Marshmellow man and would still be cold.... Insulation is my friend in my shop! Right now here at home on the Eastside, its about 4 degrees F, which is not saying much compared to Minnesota... @@TheJunkHunter

    I would suggest you do the experiment again with the cover/uncovered variable reversed, my money is on the faucets having more/less heat conducted from you homes pipes.

      Nope, too cold.

    • @TheJunkHunter
      @TheJunkHunter 8 місяців тому

      Even if I did, which I might, it would make much difference because the comparison between ambient temperature and the temp of the covered pipe still shows it’s not doing anything. The uncovered faucet was acting as a control.

      Modern faucets have a "Frost Proof" valve seat that is recessed into the wall many inches, the FP faucet also drains from the valve seat to prevent freezing damage. I wrap rags around the faucets and then install the faucet insulator, the time honored belt and suspended approach. A small effort to not to have to install a new valve or experience the joy and considerable expense of cold fractured plumbing.
