My father received this Smith Corona Clipper typewriter for his graduation from College from his parents in 1946. I used it to type my papers while in college in the 1960s-early 70s. I still have it and it works beautifully. I consider it a treasure.

the middle setting is for stencilling and the imprinted paper can form a negative then be copied by another machine. its like a photocopier but in the 1950s

These were still surprisingly good machines despite the plasticky bodies, but this was close to end times for the manual typebar typewriter.

Hi I’ve been having problems trying to make my bulbs brighter? I’m new and have contacted support for help and have got nowhere. My problem is my bulbs are very dim and I don’t know why or how to make the brighter. Any suggestions?

I came across one of these. Truly a piece of junk design from the inner mechanics to the carriage truck assembly. If this wasn’t made 100 years ago it wouldn’t be remarkable.

I have a 1925, and I didn't know about the paper supports!

I foound a typewriter that looks like this is my gramma's basement. The keys were stiff but wiggling them enough (it took 2 days) fixed it. We bought a new spool of ink and now it works perfectly.

Mine kept sliding all the way over to the left very hard in the same place yours just starts to stop with a "zip" sound. I had to remove the 4 screws that held the linear bearing in, and then file down and clean the burrs off the rack and pinion gear and tooth rod. But then I had a bad time trying to get the paper tensioner springs back in order. But overall, it works flawlessly now.

I have the same one, but the circle in the upper right corner is hard for me to press in.Could you teach me

PS--get some of that goopy, rubbery woven shelf paper at the store, cut to fit the footprint of your typewriter or case. It'll easily fold up in the case for storage or travel and will keep the machine from walking across the table like this...

Beautiful machine! I know so many of the newbies want machines in bright colors, etc. What they of course don't realize is that, if they truly get serious about typing for extended periods, those same colors can cause eyestrain. There's a reason for all those crinkle finishes and matte, muted tones like this typewriter. You know, decades ago, my first three typewriters, and the Royal 440 I learned on in junior high, didn't have the 1/! key on them. So many now are horrified if their finds are missing it! These S-C portables were such quality machines...

In the seventies as a college student I bicycle toured over many states, tent camping and having a Baby just like this one strapped to a pannier, writing each night. You know, these things back then were so cheap they were almost considered disposable. I'm astounded at what they can bring these days. Amazing little machine and so durable for hundreds-plus miles on a bicycle!

I have the Underwood variant, two-tone gray and white frame. Fine little machine, stark but I don't mind that on this type. Love the flat profile. My carriage lock is the opposite--doesn't like to release all the way. I haven't taken it apart yet to adjust.
